BACKCOUNTRY SAFETY
Know Before You Go is also a term used to stress the importance of Backcountry Safety. Skiing or riding in the backcountry is an amazing way to experience nature however because terrain access is beyond the boundaries of a ski resort, there is no avalanche control work or ski patrol. Before heading out into the backcountry, make sure to take an avalanche safety course, check weather conditions and fully assess the risk. There is specific gear you will need to stay safe (a beacon, probe and shovel to name a few), along with knowledge of reading snowpack and identifying safe routes to hike and lines to ride.
