Die Artrocker veröffentlichen mit Different Stories ihr erstes Akustik-Album und geben damit ihren schon jetzt beeindruckenden Songs einen ganz neue Prägung.

Und das schreibt die Band: Anubis‘ music has always been a pretty heavy and intense thing, so we‘ve had a bit of fun with rearranging some of the favourites from our past and approaching them in a completely different way.

We‘ve put our electric guitars (except one), synths and mellotrons in the cupboard and done this one as an acoustic record.

It‘s fascinating to hear these songs in a completely different way. We‘ve also recorded a long lost piece called ‚Technicolour Afterlife‘ which was the original ending (and title track) of the album that became 230503 back in 2005. This piece has recieved the same treatment as the rest of the songs and gives the ‚final page‘ to the story of 230503 after all these years. This is the way his story ends.

The new album is called DIFFERENT STORIES, and comes out - aptly - on 23rd May 2018. Or 230518 for the trainspotters.

In April 1968 Barclay James Harvest released their first single, Early Morning, on EMI’s Parlophone label and became the first signing to EMI’s progressive label Harvest Records (named after them) the following year. Their self-titled debut album was released in June 1970, and saw BJH successfully fuse an orchestra with rock to create a unique, sometimes pastoral, form of symphonic progressive rock. Produced by Norman Smith (also famed for his work with Pink Floyd and the Pretty Things), Barclay James Harvest was dominated by the twelve-minute epic Dark Now My Sky and also featured such wonderful material as The Iron Maiden, Mother Dear, When the World Was Woken and the fine rock tracks Taking Some Time On and Good Love Child. The album established Barclay James Harvest as o ne of Britain’s most unique groups and paved the way for a remarkable career and a catalogue of music that continues to endure. This expanded reissue has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 33 bonus tracks drawn from new 5.1 surround sound & stereo mixes from the original multi-track master tapes, BBC radio sessions from 1968 and 1971, the singles Early Morning, Brother Thrush & Taking Some Time On, a rare Woolly Wolstenholme solo demo from 1969 of The Sun Will Never Shine, along with the 1968 short film Mr. Sunshine. The set also includes a lavishly illustrated 68 page book with previously unseen photographs and an essay by BJH specialists Keith & Monika Domone. Additionally, the set includes a facsimile of the 1970 Barclay James Harvest orchestral tour programme and two facsimile press releases from 1968 and 1969, postcards and a replica 1968 record shop poster for the Early Morning single. A reissue of a classic album from the Danish psych/prog underground

CD 26037 BURNTFIELD - Hereafter................................................ 15,99 Burntfield are a progressive alternative rock band, whose music is discreetly spiced with a taste of AOR and hard rock elements. Reliance on strong melodies and powerful harmonies form the basis of their versatile songwriting. By mixing vintage and modern they create unique musical atmospheres.

Burntfield was founded in 2012 by guitarist-singer Juho Myllylä in Helsinki. After a few line-up changes, the band have now found a new home in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. In 2013, Burntfield’s debut EP Organic Waves was released, followed by the single release Let It Die Away in 2014 and the EP Cold Heat in 2015, which received numerous great reviews internationally. 2016 saw a tour of the Netherlands and furthermore the release of the single and music video My Grief. 2017 was spent working patiently on their debut album, Hereafter, which is now set for release on 7 May 2018 on Progressive Gears Records. It is a song that instantly reminds me of Anathema: melancholic and sensitive. Earning a reputation on the UK college and university live music circuit, COMUS signed to Dawn Records in 1970, releasing the album First Utterance“ and the ‚Diana‘ maxi single in 1971 before falling apart. Their 1971 album later attained a significant cult following and is regarded as one of the most interesting and influential releases on the Dawn label. This expanded and re-mastered reissue includes four bonus tracks taken from the ‚Diana‘ maxi-single, along with the song ‚All the Colours of Darkness‘, recorded during the „First Utterance“ sessions. Anlässlich des 20. Jubiläums wurde das Meilenstein-Album ‚Ocean Machine‘ in seiner vollen Länge aufgeführt, nachdem die Band zunächst ein Set gespielt hat, das die Fans zuvor aus Devins komplettem Katalog hatten auswählen können. Letzteres wurde vom Orchester und Chor der Staatlichen Oper Plovdiv begleitet. Dieses Konzert wurde geflimt und unter dem Namen ‚Ocean Machine - Live at the Ancient Roman Theatre Plovdiv‘ veröffentlicht. Devin kommentiert: ‚Ocean Machine wurde vor 20 Jahren veröffentlicht, und obwohl Marty (Schlahgzeug) nicht mehr unter uns weilt, konnte ich in dieser Nacht endlich das komplette Album in voller Länge zusammen mit unserem damaligen Bassiten John ‚Squid‘ Harder live aufführen. While the first volume was more ambient, the guitars play a more prominent role on Vol II. For Vol II Dr Space recruited two of his old friends, Daniel Lars and Stefan Krey (Gas Giant, Alkymist, Sumo Sun). The initial synth and drums (all created in Logic) were laid down and then multiple guitar layers were added. Additional synths were added in some cases.

Wer sind die Menschen um uns herum?“ STATION SONGS betrachtet die unterschiedlichen Versionen der Wirklichkeit, die wir wahrnehmen. Jeder sieht nur seinen Ausschnitt der ganzen Wahrheit, sowohl bei sich selbst als auch bei anderen. In sechs Bildern, aufgeteilt in neun Titel, erzählt Hans-Jürgen Fuchs die Geschichten von sechs Bahnhofs-Passanten aus zwei unterschiedlichen Perspektiven. So wie es vermutlich jeder von uns auch gerne macht, betrachtet eine Person in einem Bahnhof (The invisible man) regelmäßig andere Menschen. Man überlegt sich, wer die Person ist und was sie so macht.

