USA, Dominican Republic Join Mexico and Canada in NORCECA Men’s Championship Semis Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA (September 29, 2017) – The United States and Dominican Republic/Trinidad & Tobago won their NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship quarterfinal matches to join Mexico and Canada in Saturday’s semifinal round. The top three teams in the 10-team field earn berths into the World Championship, while the top two teams in a second NORCECA qualifier held later this fall round out NORCECA’s five vacancies into the world event. Match #15: Dominican Republic 3, Trinidad & Tobago 0 Dominican Republic advanced to the semifinals of the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Friday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Dominican Republic opposite Pedro Garcia led all scorers with 18 points on a match-high 17 attacks and one block. Middle blocker Jose Caceres added 12 points, including three blocks. Middle blocker Marc Honore led Trinidad & Tobago with nine points on six spikes and three blocks. Dominican Republic led in spikes (44-34), blocks (6-5) and aces (4-0). Match #16: United States 3, Costa Rica 0 The United States overwhelmed Costa Rica 25-11, 25-7, 25-8 on Friday in the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship quarterfinals at the U.S. Olympic Team in Colorado Springs, Colorado. American Aaron Russell scored a match-high 12 points, while Ben Patch scored 11 points. Thomas Jaeschke chipped in 10 points. Costa Rica was led by Alberto Blanco’s six points. Team USA held a 10-0 ace advantage and a 9-1 block margin. Martinique swept St. Vincent & the Grenadines on Thursday to conclude Pool C. Martinique was led by outside hitter Joann Breleur’s 17 points, which included eight aces. Outside hitter Rodrigue Larcher chipped in 11 points in the victory Asmond Franklyn sparked St. Vincent & the Grenadines with 14 points. Martinique held a 9-1 advantage in aces to keep St. Vincent & the Grenadines out of system. Martinique also held a 5-3 block margin and 38-28 edge in kills. Match #14: Guatemala 3, St. Lucia 0 Guatemala blanked St. Lucia 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 on Friday during the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship Classification 5-10 round in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In the process, Guatemala won its first match of the tournament. Guatemala was led by Andy Leonardo Blanco’s 18 points and Wagner Chacon contributed another 11 points. Guatemala tallied a 9-1 block advantage along with a 5-2 ace margin.
