New field response unit for F3
Reserve upgrades officially opened
new field response unit for critical incidents on the F3 Freeway will be established to help improve incident management and service delivery for motorists.

The opening of the five projects funded in Round 3 by the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Communtiy Infrastructure Program
ive projects funded by the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP) round three were officially opened at Caroline Cox Reserve, Niagara Park, on Friday, October 28, by member for Dobell Mr Craig Thomson and Gosford mayor Cr Laurie Maher.
F
Under the Program, $115,000 of Federal funding was spent on the reserve upgrade which included Caroline Cox Reserve Playground, Mooney Mooney Playground, Frost Reserve Floodlighting, Woy Woy Tennis Floodlighting and Yarunga Viewing Platform and Picnic Area. “This is a welcome
upgrade that will give the children in the local area playing pleasure for years to come and give their families the security of knowing they are in a safe and stimulating environment,” Mr Thomson said. “We can be assured of that, thanks to the children themselves having a say in the design of

their playground and the selection of the equipment. “I congratulate Gosford City Council for organising a public consultation meeting, and travelling to Narara Public School to talk with the children and invite them to draw the facilities they would like,” said Mr Thomson. Cr Maher said Council was offered $577,000 as part of the round three funding for projects within the area. “We have received this funding for five projects within the Gosford Local Government Area from an initiative which has helped local communities respond to the global financial crisis and supported jobs for local tradespeople, contractors and small businesses. Cr Maher said the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program projects were a good example of different levels of government
working together to provide improved facilities for local communities. “Gosford City Council would like to thank the Federal Government for its investment under the RLCIP and we look forward to continuing to work together for the benefit of our residents. “I would like to congratulate the Woy Woy Tennis Club, who, through fundraising, were able to contribute $10,000 to their floodlighting installation – a fantastic effort by all involved,” said Cr Maher. The upgrade of Caroline Cox Reserve Playground also received $45,000 under the NSW Communities – Community Building Partnerships. Mr Thomson said: “At the core of this program is a whole-of-government approach to regional development.” “It’s about working with local governments to find local solutions to local challenges.” Media release, 28 Oct 2011 Gosford Council Media
NSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said: “The new field response unit will have two full-time traffic commanders, new light and heavy vehicle tow trucks and other essential traffic management equipment housed at a depot just north of the Hawkesbury River.” “The depot has direct access to both the north and southbound carriageways on the F3 and the Old Pacific Highway and is also close to a major diversion point for detours. “The location of the depot is particularly helpful, as it will cover the critical stretch of road between Berowra and Mount White. “It’s also less than 4km from the emergency helipad at South Brooklyn which can be used by NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit during critical incidents, and is next door to an ambulance station which will provide the opportunity for emergency services to work more closely together when incidents occur,” said minister Gay. The F3 freeway is a vital link on the state and national road network and a key freight corridor which carries more than 75,000 vehicles each day. The F3 is unique to other freeways as there are often large distances between exits which can make it difficult for motorists to exit the freeway when an
incident occurs and the road is closed. Mr Gay said that to manage the traffic needs of the freeway significant resources were required. “The addition of this new depot will assist with managing major incidents and help motorists get to their destination as quickly as possible,” said Mr Gay. “Heavy tow truck and traffic commanders have already started work with positive results. “Since starting work, staff have assisted in numerous incidents, including six in their first two days of operation. “The light tow truck will start work within the next few weeks. “This combined with the staff and heavy vehicle tow will provide an even faster, more efficient service to motorists using the F3.” Minister for the Central Coast Mr Chris Hartcher as well as local members Mr Chris Spence, Mr Chris Holstein, Mr Darren Webber and Mr Garry Edwards welcomed the new unit. “This is an excellent additional resource for road users,” said Mr Hartcher. “Motorists who regularly use the F3 will benefit by this new unit,” he said. Council to seek special rate variation osford mayor Cr Laurie Maher has recommended that Council prepare preliminary business cases to determine whether Council can seek special rate variation funding for the development of the Landing and associated infrastructure.
G
The item was starred as a mayoral minute at Council’s meeting of Tuesday, November 1, but was deferred until Tuesday, November 8, due to the mayor’s absence. For Gosford Council to seek a special rate variation for the infrastructure, the project must first be deemed necessary, consistent with council’s community strategic plan, delivery program and operational plans, offer value for money and ensure council has the capacity to deliver and maintain its current and future community services in the long term. The council must also demonstrate that its decision to carry out the capital expenditure is based on sound strategic and financial planning, supported by valid data and research and that it reflects the views, priorities and objectives of the broader community. A special rate variation would provide council with the opportunity to increase its general income by an amount greater than the annual rate peg amount in order to fund the infrastructure. The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) will assess and determine special variation applications by councils in the 2012/13 year under powers delegated by the Minister for Local Government. IPART’s consideration of special variation applications are designed to encourage councils to provide services that reflect their community’s demands. The IP and R framework provides a mechanism
for councils and their communities to have important discussions about service levels and funding priorities and to plan in partnership for a sustainable future. Gosford Council plans to undertake a community engagement process to facilitate these discussions over the next 18 months. A discussion regarding the funding of the Landing and associated infrastructure is also required as the need for the new infrastructure must be incorporated into the Community Strategic Planning process under IPR and reflected in the services provided by Gosford Council. Clubs meet over new technology number of Central Coast clubs attended a meeting held in The Entrance by ClubsNSW on Wednesday, November 2, to discuss the new controversial pokie technology being supported by Tasmanian Independent MP Andrew Wilkie.

