Nicaragua en séptimo lugar en el Sub 18 al vencer a Barbados Tegucigalpa, Honduras. 01 de septiembre 2018. Nicaragua se quedó con el séptimo lugar del Campeonato Continental NORCECA U18 femenino al vencer 3‐0 (25‐18, 25‐21, 25‐14) a Barbados. Nicaragua dominó en ataque 29‐19, en bloqueo 4‐3 y en servicio 15‐6, con Masiel Brenes anotando 14 puntos y 12 de María Belén Arcia. Teinneille Chapman logró 10 por Barbados, que cometió 27 errores no forzados, por 25 de sus oponentes. La capitana de Nicaragua, María Belén Arcia, manifestó que “nunca había tenido la oportunidad de ser titular, menos capitana, en un torneo de esta magnitud. Es una responsabilidad bastante grande, me gustó tener la experiencia de jugar ante grandes equipos como Estados Unidos, Dominicana, países que son potencia en el voleibol”. “Aprendemos bastante no solo del juego, sino fuera de la cancha, la disciplina que hay que tener, los entrenamientos, son torneos en los que la condición física es súper importante, y para todo eso es la disciplina lo que hace la diferencia”. Claudia Noguera, entrenadora de Nicaragua: “Este fue un torneo muy fuerte, equipos que ya llevan años desarrollándose en estas categorías como Estados Unidos, Dominicana, Cuba… nosotros venimos a participar y tratar de obtener un mejor lugar en el ranking”. “Fue un gran esfuerzo el que hicieron las chicas, se llevan una bonita experiencia y un compromiso de cada una de seguir mejorando para el desarrollo del voleibol en Nicaragua”.

Nicaragua took seventh place in the NORCECA U18 Women's Continental Championship by winning 3‐0 (25‐18, 25‐21, 25‐14) to Barbados. Nicaragua dominated in attack 29‐19, blocking 4‐3 and serving 15‐6, with Masiel Brenes scoring 14 points and 12 of María Belén Arcia. Costa Rica se impuso 3‐0 (25‐20, 25‐17, 25‐16) a Honduras para quedarse con el quinto lugar del Campeonato Continental NORCECA U18 femenino. A pesar de la oposición de las locales en el inicio de los set, Costa Rica logró mantener la concentración e imponerse con una ofensiva variada con Nicole Mata anotando 9 puntos, Lakysha Thompson y Ana Rojas quedaron con ocho. En tanto, Rocío Durón anotó 10 por Honduras y Andrea Aceituno y Dazly Durán quedaron con 8. Costa Rica estuvo al frente en ataque (33‐25), en bloqueo (8‐4 ) y 3‐2 en servicio, con 31 errores no forzados de Honduras por 22 de las costarricense. Pamela Padilla, capitana de Costa Rica: “Nos sentimos muy contentas por ganar este partido y quedarnos con el quinto lugar. Estamos muy satisfechas porque sabíamos que podíamos sacar el resultado. Veníamos con la garra y con las ganas de ganar, porque el año pasado en el Centroamericano Honduras nos superó”. “Este torneo nos deja muchas experiencias, jugar contra equipos de más nivel nos hace crecer como jugadoras”. Sandra Umaña, entrenadora de Costa Rica: “Creo que veníamos a esto, ya en esta etapa, con el nivel de Centroamérica teníamos que trabajar fuerte, jugarle a un gran rival como fue Honduras, en su casa, muy ordenado. Hoy las niñas se concentraron, jugamos a no cometer errores no forzados y eso nos ayudó a llevarnos la victoria”. Osiel Vásquez, entrenador cubano de Honduras: “El torneo ha sido muy bueno para Honduras, para la Federación en la parte organizativa y para el equipo fue un buen torneo, hasta hoy, que fue uno de los peores juegos que tuvimos. Ganamos tres partidos y perdimos tres, trabajamos para un 50 por ciento, pero creo que en este juego pudimos hacer más, incluso pensamos en cinco set, porque podía ser para cualquiera de los dos”.

Cuba se levantó al perder el primer set ante República Dominicana para imponerse 3‐1 (19‐25, 25‐20, 28‐26, 25‐16) y quedarse con el tercer lugar del Campeonato Continental NORCECA U18 femenino. Thainalien Castillo guió al equipo cubano a la remontada con 21 puntos, de ellos 16 de ataque y tres en saque, y se sumó Dezirett Madan con 12 y 11 de la capitana Thalia Moreno. Por las Dominicanas, Flormarie Heredia anotó 17 puntos y 10 de Esthefany Rabit. Fue un partido muy igualado, con Cuba dominando el ataque 44‐38 y el servicio 9‐7, mientras Dominicana tomó ventaja en bloqueo 12‐10, sin embargo cometieron 34 errores no forzados, por 30 de las cubanas que logran su primera medalla en esta categoría. Thalia Moreno, capitana de Cuba: “ Estábamos muy afectadas después de perder el primer set, porque pensábamos que lo habíamos perdido todo, pero supimos reaccionar. En el segundo set, cuando empezamos desde abajo a levantarnos, nos dimos cuenta que podíamos ganarlo”. “Nos llevamos mucha experiencia de este torneo, sobre todo el no subestimar a nuestros contrarios. A Canadá le ganamos en la fase de grupos en tres set y pensamos que sería el mismo equipo y no fue así, nos confiamos. Teníamos el público apoyándonos y eso nos motivó bastante, a pesar de no estar jugando en Cuba nos sentimos en casa”. Jaime Echevarri, entrenador de Cuba: “Trabajamos sobre las situaciones del juego de ayer, los errores que se cometieron, analizamos bien al contrario, ya que era un rival distinto al que enfrentamos en la primera fase y las muchachas cumplieron a la confianza que les mantuvimos siempre”. “Algunas jugadoras ayer sintieron que ya no les teníamos confianza, pero les hablamos y les dijimos que confiamos plenamente en ellas y que hoy íbamos con todo a ganar”. Después el saque nos dificultó el trabajo, tuvimos algunas posibilidades en el tercer set, pero este juego es matar y morir y nosotros no supimos terminar ahí”. 23) to Canada, reaching eight titles in the history of this category and both qualified for the U18 World Cup in Egypt. Jessica Mruzik was awarded as the Most Valuable Player after United States beat Canada 3‐0 (25‐13, 25‐12, 25‐23) to win their eighth Women’s NORCECA U18 Championship and both teams qualifying to the 2019 FIVB World Championship U18. During the awarding ceremony chaired by NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, the United States was crowned with unbeaten record and players were honored with individual awards. Jessica Mruzik besides being the Most Valuable Player of the tournament was also the Best Wing Spiker and Allison Jacobs was the second best Wing Spiker. From USA, Emily Londot receive the award as Best Opposite Player, Hattie Monson was the Best Digger and Best Receiver and Orr Kennedi the Best Setter. Canadian Katerina Geordiadis was awarded as the Best Libero and cuban Thainalien Castillo as Best Scorer and Best Server.
