NEWSLETTER / CIRCULAR INFORMATIVA July 14; 2014 By this way receive a cordial greeting on behalf of the NORCECA as well as the Control Committee, this time we take this opportunity to notify to the participating teams the following recommendations of behavior and respect for the competition. Sirva la presente para enviar un cordial saludo de la NORCECA y del Comité de Control del Campeonato Continental NORCECA U19, en esta ocasión para hacer de su conocimiento las siguientes recomendaciones de comportamiento y respeto durante la competencia.

This Control Committee has received reports of the Local Organizing Committee and the host hotel for the bad behavior of three delegations participating in this competition, unpleasant notifications behavior Hotel including complaints from other guests, it is important to mention that we have identified the delegations to which they draw attention directly because of bad behavior this backsliding the Control Committee and the Hotel Management will take drastic measures. Este Comité de Control ha recibido notificaciones tanto del Comité Organizador Local como del Hotel Sede sobre el mal comportamiento de tres delegaciones participantes en la competencia, notificaciones desagradables de comportamiento en el Hotel incluyendo quejas de otros huéspedes, es importante mencionar que tenemos identificadas a las delegaciones a las cuales se les llamara la atención en forma directa ya que de reincidir en este mal comportamiento este Comité de Control y la Gerencia del Hotel tomaremos medidas drásticas.

Mexico Serves up Defeat of Barbados TULSA, USA (July 14, 2014) – Mexico defeated Barbados, 25‐17, 25‐16, 25‐14 on Monday to open the 2014 NORECA Boys’ Under‐19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Mexico (1‐0) will play Guatemala at 4 p.m. CT in Pool B on Tuesday while Barbados 0‐1 will face Cuba at 2 p.m. Mexico’s strong serving kept Barbados off balance as the North Americans led in aces 11‐4. Mexico also led in kills (33‐27), blocks (6‐3) and aces (11‐14) and scored 25 points on Barbados’ errors while committing 13. Mexico’s Bruno Cruz led all scorers on Monday with 13 points on eight kills, one block and a match‐high four aces. Ridl Garay added eight points and Alberto Baltazar totaled seven. Every player on Mexico’s team scored at least one point except libero Ricardo Marquez, who was credited with a match‐high 13 digs. Andriy Stapleton paced Barbados with 11 points on a match‐high nine attacks, one block and one ace. Carlos Cyrus of Barbados added nine points on eight kills and one block. Cuba took advantage of 26 Guatemala errors while committing 15. Cuba’s Miguel Gutierrez led all scorers with 21 points on a match‐high 14 kills, two blocks and a match‐ high five aces. Ismel Palayo added 11 points on seven attacks, three blocks and one ace. Wagner Chacon and Erik Flores each scored seven points for Guatemala. Chacon scored on five kills, one block and one ace. Team USA Opens with Win over Nicaragua TULSA, USA (July 14, 2014) – After a slow start, the United States pulled together to defeat Nicaragua, 25‐13, 25‐11, 25‐13 on Monday in a Pool A match on the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Team USA (1‐0) will have Tuesday off while Nicaragua (0‐1) will play Puerto Rico at 4 p.m. CT. The U.S. Boys’ will play Puerto Rico on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tough serving proved to be key to the U.S. victory as it led in aces, 18‐1. The U.S. Boys’ also led in kills (28‐12) and blocks (10‐2). Nicaragua scored on 22 U.S. errors while committing 18. Nicaragua led 11‐8 in the first set but it served into the net and Josh Tuaniga got the United States’ first ace with his first serve. He served for two more points to put the U.S. ahead 14‐11. Later, Jordan Ewert would serve for seven straight points, including three aces, to put the U.S. ahead for good. The U.S. did not struggle after that. Every player on the U.S. team started a set and every player scored except for libero Joe Worsley, who was credited with six digs and nine excellent receptions. U.S. setter Josh Tuaniga led all scorers with nine points on two kills, one block and a match‐high six aces. Middle blocker Scott Stadick added eight points on six kills and two blocks. Then we settled down as a team. We grew with each other and we broke that lead. We got a few runs. Every match we play, the team is learning something. Sometimes it’s as simple as, don’t switch and get called out of rotation so much.
