Costa Rica se impuso 3‐0 (25‐19, 25‐17, 25‐12) a Nicaragua y jugará mañana por el quinto lugar del Campeonato Continental NORCECA U18 femenino, ante el ganador del juego entre Honduras y Barbados. Mary Alfaro con 13 y Nicole Mata con 10, fueron las mejores anotadoras de Costa Rica, por Nicaragua la capitana María Belén Arcia quedó con nueve. Alfaro logró nueve aces, de los 11 de su equipo, que fue superior en ataque (30‐16) y en saques (11‐5), pero quedaron atrás en bloqueo (5‐6), aprovechando los 29 puntos por errores de su oponente por 21 de ellas cometidos. Mary Alfaro, jugadora de Costa Rica: “Nos hemos esforzado desde hace varios meses para llegar aquí, a este objetivo. Estuvimos en un grupo muy fuerte y hasta ahora pudimos hacer nuestro tipo de juego y lo aprovechamos. Siento que estábamos muy segura de nosotras mismas, teníamos mucha confianza, nos unimos mucho. “Fue una gran experiencia jugar ante equipos como Cuba, Dominicana, Canadá, porque nos enseña, a pesar de no ganar los partidos, nos enseñaron para un futuro, no sólo cosas dentro de la cancha, sino también fuera, que eso lo llevamos a nuestro país y poder compartir con las demás jugadoras”. “Vamos por el quinto lugar ante Honduras o Barbados, ambos son grandes rivales, pero iremos con la misma mentalidad, la misma confianza”. Maria Belén Arcia, capitana de Nicaragua: “Creo que nos afectó bastante el recibo, no éramos efectivas en el ataque, como solemos ser. Nos confiamos un poco, después de hacer un buen juego ayer, hoy venimos confiadas y también estábamos nerviosas. “El servicio de ellas nos hizo mucho daño. Rocío Durón con 14 y Andrea Aceituno con 12, fueron las mejores anotadoras de Costa Rica, por Barbados, Tennelie Chapman quedó con 12. Aceituno logró 8 “ace”, mientras Isabella Rosa aportó seis por las locales. Honduras hizo la diferencia con el servicio (18‐4) y en ataque (23‐20), pero fueron superadas en bloqueo (3‐7) además que Barbados cometió 31 errores no forzados, por 15 de las hondureñas. Nathaly Pérez, capitana de Honduras: “Yo les hablo a mis compañeras, les digo que no tenemos que entrar a la cancha con temor, aunque el otro equipo sea superior, que tenemos que defender los colores de nuestro país, estamos en nuestra cancha, con nuestro público”. “Llevamos más de un año entrenando, tenemos que jugar con confianza por lo que hemos trabajado. A pesar de mi lesión no he podido jugar, pero siempre estoy con ellas animándolas y a total disposición para cualquier consejo”. Las canadienses se recuperaron en el cuarto set de una desventaja de 4 puntos para empatar el juego a dos set por bando, y en el quinto también vinieron de atrás al ir perdiendo 10‐14, para ganar 16‐14 y avanzar a su primer final en esta categoría, asegurando medalla de plata, superando la de bronce lograda hace 20 años. El equipo de Estados Unidos no dio lugar a que Dominicana mostrara lo mejor de su juego, tomando ventaja desde el primer set, la que no pudo remontar el equipo caribeño que fue superado en ataque 38‐16, bloqueo 12‐5 y servicio 4‐0, y cometió 21 errores no forzados, por 25 de las estadounidenses.