Gosford RSL was among the 50 local clubs who attended the meeting. A trial of the experimental pokie technology was first recommended by the Productivity Commission 16 months ago and is also supported by the Salvation Army (Eastern Territory), Lifeline, and many of
Australia’s leading gambling researchers. Local Federal MPs Jill Hall, Deborah O’Neill and Craig Thomson have publicly stated that they would support Gillard’s reforms. ClubsNSW CEO Anthony Ball spoke at the meeting and assisted clubs with the next stage of the campaign
against the poker machine reform. ‘’Mandatory precommitment would cost local clubs $61 million to install. “The flow on effects will see a dire result for local clubs and the entire community. “For the sake of clubs and the local communities they support, the Federal

Minister Hartcher said Legacy had made a significant contribution to the families of veterans, including his own. “Legacy is a great institution and Brisbane Water Legacy has made a wonderful contribution to the lives of thousands of Central Coast residents,” Mr Hartcher said. Mr Hartcher told the Parliament the story of his grandfather, who was killed in action during World War I. “While the Germans were
making preparations for their final Kaiser Offensive, my grandfather, Captain Benjamin Brody, led a raiding party from the Allied side to seize prisoners and to try to ascertain the extent of German preparations and the timing of the offensive. “As the raiding party returned to the allied trenches a German stick grenade was thrown, and Captain Brody was seriously and eventually mortally wounded,” said
minister Hartcher. He recounted the support Legacy had given to his own family after his grandfather’s death. “My mother’s education at Catholic schools was paid for by Legacy. “When my mother left school, Legacy organised a job for her in the NSW railway system under the statutory requirements at the time that required all public service agencies to give preference

to the dependents of exservicemen or women who had been killed in the Great War. “When I became a solicitor on the Central Coast I became the honorary solicitor for Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy, and I met many of the people who were dependants, widows and families of Australian servicemen in the First World War, in the Second World War and, as the Vietnam War continued, in the Vietnam War. “Legacy has made a great contribution to the cultural development of our nation in that it symbolises not just the spirit of those who served in the great wars but the spirit of the community at home,” Mr Hartcher told the Parliament. Mr Hartcher welcomed ongoing support for Legacy from his Parliamentary colleagues member for The Entrance Mr Chris Spence and member for Gosford Mr Chris Holstein who also attended anniversary celebrations. Water restrictions eased
Australia Post extends hours

