Haití sorprendió a Curazao y aseguró bronce La Habana, Cuba, 17 de mayo 2014- EL joven equipo de Haití aseguró la medalla de bronce al derrotar a Curazao 3-2 en la última fecha del Torneo Clasificatorio Femenino Mundial de NORCECA, grupo Q, con sede en la Ciudad Deportiva. Las haitianas comenzaron impetuosas y dominaron los dos primeros sets con idénticos marcadores de 25-22, pero a partir del tercero bajaron el nivel de juego y sus rivales empataron al ganar 19-25 y 18-25 como se esperaba de las favoritas. No obstante, lo mejor aconteció en el tie-break cuando el equipo de Haití defendió como nunca en su historia para sellar Eel triunfo con un 15-11 casi dos horas después de actividad. Por las ganadoras encabezaron la ofensiva Solaida Pierre y Carline Pierre, ambas con 14 puntos, más 13 que tributó Esther Joachin. Precisamente Carline, la capitana, calificó de "gran triunfo porque jugamos colectivamente". La líder de Curazao, Christine Anthony, volvió a sobresalir y resultó la máxima anotadora del disputado choque al sumar 28, pero no mostró alegría "pues luchamos por esa medalla, pero lastimosamente en el quinto set no pudimos contar con dos de nuestras regulares". El entrenador de Haití, Frederic Francois, manifestó sentir un orgullo muy grande por sus muchachas. "Hoy jugaron relajadas y olvidaron la presión de ayer porque se convencieron que con unidad y su defensa podían llegar al podio". Haiti surprised astonishing Curacao to secure bronze medal HAVANA, Cuba, May 17, 2014 – The young Haitian team secured the bronze medal by beating Curacao 3-2 on the closing day of the FIVB Women’s World Championship NORCECA Pool Q at Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum on Saturday. The Haitians started to play impetuously and dominated the first two sets with identical scorers of 25-22. However from the third set they decreased their game level and their rival were able to tie by winning 19-25 and 18-25 as it was expected from the favorite team. However, the greatest part of the match took place in the tie-break when the Haitian team defended best than ever to stop the impetus of their opponents and secured the victory 15-11 after almost two-match hours. On the winning side, the attack was led by Solaida Pierre and Carline Pierre, both with 14 tallies and Esther Joachin who contributed to the victory with 13. Precisely, Carline, the captain, considered it as “a great triumph for having played as a team” The Curacao´s captain, Christine Anthony, shined again and was the top scorer of this close match with 28 points. However, she did not look happily “as we fought for that medal, but sadly in the fifth set we were not able to count on two of our starting players”. The medalist coach, Frederic Francois stated he felt a great proud for his girls. “Today they played relaxed and forgot about the pressure in the previous match as they convinced themselves that with unity and defense they could reach the podium”. Henry Delfina, Curacao´s coach, said: “My players relied too heavily as after coming from behind they did not know to grow. Although I must admit the Haitian defense was a determining factor in their victory and they also fought bravely”.

Las anfitrionas nunca se confiaron y desde el pitazo inicial siempre estuvieron delante del marcador para certificar el triunfo con parciales de 25-18, 25-20 y 2513 para la alegría de la afición que fue a alentar a la nueva generación de Morenas del Caribe. Lideraron la ofensiva la escolar de 14 años de edad, Melissa Vargas, y la veinteañera Jennifer Álvarez, únicas con doble dígitos, en tanto por las rivales la que más anotó, Darlene Ramdin, solo acumuló 8 unidades. Juan Carlos Gala, entrenador de las de casa, manifestó que "ellas hicieron algunos cambios tácticos, las mismas jugadoras cambiaron de posición para tratar de neutralizarnos, pero no pudieron, Melissa estuvo hoy muy certera en el saque y Alena mantuvo su efectividad; las muchachas cumplieron, ya estamos en Italia". Kelly-Anne Billingy, capitana trinitaria, reconoció sentirse decepcionada porque "hubiéramos podido jugar mejor en este segundo choque, no fue posible, ahora debemos concentrarnos y pensar que todavía tenemos una oportunidad de ir al mundial".

Cuba swept the Trinidadians away and qualified for Italy HAVANA, Cuba, May 17, 2014- Cubans swept the Trinidad and Tobago´s team away by beating them for second time in a row in straight sets to win the unique spot of Pool Q in the NORCECA Women’s World Championship Volleyball Qualification Tournament Q at Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum on Saturday. The local players never relied on the previous win and from the initial whistle they were always ahead to secure the triumph with scorers of 25-18, 25-20, 25-13 for the spectators´ joy who came to cheer up the new generation of the “Morenas del Caribe”. The attack was led by the 14 year-old player, Melissa Vargas and Jennifer Álvarez, the unique players with double-digit scorers. Meanwhile, on the rival side, Darlene Ramdin was the top scorer, only 8 tallies. Juan Carlos Gala, the home team´s coach, stated “they made some tactical changes. For instance, the players themselves changed their position to try to neutralize us, but they could not get it. Melissa was accurate at the service and Alena kept her effectiveness. In general, the girls fulfilled and we are already in Italy”. The Cuban captain, Rosanna Giel, expressed the joy of the entire team “because we worked hard to attain the objective of winning without losing any set and so it was done.