Die beobachtete Person sieht sich natürlich aber wieder anders. Dieses dritte Album von FUCHS ist vielleicht das progressivste in der Reihe. Zumindest in dem Sinne wenn auch der Art-Rock zum Progressiv-Rock gehört. Zwar haben wir auf der einen Seite mehr Einflüsse von der Keyboarderin Ines Fuchs als auf den Alben zuvor. Andererseits wird auch die gesamte Musik atmosphärischer um mit der passenden Stimmung die vorliegenden Geschichten zu erzählen, so wie sie sich aus den verschiedenen Wirklichkeiten ergeben. FUCHS drückt es so aus: „Die Arbeit, die ich mit meinen Musiktheatern mache, hat natürlich auch Einfluss auf die Musik, die ich mit FUCHS mache. Oder um einen Vergleich zu bemühen, neben der Inspiration von Genesis, die mich schon mein ganzes musikalisches Leben begleiten, hat aktuell z.B. auch der Minimalismus des Komponisten Max Richter seine Wirkung hinterlassen.“ Damit trägt STATION SONGS noch mehr die Handschrift von Hans-Jürgen Fuchs als zuvor. Getreu dem Hauptthema des Albums wird jeder Hörer seine eigene Version der Wirklichkeit des Albums entwickeln. Die Besetzung der Platte ist ähnlich den beiden Vorgänger-Alben. HansJürgen Fuchs arbeitet nun schon länger mit diesen talentierten Stuttgarter Musikern, so dass man FUCHS mittlerweile getrost als gewachsene Band bezeichnen kann. Unterschiedlich ist nur der Anteil, den jeder neben seinem Hauptberuf in die Aufnahmen einbringen kann. Diesmal war Ines Fuchs mit den Keyboards, Chorgesang und auch als Photographin sehr stark involviert. Der viel gelobte Gitarrist Andy Bartzik hat sich ein halbes Jahr für die Aufnahmen zu Hause vorbereitet, um dann im Sommer 2017 in nur drei Tagen seine Gitarren-Parts einzuspielen. Über die ganze Produktionszeit von zwei Jahren sind wieder der Schlagzeuger Florian Dittrich, Ulbi Ulbricht am Bass und die beiden Sänger Baggi Buchmann und Michael Wasilewski dabei.

Garden Of Delights: LP-Neuauflage mit 20-Seiten Booklet. Spaciger Jazzrock ist nichts für jeden. Doch gibt es nicht viele Gruppen, die durchgehend aus derartig hervorragenden Könnern bestehen. Ein Auftritt in Köln vom Herbst 1972. Für Kenner.

Diese Spitzenkönner hätten wirklich den großen Durchbruch verdient gehabt, doch nur Rainer Brüninghaus hat ihn schließlich geschafft.

Der breiten Masse waren ihre beiden LPs damals zu anspruchsvoll und zu progressiv, den Liebhabern dieser Richtung wiederum zu jazzig. So saßen sie zwischen allen Stühlen und fanden mit ihren ausgefeilten Kunstwerken kaum Hörer. Gute Musik, doch gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Für Kenner. Dieser Auftritt enthält neben dem bisher völlig unbekannten Lilybaeum“ - mit Betonung auf dem

„ae“ - Bühnenfassungen von drei Stücken ihrer zweiten LP. Hinsichtlich der Aufnahme gilt das gleiche, was auch schon zur Gila-CD gesagt wurde. Am besten mache man sich selbst ein Bild. Das Heft von 20 Seiten enthält neben reichlich Bildern von Eiliff auch alles andere, was man an dieser Reihe inzwischen zu schätzen gelernt hat.

Auch wenn sie damals noch sehr jung waren, spielten die drei doch schon PENTAGON anerkennenswerten BluesDie Vertreibung der bösen rock, und vorliegendes Stück Geister aus dem Pentagon mit Flöte ist ein Genuß. Thomas Konder ist ein 48-jähriger Multi-Instrumentalist aus Deutschland (Rheinland-Pfalz, nahe Luxemburg). Er ist Songwriter, Drummer, Keyboarder, Sänger und Percussionist in einer Person und hat 3 Jahre lang an seinem erstes Album „Labyrinth“ gearbeitet (erschienen bei MUSEA). Sein Stil lässt sich treffend als Brücke zwischen dem ursprünglichen Progressive Rock (Yes, Genesis), dem Classic-Rock der 70er (Supertramp, Queen, Styx) sowie der aktuellen Retro-Prog-Welle (Transatlantic, Neal Morse, The Flower Kings) bezeichnen. Hierbei wird ein verwirrendes Labyrinth als Sinnbild für die unterschiedlichen und manchmal herausfordernden Lebenswege thematisiert. In den Texten geht es um Zielstrebigkeit, Neugierde und Orientierung, aber auch um Ausweglosigkeit, Umdenken und Umkehr sowie am Ende um das Erreichen eines großen persönlichen Ziels. Thomas Konder´s Sound ist auch dank der gewählten Sounds von E-Piano und Orgel eindeutig Retro-orientiert, wirkt aber dennoch angenehm frisch und erinnert stellenweise an Supertramp, Saga oder Alan Parsons Project. In seinen Produktionen treten zusätzlich befreundete Musiker an Gitarre, Saxophon, Geige oder Klarinette auf. Band-Geburtstages auf Tour quer durch Europa und Nord-Amerika gegangen, und haben ihre Show vom 13. April 2017 im berühmten Melkweg in Amsterdam aufgezeichnet, um die Live-Energie dieser besonderen Band für die Fans und die Nachwelt auf Film zu bannen. Dabei konzentriert sich die Set-List stark auf die beiden letzten Studio-Alben Affinity (2016) und The Mountain (2013), mit einer 22-minütigen Zugabe des Tracks Visions vom gleichnamigen Album (2011). Als Kernstück der Perfomance gilt jedoch das 25-minütige Aquamedley, das sich aus 6 von 7 Stücken des Debüt-Albums Aquarius (2010) zusammensetzt. Die Bonus-DVD enthält 4 Stücke der Live-Perfomance beim Prog Power Fest in Atlanta im Jahr 2016 sowie drei offizielle Musik-Videos.