osford’s Australia Post will be one of an initial 100 metro and regional locations to operate for extended hours which would allow customers to collect their parcels at a time that suits
them.
Australia Post managing director and CEO Mr Ahmed Fahour said it would be one of the most significant changes to Australia Post’s parcel operations in its 200 year history. The introduction of extended hour locations is just one of a range of new services that would make it easier for customers to
take advantage of the online shopping boom. Other initiatives would include access to parcel lockers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and email and SMS notifications when a customer’s parcel arrives. The introduction of flat rate pricing would enable customers to know their
postage costs upfront, and would make posting an item easy and affordable for Australians across the country. Local residents and businesses will be some of the first in the country to receive the new services, with extended hours parcel pick-up in Gosford available from early next year.
“The new measures are additions to existing parcel services and come in response to a 10.9 per cent increase in parcel volumes over the financial year, a figure which can be directly linked to Australians taking up online shopping in record numbers,” said Mr Fahour. Residents protest chicken farm esidents of Somersby have lodged a petition with Council that raised concerns regarding a chicken farm at Elwins Rd, Somersby.
R
Gosford Council received the petition with 384 signatures which raised issues of public health, environmental pollution and possible breaches of Development Consent for the chicken farm. Petitioners were
concerned that the possible breaches of the Development Consent could lead to contamination of Mooney Catchment Creek that runs into the Mooney Mooney Dam. Residents said they were concerned that there were
no screening or vegetation barriers between the sheds and the creek and that chicken feathers were contaminating the creek when shed cleanouts were conducted and chicken litter was removed via trucks from the farm.

The petition also stated that no storm water tanks were in evidence on the site and runoff from the shed roofing appeared to spill directly onto the ground around the sheds which could allow chicken manure to be washed into the watercourse. The petition requested that Council investigate the matters raised as preliminary testing had shown significant increases in phosphorous and ecoli in the water, behind and downstream of the sheds. Testing also showed increased levels of zinc in the soil near the creak. Council Agenda P.34, 1 Nov 2011
Both Gosford and Wyong Councils have endorsed the Gosford-Wyong Councils’ Water Authority Board meeting recommendation to ease restrictions to Level 2 from November 14. The new restrictions mean residents would be able to water their garden with a trigger nozzle hose for an hour a day three times a week, compared to two days on the current Level 3 restrictions. External building surfaces and outdoor furniture can be washed; however, hosing of paths and driveways is still not permitted. Cars can be washed with a bucket or trigger nozzle hose at any time. However, Gosford mayor Cr Laurie Maher reminded residents to remain vigilant with their water use. “It is still important everyone uses common sense and doesn’t waste our water,” Cr Maher said. “Ideally, we want residents to maintain the voluntary daily water use target of 150 litres per person. “The Councils have been busy delivering key elements of WaterPlan 2050 to help the region recover from the recent drought, enhance the current supply system and develop additional water sources,” said Cr Maher. Wyong mayor Cr Bob Graham said the easing of restrictions was a great reward for Central Coast residents. “Everyone in the region has done a tremendous job over the past few years to conserve our precious water,” Mayor Graham said. “The easing of restrictions

is a reward for the effort residents have put in to saving water, considering the critically low levels the dams reached during the drought. “We’ve learnt our lesson from the drought and our community has changed their behaviour when it comes to water use, that’s why they should be rewarded. “The completion of a number of key projects and system upgrades, along with recent rainfall, has helped boost dam levels to a point where we can relax restrictions.” Both mayors pointed to the $120 million Mardi to Mangrove Link as another important factor in easing restrictions. “The Councils have worked hard to make sure our water supply is secured for years to come and the Mardi to Mangrove Link is the greatest engineering feat on the Central Coast in the past 25 years,” Cr Maher said. “But, while the project was constructed, we still had major issues with water security which resulted in tight restrictions for residents.” Level 3 water restrictions have been in place on the Central Coast since June, 2009. At the time, a survey conducted by both Councils showed 67 per cent of residents supported tougher restrictions as a water savings measure. Media Release, 2 Nov 2011 Megan Low, Gosford Council

