PROFILE

The Rajput Family

OF GG MARKET

You can’t find a family that is happier to live in Somersett than Raaj and Pam Rajput along with their two sons, Dishu and Chase, who are the smiling faces you see when you stop by the local convenience store GG Market in the Town Center.

“It was meant to be,” says Pam who smiles when talking about the day in 2016 when her husband Raaj was driving around different Reno neighborhoods searching for the perfect place to open their family’s convenience store. He drove by the Somersett Town Center, stopped by to look at an empty retail space, and bumped into Terry and Clay, his now landlords who told him they were looking for someone to open a convenience store. You can’t get more kismet than that!

Six years later, GG Market (which stands for “God’s Grace’’) is a staple Somersett small business owned by one of its own residents. But the Rajput family hasn’t always lived in Somersett and only recently moved to the neighborhood in early 2021. Before that, they lived in South Reno and would commute to the store early in the morning to open by 8 am and leave late at night, often closing at 11 pm. Pam recounts many stories of just how kind Somersett residents were to them over the years. How in those early years, when winter storms got bad and it was dangerous to drive home, residents would stop by the store and offer their homes up for Raaj or Pam to sleep there overnight. Or the time a resident who lived near the store heard a loud noise and ran over to make sure they were safe and sound. Somersett continuously welcomed them to the neighborhood even before they were official residents of The Village. “There is just so much kindness in Somersett, it was just a matter of time before we made it our home too,” says Pam.

Get to Know the Rajput Family

Originally from India, Raaj and Pam moved to Reno with their eldest son Dishu, who is now 21 years old. Their youngest son Chase is 10 years old and loves to swim at the Town Center pool and make slime which he sells at the store for fun. Other important family members are Pam’s cat Saskei and their newest member, Dishu’s 1-year-old Siberian Husky named Bruce.

Where Can We Find You on Your Day Off?

“Sunday is Funday, which is our family day,” says Pam, and you can find them enjoying their family time at a trampoline park, roller skating, at the water slides, bowling, and enjoying many other fun activity centers in Reno.

Hobbies?

Pam used to be a beautician and loves to do nails and Raaj’s hobby is actually running the store, as he’s constantly looking out for new and unique goods to offer their customers.

Popular Store Items?

Residents pop in frequently to pick up alcohol for parties and kids love to visit “candy island,’’ the candy aisle at the store. They also have groceries and say they’d be happy to order things for residents if they don’t have them on hand.

Next time you’re at the Town Center, please stop by GG Market to meet Raaj and Pam who have made Somersett their life’s work as well as their home.