Following the bands much-acclaimed fourth studio album Affinity, L-1VE is Haken’s first ever live album. Recorded and filmed on the 13th April 2017, at the Melkweg venue in Amsterdam, L-1VE represents the band’s first ever live document and includes tracks from across the bands discography. The band comments: “The release of official live material is a project that is long overdue and we know our existing fans have been crying out for this for some time now. It is largely due to the will of the people that the idea of this project became a reality. Both the band and the label were inundated with emails requesting a live release in some shape or form, and it was actually rather flattering, so giving the people what they wanted just felt like the right thing to do”.

The setlist focussed heavily on their 2 most recent critically acclaimed albums Affinity (2016) and The Mountain (2013) with a 22 minute encore of the title track from Visions (2011). However, the centrepiece of the album has to be Aquamedley, which sees the band celebrating and performing excerpts from their debut album Aquarius (2010) - a story of a mermaid born into a corrupt human world. 2CD/2DVD in digipak.

The DVD includes 4 bonus tracks filmed at ProgPower USA 2016, that also includes Mike Portnoy’s cameo appearance on gong, and all of the official videos from the Affinity album.

A lot of these references were explored on the band‘s previous album Aimless Mary“, but on „The Diary of Robert Reverie“ they embrace them even more - it‘s effortless, enthusiastic and playful. Olaf Olsen‘s drums are even more present, and dynamically swirls up the songs, while David Wallumrød plays the keys with an organic nerve as if the sound came from the earth itself. Everything is supervised by producer and bassplayer Nikolai Hængsle, who in is not afraid to turn on the fuzz when needed not unlike Soft Machine, still there‘s melody in each bass line. At the same time maestro and songwriter Bjørn Klakegg‘s guitar floats all over it and keeps it together ranging from soft jazzheat to wild rock heroism. Many of the lyrics are inspired by the environment around Bjørns place in Sweden, and the main character Robert, a dreamy individual, is also inspired by the nice, sometimes strange people in the small village. Passend dazu das Artwork von Paul Whitehead, der sich bereits für die Genesis-Cover von „Trespass“, „Nursery Crime“ und „Foxtrot“ verantwortlich zeichnete!“

Der Gitarrist Fernando Perdomo ist ein bekannter Name in der Musikszene von Los Angeles. Neben seiner Arbeit als Produzent für diverse Pop-Künstler interessiert er sich bisweilen auch für den „klassischen“ Prog der 70er, was er auf „Out to Sea“ demonstriert. Auf seinen anderen Soloalben widmet er sich eher der Popmusik. Eventuell ist er einigen schon als Mitglied der Dave Kerzner Band aufgefallen. Das Artwork und der Titel von „Out to sea“ sind offenbar mit dem Gedanken an die Konzertreihe „Cruise to the Edge“ entstanden, die es den gut betuchten unter den Prog-Fans ermöglicht, zahlreiche Prog-Konzerte auf einem sog. Kreuzfahrtschiff zu erleben. Das Artwork stammt übrigens von Paul Whitehead, der auch einige Genesis-Alben mit seiner Arbeit veredelte. (Dass der Schadstoffaustoß eines einziges „Kreuzfartschiffes“ ungefähr dem Schadstoffaustoß von 50000000 Autos entspricht, interessiert in der schönen bunten Welt des Prog offenbar keinen).Also wurde „Out to Sea“ rechtzeitig vor „Cruise to the Edge 2018“ veröffentlicht. Während dieser Veranstaltung konnte Perdomo mit zahlreichen bekannten und wenigen bekannten Kollegen aus der Progszene – und natürlich als Mitglied der Band von Dave Kerzner – musizieren. Traditionsbewusster, klassischer und konservativer im Sinne des „klassischen“ Prog, als es der Gitarrist Fernando Perdomo auf „Out to Sea“ vormacht, geht es vermutlich nicht. Perdomo ließ sich bei seinem Gitarrenspiel durch die diversen bekannten Gitarristen des Genres beeinflussen, allen voran Steve Howe, Peter Banks und Steve Hackett. Die Untertitel der jeweiligen Tracks wie „Tribute to Peter Banks“, „Tribute to Focus“ und „Tribute to Sonja Kristina und Focus“ zeigen eindeutig, dass es Perdomo auf diesem Album in erster Linie wichtig war, seinen Vorbildern zu huldigen.„The Architect (Tribute to Peter Banks)“ klingt sehr stark nach den frühen Yes, Riff-Zitate von P. Banks mit einbegriffen. In einem ähnlichen Geist, mit einem ähnlich stark ausgeprägten Einfühlungsvermögen, geht es dann weiter. „De Boerderij (Tribute to Focus)“ und „The Future According to Roye (Tribute to Roye Albrighton)“ könnte man mit Erfolg als verschollene, dementsprechend von Focus und Nektar stammende Instrumentals vermarkten. Weil Perdomo hier ausschliesslich instrumentale Musik bietet, ist eine Hommage an die Sänger Sonja Kristina („Sonja“) und John Wetton („Starless“ als CD-Bonus Track) mit gewissen Einschränkungen behaftet, die eine gesanglose Huldigung an einen Sänger eben so mit sich bringt. „Starless“ in der Version von Perdomo wird vermutlich nur diejenigen Crimson-Fans begeistern, die auf verträumte Ambient-Bearbeitungen stehen. Was mal keine eindeutige Huldigung sein soll, wie der Titeltrack, „The Dream“, oder „Roses…“ klingt dann nach einem gut gemachten symphonischen instrumentalen Retroprog mit gelungenen, melodieorientierten Gitarrenbeiträgen.