osford Public School students and staff are expected to take up their new school residence at Henry Kendall High School from the commencement of the 2014 school year.
According to the New Gosford Public School Progress Report, all plans and works are on schedule with the project shifting from the planning phase to the construction phase at the commencement of Term 3. The Progress Report stated that: “To-date a great deal of work has been undertaken by parents, teachers and Department
of Education and Communities personnel to ensure that the new facilities and opportunities for the students of Gosford Public School in 2014 and beyond are the absolute best they can possibly be.” “The new facilities will be far superior to the current facilities.” The facilities in the new school are expected to
include 22 classrooms, a library, four special program rooms, a covered outdoor learning area, canteen, administration and staff facilities, toilets, storage and free play area and a games court. Each classroom in the new school would be approximately 92 m2 compared to the approximate 48m2 of the
existing Gosford Public School classrooms. Nine classrooms built under the BER program would be air conditioned and fitted with interactive white boards. The remaining classrooms would be fitted with the technology access to allow the school’s existing interactive whiteboards to be installed. S
The winning classes are K/1M at Central Mangrove Public School, 3K at Kincumber Public School, K6 KW at The Entrance Public School and K Gold at St Mary’s Primary School, Noraville. Wyong Shire Council director of infrastructure management Mr Greg McDonald said he was pleased with the response to the competition. “This year’s competition attracted entries from across the region with over 20 schools taking part. “We have been impressed
with the imaginative and informative posters from children of all ages. “It has also been encouraging to see how well informed our local school children are about water and the importance of conserving and using it wisely. “These posters were displayed at the MardiMangrove Link community opening and in our libraries to act as a reminder that everyone can play a part in conserving water,” Mr McDonald said. The Councils will be
presenting the winning schools with a range of water education books to the value of $250. Gosford Council director of water and sewer Mr Rod Williams congratulated schools for being involved in such an important issue for our region. “National Water Week is a great opportunity for students and communities to look at what they can do to protect our water catchments and save water in our area. “This year’s Water Week theme focused on
catchment protection and water quality. “The ways in which we live and work with our water catchments has an impact on the quality of water that flows into our waterways and dams. “Somersby and Peats Ridge Public Schools this week took part in a special Watertight school visit to look at how they can protect their local environment, which is part of the Central Coast water supply catchment area,” Mr Williams said. Koolewong local to train in London ixteen year old ballet student Emily McDougall from Koolweong has achieved what so many dancers only dream of, having been accepted into the highly renowned Royal Ballet School in London.
S
The Royal Ballet School is one of the best classical training schools in the world and accepts 15 girls per year from around the globe into its world class programme. Emily McDougall was the only student accepted from NSW. Emily said her dream is to perform as a principle dancer with The Royal Ballet Company, and she is well on her way of making her dream a reality following her acceptance into the School. However, Emily’s next challenge is to find sponsorship to assist with the tuition fees of ÂŁ35,000, which is more than $50,000. “We are so proud of her and what she has achieved so far, and we are hoping that through support of the local community we can get Emily to London,â€? said her mother, Kerry. Coast Artists recognised he achievements of four young Central Coast artists have recently been acknowledged with their artworks exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW.
T
The four artists, Ava Oteiwi of Chertsey Public School, Matthew Miller – Csapo of Gosford Public School, Ilya Lidgard of Wamberal Public School and Lilia Jackson of Narara Valley High School, had entered Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and in association with the NSW Department of Education and Communities. The program encourages young people to create artworks for children in hospital. Operation Art is a way of involving young people in the special work of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead - a total healing environment where design, decoration, facilities, gardens and art combine with the best possible medical care to help heal all the patients. On Tuesday, October 18, the Operation Art exhibition was officially opened at the Art Gallery of NSW with children, parents, principals
and teachers attending from throughout NSW. As part of the opening ceremony, Lilia Jackson from Narara Valley High School spoke about her experiences as both a patient of the Children Hospital at Westmead and as an artist whose artworks hangs on the wall of the hospital. This year, 769 artworks were submitted to Operation Art by school students from all around NSW. Fifty of the artworks were recently selected to be hung on the walls of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and have now formed an art exhibition which will travel some of the regional Art Galleries of NSW. The Gosford Regional Art Gallery will host the Operation Art touring exhibition for the very first time in 2012. Media release, 25 Oct 2011 Gary Jackson, Central Coast P and C