Meistens erinnern mit solche Stücke von Perdomo an The Flower Kings. Neben seinen Aufgaben als hauptamtlicher Gitarrist konnte Perdomo seine Arrangements auch noch mit geschmackvoll ergänzenden Tasteninstrumenten und gar nicht mal negativ auffallenden Schlagzeugbeiträgen ausstatten. „Out to Sea“ kann als Beispiel für solide Traditionspflege im Bereich des symphonischen Prog (wie er durch Camel, oder The Flower Kings bekannt ist) dienen.

Die Rocklegenden Pink Floyd legen 2018 ihr zweites Konzertalbum „Pulse“ neu auf und zwar auf Vinyl.

Die Aufnahmen für das Livedoppelalbum entstanden auf der „The Division Bell“-Tournee von 1994, zwischen August und Oktober bei Konzerten in London, Rom, Modena und Hannover in der Besetzung David Gilmour (Gitarre, Gesang),Nick Mason (Schlagzeug, Percussion), Richard Wright (Keyboards, Gesang) und Guy Pratt (Bass, Gesang). Das Besondere: „Pulse“ versammelte erstmals Livemitschnitte des vollständigen Albums „The Dark Side Of The Moon“.

Jetzt gibt es den Meilenstein in einer aufwendigen Vinyl-Box mit vier 180-g-LPs. Alle Titel wurden für die Neuauflage von den Originaltapes remastert, und zwar von James Guthrie, Joel Plante und Bernie Grundman. Das Artwork wurde von Aubrey Powell (Hipgnosis) zusammen mit Peter Curzon, der am Originalcover mitwirkte, nachgebildet. 1971 erschien dieser Sampler mit Songs von den ersten fünf Singles und einigen Tracks aus vorangegangenen LPs. Das Cover wurde von Nick Mason gezeichnet und die remasterten Neuausgabe zeigt die Zeichnung als Modell. Hier sind also die frühen Meisterwerke aus der psychedelischen Ära der Band versammelt, der Wäscheklauer Arnold Lane ( im originalen Monomix), neben dem unvorsichtigen Eugene. Alles kleine Highlights der Psychedelic. In „Julia Dream“ singt neben Wright auch erstmals Gilmour die Leadstimme. „Cirrus minor“ könnte auch aus UMMAGUMMA stammen, nur Vogelgezwitscher mit etwas Orgel und sparsamen Effekten unterlegt. Ein genau so verrückter Song wie das Ende von „Bike“ mit dem stakkatohaften Uhrwerkgeräuschen am Ende - damals war halt alles erlaubt ;-). Außerdem zeigt sich, wie effektvoll man auch mit der damaligen Vierspurtechnik Musik produzieren sollte.

Für mich mit der ersten LP die schönste von Pink Floyd, aber ich stehe halt auf die britsche Psychedelic. Für andere eine gute Möglichkeit, die frühe Phase der Band kennenzulernen. Review: A. Pläschke/BBS

Robert produced, mixed and engineered the album, and plays most of the instruments himself, with the help of legendary drummer Simon Phillips (Toto/Mike Oldfield), recorder player Les Penning and „Tubular Bells“ producers Tom Newman and Simon Heyworth. Robert talks about the continued evolution of his own style during the production of the new album: “I think Sanctuary III shows that my writing has really moved on from the first two albums. I composed it without any pre conceived musical barriers so nothing was off limits. As a result, it‘s much more “me”. People will spot a lot of influences, but on Sanctuary III they are taken from a much broader musical spectrum. The Sanctuary albums have always been about long-form musical compositions that carry you on a emotional journey, using real instruments that are hand-played. Bran Coucou CD#26006 • 14,99€ 2LP#26007 • 21,99€ Die Freunde des französischen (und sonstigen) Avant-Prog sind schon in heller Aufregung. Da haben sich nämlich die Musiker von PoiL und Ni zu einem siebenköpfigen Monster aus zwei Schlagzeugern, zwei Bassisten, zwei Gitarristen und einem Keyboarder zusammengeschlossen. Mal ehrlich jetzt, bei den Bandnamen wie Ni und Poil erscheint ein Piniol genanntes gemeinsames Projekt fast schon wie ein schon immer geplanter Schritt.

Zumindest was die Schönheit betriff, die in einem Bandnamen stecken kann, ist Piniol in meinen Augen ein Fortschritt. Hätte ich die Auswahl zwischen der Bezeichnung „siebenköpfige Hydra“ (so der Infozettel) und dem Wortgebilde „Avant-Prog-Supergroup“ (was hier vermutlich nicht völlig abwegig wäre) würde ich mich dann doch aus ästhetischen Gründen für das erstere entscheiden. Genaugenommen spielen die sechs Musiker schon mindestens seit Januar 2018 immer mal wieder zusammen, aber erst Ende April des gleichen Jahres ist ihre erste CD namens „Bran Coucou“ rausgekommen. Was man auf dem Album dann schließlich zu hören bekommt, ist nicht etwa doppelt so abgefahren und verrückt, wie die bisherigen Einfälle von Ni im PoiL. Vielmehr werden die bisher von den Musiker bekannten Ingredienzien, wie die krummen Rhythmen, die repetitiven Muster und die schrägen Gesänge in scheinbar fiktiven Sprachen sehr vorteilhaft für die erweiterte Besetzung arrangiert und auf diese Weise raffinierter umgesetzt.

Der eröffnende, durch seine durchdachte Steigerung fast schon Gänsehaut erzeugende Longtrack „Pilon Bran Coucou“ kann als eine Avant-ProgKomposition eigentlich nicht mehr getoppt werden…denkt man vielleicht, bis man die anderen Stücke gehört hat. Diese bestechen nämlich durch die energetische Umsetzung der polyphonen Einfälle, die sich zudem der Rhythmen bedienen, die jede Mathrock-Truppe vor Neid erblassen lassen würden. Wären da runtergestimmte Gitarren im Spiel, könnte man stellenweise fast schon von Djent-Strukturen sprechen. Die Orgie von repetitiven Gitarrenfiguren, die beispielsweise in „Mimolle“ und „Sho Shin“ veranstaltet wird, dürfte vielen Fans von King Crimson der 80er Jahre die Tränen der Freude in die Augen treiben. WOW! Wohl um das Tempo und die Intensität ein wenig runterzufahren beginnt „Francois“ fast schon postrockigentspannt, um sich dann bald zu einem beinahe progmetallisch rockenden Gitarrengeflecht zu verdichten, das von einer vierköpfigen Rhythmustruppe zu immer neuen Höhepunkten angetrieben wird. Das ist für mich die Virtuosität, die Sinn macht! Auch wenn einige Anhänger vom symphonischen Prog das vielleicht anders sehen werden. Riff-Freunde, die gerne Long Distance Calling, oder Ocean hören, sollten mal „Kerberos“ lauschen. Da scheinen mir die Grenzen zu Progmetal bei Piniol fließend zu sein. So auch in dem melancholisch-postrockig beginnenden „Orbite“, das anschließend mit doomigen Riffs auswartet. Das wäre dann mehr etwas wie Avant-DoomProg-Metal, was durch die dissonanten Töne und die seltsamen schamanischen Gesänge bestätigt wird. Über weite Strecken dürfte „Bran Cocou“ ein Fest – und vielleicht die Scheibe des Jahres – sein für diejenigen, die energetischen, polyphon arrangierten, mathematisch präzisen und abgefahrenen Avant-Prog mögen und sich an der gelegentlichen Nähe zu (experimentellem) Progmetal nicht stören.

Die uns bislang unbekannten RTfact (was bedeutet wohl der spezielle Name?) haben den Rezensenten schon beim ersten Hördurchgang in den Bann gezogen. Nach längerem Dauerlauf von “Life Is Good” ist in den Gehörgängen kein Verschleiss festzustellen. Ganz im Gegenteil, die Freude über den Retroprog im musikalischen Gewand der 70er wächst weiter. Es handelt sich hier um keine Band, sondern ein Pojekt des in Russland aufgewachsenen Komponisten Yuri Volodarsky sowie des U.S. Amerkanischen Texters David Andrew Grout. Neben den russischen Landsleuten Edward Tsiselsky (Keyboards), Dmitry Ilugdin (Synthesizer) sowie Eugene Sharikov (Bass) hat man sich einige hochkarätige Musiker aus verschiedenen Genres geholt. So werden mit Jeff Scott Soto (u.a. Journey, Yngwie Malmsteen), Nad Sylvan (u.a. Steve Hackett, Agents of Mercy, Unifaun) und dem U.S. Amerikanischen Ausnahmetalent Will Champlin, dem Sohn des Komponisten und ex-Chicago Keyboarders Bill Champlin (u.a. CTA – California Transit Authority) drei exzellente Sänger geboten, die auf Grund ihrer unterschiedlichen Stimmfarben für beste Qualität und Abwechslung sorgen. Als Gitarristen hört man Oz Noy (u.a. Steely Dan, Sting, John Medeski), Jeff Kollman (u.a. Chad Smith, Cosmosquad, Asia, Glenn Hughes), Rafael Moreira (u.a. Virgil Donati, Paul Stanley) und Josh Smith (U.S. Sessionmusiker). Gary Meek (u.a. Brian Bomberg, Jeff Lorber) bereichert das Soundpaket mit einigen gekonnten Saxophon- und Flötenklängen und Joel Taylor (u. a. Alan Holdsworth, Al DiMeola) sorgt für variationsreiches Schlagzeugspiel. Nicht zu vergessen sind einige gesampelten Symphonie Orchesterklänge sowie Chorgesänge, wodurch eine Prise Klassik das musikalische Werk zusätzlich würzt. Die neun Kompositionen verbeugen sich vor den Wurzeln des Art Rock zu Beginn der 70er Jahre. Hinzu kommen Ausflüge in die Genres Jazz Rock und Classic Rock. Die besondere Qualität des Erstlings von RTFACT liegt in einer bestens austarierten Mischung aus Komplexität und eingängigen melodischen Tönen. Dazu faszinieren die Soloausflüge der Gitarristen und Keyboarder, die hier mehrere instrumentale Sahnehäubchen servieren.

Um dennoch eine kurze Einschätzung zu geben: In der Ouvertüre ´Silhouettes` legt Schulze alles für eine epische Sinfonie zurecht, belässt es dann aber ganz bewusst bei Andeutungen, Schatten und verwehten Fragmenten, während die drei anderen Nummern mit den für ihn typischen Sequenzern ausgestattet sind. Ansonsten gilt für das gesamte Album das bewährte Motto des innovativen Künstlers: Let the music talk!

Strangefish schaffen es, wie schon auf „Full Scale“ nach sich selbst zu klingen und haben ihren Sound weiter verfeinert. Dieser wird definiert durch Taylors tollen Gesang, O‘Neills variables Keyboardspiel, (Dave!) Whittakers sorgfältiges und unaufdringlich groovendes Schlagzeugspiel, Bobs abwechslungsreichen Einsatz von akustischer und elektrischer Gitarre und last but not least den pumpenden Bass und das tolle Violinenspiel Gregorys. So offenbart sich ein kleines Meisterwerk an Detailverliebtheit und unterschiedlichen Eindrücken und Stimmungen. Viele Stellen strahlen nur so von einer inneren Schönheit, die vielen „lauteren“ Alben abgeht und offenbaren die Liebe, mit der dieses Album gemacht wurde. Musikalisch und vom Konzept her gesellt sich dazu der Eindruck, dass das Album in sich selbst ruht, absolut stimmig ist, so und nicht anders sein kann. Wenn Glück nicht in Reichtum und Ruhm liegt, sondern darin, zu sein der man ist, dann können Strangefish mit „Fortune Telling“ sehr zufrieden sein: Das Album ist, was es ist – mehr noch, es ist glücklich, wie es ist. 18 Gesungen wird scheinbar auf Norwegisch, was für uns hierzulande wohl eine exotische Note darstellt).

Der simple treibende Rhythmus und der raue Sprechgesang in Teilen von „Fjernsyn i farver“ haben für mich doch etwas von Punk-Rock. Wären da nicht die den Gesang untermalenden Beiträge der Flöte, die gelegentlich flirrenden Synthies und die Tracklänge von 8 Minuten, könnte man meinen, stellenweise etwa der Truppe namens The Clash zu lauschen. Das Stück hat im Rahmen der beachtlichen Länge durchaus noch psychedelisch-progressive Passagen zu bieten, die dann reizvoll mit der scheinbar punkigen Attitüde kontrastieren.

Der raue Anstrich und die nicht immer raffinierten Rhythmen einiger Stücke können nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass sich unter der rauen Schale von „Fjernsyn i farver“ die zahlreichen Flötenmelodien sowie diverse Beiträge seitens der Tasteninstrumente verbergen, die doch wieder in Richtung Prog weisen.

Der Musiker, der die führende Gesangsmelodie vorträgt, wird hin und wieder von den nicht minder bodenständigen Gesangschören abgelöst, so dass es mich manchmal gelüstet, das Gebotene als Vikinger-Prog zu bezeichnen. „Borgerlig Tussmorke“ basiert von Anfang an auf zerbrechlichen Tönen der Flöte und des Pianos. Auch die Rhythmen und die Gesangsmelodie sind verstärkt episch und balladesk. Keine Spur mehr von der punkigen Attitüde.

In „3001“ sind es doch etwas komplexere Rhythmen, die elektronische Orgel und der kraftvolle Fuzz-Bass, die insgesamt eine Art vom progressiven Stoner Rock erzeugen. Die Teile der Gesangsmelodie erinnern mich stark an „Hand of Doom“ von Black Sabbath, die zu den offiziellen Einflüssen von Tusmorke gehören. Später kommen in dem beinahe neunminütigen Stück Akzente und Arrangements hinzu, die einen doch an Spacerock denken lassen.

Ist es etwa jazziger Karibik-Flair, was sich da am Anfang von „Death Czar“ abzeichnet? Das Stück würde jedenfalls Ende der 60er, oder Anfang der 70er kaum jemandem als eine Verschmelzung von Psychedelic, Space und Krautrock unpassend, oder wie aus der Zeit gefallen vorkommen. Ganz ähnlich verhält es sich mit dem ersten Teil von „Toyens Hemmelighet“, das nach ca. 4 Minuten allerdings nicht nur mit funkigen Arrangements (Clavinet-Klänge inklusive), sondern gleich danach kurz mit flotten Disco-Rhythmen überrascht. Humor haben die auch noch, die Norweger!

Die Scheibe gibt es als CD, Download und als reguläre Langspielplatte. Darüberhinaus darf noch eine limitierte Splatter-Vinyl-Version erworben werden.

Retro-Vikinger-Prog (offizielle Bezeichnung: psychedelischer und progressiver Folkrock) mit zwischen rau und zerbrechlich wechselnder Attitüde, so stellt sich für mich die Musik auf „Fjernsyn i farver“ dar. Interessant und vielschichtig!

Als Peter Hammill Ende 2003 einen Herzinfarkt erlitt, wuchs nicht nur in ihm der drängende Wunsch das angedachte Projekt tatsächlich anzugehen. „Es gab ein starkes Gefühl, dass wir noch nicht am Ende unserer Reise waren“, erinnert sich David Jackson Der in diesem Produkt auf 2CD und DVD festgehaltene Gig beim Jazzfestival in Leverkusen – der einzige in Deutschland – sollte die Krönung der Reunion-Tour in 2005 werden. „Wir wussten, dass der Gig professionell aufgenommen und gefilmt wird, das ist in der Geschichte unserer Band ja nicht besonders häufig passiert“, so Jackson.

Tatsächlich hatte es bis dahin keine Filmaufnahme eines gesamten Van der Graaf Generator-Konzerts gegeben. „Der Leverkusen-Gig kam so ziemlich am Ende unserer Reunion-Tour, so dass wir sehr gut eingespielt waren und uns mittlerweile sehr wohl dabei fühlten, wieder gemeinsam auf der Bühne zu stehen“, erinnert sich Hugh Banton. Guy Evans schwärmt von der intimen Bindung, die bei diesem Konzert mit dem Publikum aufgebaut wurde, und die der Band half, diesen Abend zu etwas Besonderem zu machen; nicht zuletzt auch, weil es Peter Hammills 57.

ten eine Tür in die Vergangenheit. Jetzt spielten Van Der Graaf Generator ebenso energiegeladen, dunkel und verführerisch wie in ihren Hochzeiten Mitte der 70er Jahre. Peter Hammills Stimme war in Leverkusen ebenso kraftvoll wie damals, was angesichts seines exzentrischen, eigenwilligen, ergreifend emotionalen Gesangsstils eine echte Auszeichnung ist. Vor allem aber ist der vorliegende Gig ein Dokument ehrlicher Zuneigung, nicht nur zwischen den Musikern und ihren Fans, sondern auch der Musiker untereinander, was die tiefe, jahrzehntelange Freundschaft zwischen ihnen spiegelt. Umso trauriger, dass es kurz nach der Tour zum Zerwürfnis mit David Jackson kam. Und so klingt Jackson auch ein wenig bitter, wenn er die Vorzüge der vorliegenden DVD preist: „Ihr werdet niemals mehr ein besseres Konzert dieses Line-Ups zu sehen bekommen!“

CD 25964 WITTHÜSER & WESTRUPP - Der Jesuspilz Live......... 14,99 VÖ: 20.04.2018 Live-Mitschnitt (Jugendzentrum Essen / 1971) des legendären Liedermacher-Duos WITTHÜSER & WESTRUPP. „Der Jesuspilz Live“ erscheint als CD im Digipack-Format inklusive achtseitigem Booklet sowie als Vinyl-Edition mit zweiseitigem Beiblatt auf SIREENA. || Das aus Essen stammende Liedermacher-Duo WITTHÜSER & WESTRUPP zählte in den Jahren zwischen 1969 und 1973 zu den populärsten (und erfolgreichsten) Vertretern der deutschen Undergound-Szene. Zu Anfang ihrer Karriere in der Essener Folk- und Protestszene aktiv und zudem Mitorganisatoren der 68er Essener Songtage, debütierten die beiden Multiinstrumentalisten zunächst als W & W‘S POP-CABARET, bevor sie 1970 ihren Namen in die bekannte Form abänderten. Gleichzeitig mit der Umbenennung änderte sich auch der musikalische Stil des Duos. Waren sie zuvor den puristischen Folkklängen verpflichtet, so integrierten sie jetzt verstärkt psychedelische Elemente in ihre Songs. So verwundert es nicht, dass ihre drei Album-Veröffentlichungen seinerzeit auf den heutigen Kultlabels OHR und PILZ von ROLF-ULRICH KAISER erschienen und die beiden zudem auf den Aufnahmen von COSMIC JOKERS, KLAUS SCHULZE, TANGERINE DREAM, HOELDERLIN und BRÖSELMASCHINE zu hören sind. Ihre erfolgreichste Veröffentlichung war dabei das von ROLF-ULRICH KAISER und GILLE LETTMANN produzierte Album „Der Jesuspilz“, das unter musikalischer Mitwirkung von DIETER DIERKS in dessen Studio in Stommeln entstand. Während die Uraufführung der „Jesusoper“ am 25.11.1971 unter großem Medieninteresse in der Essener Apostel-Kirche stattfand, stammen die jetzt auf SIREENA erscheinenden historischen Aufnahmen von der wenige Tage zuvor abgehaltenen Generalprobe im Jugendzentrum Essen.

They are not easily labeled in regards to a specific genre, as they work within a lot of different styles and somehow manage to merge these different inputs into a powerful, melodic, organic, and original whole.

Dabei klingt dieses Album durch und durch nach den US of A. Nach den Südstaaten, um genau zu sein, schließlich ist im Sound dieses Trios der Blues in unterschiedlichen Formen zu vernehmen, zu jeder Zeit aber von typischen SouthernRoots inspiriert und geprägt. Zumeist kommt die Chose tonnenschwer und mit Wehmut in traditionell-klassischer Machart aus den Boxen, BLACK RIVER DELTA versteht es aber durchaus auch den Blues in zeitgenössisch-rockiger Manier zu intonieren. Die Authentizität des Songmaterials wird durch die Texte weiterhin untermauert, denn auch was die Themen der Tracks betrifft, hat man den Faden der Altvorderen aufgenommen und gibt Biographien von Spielern ebenso zum Besten, wie man Frauen an sich (‚Betty‘), Beziehungen und daraus resultierende Dramen (‚Bye Bye Birdie‘) besingt. Die Gesangsstimme von Erik Jacobs hat an sich eine dezente Whiskey“-Schlagseite, kommt aber auch in den eher gedämpft intonierten Nummern wie ‚Neon Truck Stop Sign‘ oder ‚Velvet Clouds‘ in sonorem Vortrag gut zur Geltung. Das gilt ebenso für die akzentuiert eingesetzte Mundharmonika und selbstverständlich auch für die immer wieder lässig bearbeitete und wohl bewusst in den Vordergrund gemischte Slide-Gitarre. Genre-Spezialisten werden ohnehin wissen, was zu tun ist. All jene, die das erst werden wollen, können mit BLACK RIVER DELTA nicht viel falsch machen, schließlich bekommen sie mit „Vol. II“ eine ausgewogene Mischung gelungener Songs geboten. (.W. Es handelt sich dabei um ein satirisches Konzept-Album mit Songs und gesprochenen Zwischenspielen, basierend auf der Geschichte der schlechten Qualität der Lockheed F-104 Starfighter Flugzeuge. Die wahre Magie und Originalität des Albums liegt in der effektiven Kombination von Psychedelicmit Space-Rock und Folk-Musik, durchzogen von Monty Python artigen Sketchen. Die Reihe der mitwirkenden, nicht gerade unbekannten Künstler, lässt so manchen Musik-Experten aufhorchen, denn nicht jedem ist bewusst, dass hier keine geringeren als Brian Eno, Lemmy Kilmister und Arthur Brown mit am Werk waren. Um die Klangqualität zu optimieren, wurden die Longplayer ‚Tunnel of Love‘ (1987) und ‚Human Touch‘ (1992) auf Doppel-Vinyl gepresst. Das Boxset besteht somit aus insgesamt 10 Schallplatten. Alle Studioalben dieser Box wurden von der RIAA mit Gold, Platin oder Mehrfach-Platin zertifiziert, die LPs erreichten die Top 5 der Billboard 200D. CD 25968 WALKER, RYLEY - Deafman Glance............................. 15,99 Deafman Glance, gemastert von Miles Showell in den Abbey Road Studios in London, ist das zweite Ryley Walker Album, welches von LeRoy Bach und Walker selbst produziert wurde. Es wurde größtenteils in den Minbal (jetzt JAMDEK) Studios in Chicago aufgenommen. Einige spätere Sessions fanden auch in den USA Studios und in LeRoys Küche statt. Cooper Crain (Bitchin ‚Bajas, Cave) nahm das Album auf und mixte es, außerdem fügte er ein paar Synthieklänge hinzu. Ryley spielt auf Deafman Glance sowohl elektrische als auch

akustische Gitarre und wurde dabei von seinen langjährigen Sparringspartnern Brian J Sulpizio und Bill Mackay begleitet, die beide E-Gitarre spielen. LeRoy Bach, der selbst auch mal zur E-Gitarre griff, fügte Klavier und andere Tasteninstrumente hinzu. Andrew Scott Young am Kontrabass, Matt Lux am E-Bass, Mikel Avery und Quin Kirchner am Schlagzeug/Percussion vervollständigen das Ensemble. Als Gast ist der berüchtigte Chicagoer Saxophonist Nate Lepine zu hören, der zudem noch eine Menge Flötentöne hinzugefügt hat. Ryley Walker über Deafman Glance: I was under a lot of stress because I was trying to make an anti-folk record and I was having trouble doing it. I wanted to make something deep-fried and more me-sounding. I didn‘t want to be jammy acoustic guy anymore. I just wanted to make something weird and far-out that came from the heart finally. I was always trying to make something like this I guess, trying to catch up with my imagination. And I think I succeeded in that way - it‘s got some weird instrumentation on there, and some surreal far-out words. And it‘s more Chicago-y sounding. Die Band spielt durchgehend am Anschlag vor einem trotz nächtlichem Regen dauer-tanzenden Publikum einen ihrer besten und sehr hardrockigen Gigs. Ein schwerer Hardrock-Hammond-Sound dient hier als Grundlage mit diesmal etwas mehr Dominanz auf dem Gitarrenspiel und einem bemerkenswerten Bassgroove der mittlerweile integrierten Bassistin Vroni Frisch, die der Band nochmals einen Kick der Extraklasse mitgibt.

Alle Songs des Gigs sind auf der Platte enthalten, wobei besonders der Space Debris-live-Klassiker „Mountain“ in einer wohl ultimativen 20 Min-Fassung vorliegt. Dieses Stück wird nun schon seit über 10 Jahren live weiterentwickelt und variiert, doch hier letztlich zum Meisterstück geformt. Üblicherweise führen die instrumentalen Improvisationen vom Hardrock mitunter wieder in andere Stile wie Funk, Jazz, Blues bis sogar zu kurzen modernen Techno-Versatzstücken, wodurch der Hardrock der 70er lebendig bleibt und unerwartete Wendungen zuläßt.

Der schönen CD-3-Panel-Digipac-Version „Mountain Ultimate“ mit schönem 8-page Folder liegt eine Bonus-CD „Spacedelic Odyssey“ eines kompletten Konzerts der Band im Jazzkeller Hofheim bei. Am Bass war dort der durch seine Gigs mit der Miller Anderson Band und Pete York bekannte Janni Schmidt, der schon auf der letzten Studioplatte von Space Debris mitwirkte. Hier sind z.T. experimentelle Keyboards etwas dominanter als beim Loshausen-Gig.