John Waters and Stewart D’Arrietta took to the small stage at the Tilbury Hotel in Woolloomooloo, Sydney in 1992, with their debut production of Looking Through A Glass Onion. What was an initially a one week booking quickly sold out and extended into a six week, sell out season. Fast forward 20 years, and after many successful
and sold out Glass Onion tours, John and Stewart have decided to return to their up close and personal intimate two man show tour commencing in January next year. “It began its life as a small venue piece with just Stewart D’Arrietta and myself on stage at the Tilbury Hotel in Sydney,” said John. “I made my entrance from a kitchen and climbed over patron’s laps to scramble onto a tiny raised platform in the corner of the room. “The audience and I were inescapably intimate with each other from the very start, and I kinda like that. “Not every venue we play this time around can be exactly like that, but it’s the feeling I want to create – to take the show back to its roots. “This is a last chance opportunity for regional Australia to see this show as we’ll be taking it to Broadway in New York in 2013 and are in discussion with Yoko Ono on aspects of the New York shows,” he said. Nicoll lost first place to Shannon Pkuhowsky from the US who stepped in at the last minute to replace injured bowler Lynda Barnes, also from the US. Sandra Andersson of Sweden placed second in the tournament. “Lexi played superbly throughout the AMF Australian Masters Tournament in the face of fierce international
competition” said AMF Bowling CEO Mr Jordan Rodgers. “This event is an important opportunity for our local bowlers to compete on a global stage and to raise the prestige of tenpin bowling as a competitive sport,” said Mr Rodgers. The tournament offered over $100,000 in prize money and has been
named one of eight major international tenpin bowling tournaments globally to form the World Bowling Tour for 2011, attracting elite athletes from around the world to Australian shores. Media Release, 27 Oct 2011 Katie Moine, Avviso Public Relations

Jack Booker was sponsored by CCROC to the NSW Country Junior Rugby Union U18 Tour, which will be held in Spain from Thursday, November 24. Jack’s commendable performance at the Country Championships has seen him selected as captain of the team. A joint initiative of Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils, CCROC
his year’s Kings of the Coast (KOTC) surfing event will be held at MacMasters Beach on Saturday, November 19.
The Kings of the Coast is a team surfing event, started by the MacMasters Own Boardriders (MOB) and is now into its sixth year. “This is a huge event for all Central Coast boarding clubs,” said MOB surfer and organiser of KOTC Jeremy Cohen. “Anyone who has competed in or watched a KOTC before would know how competitive and intense the rivalries are between the clubs on the day. “However, despite the rivalry and pressure, it’s still a really fun day and, after the surfing has finished, all the clubs mingle and have a laugh at the day’s competition...and comedy. “There’s always some
funny stuff going down at the KOTC,” said Jeremy. The competition involves the MOB, Avoca, Wamberal, North Shelly, Forresters and Tea-Tree Boardriders clubs. Each club enters four teams of five surfers in the four different age finals. Points are awarded and accumulated after each final and the club with the highest points after all four finals is crowned Kings of the Coast. Each year, clubs try to out-do each other by being the loudest and most supported club. “I’d have to say that every year so far the MOB has definitely been the loudest and a lot of the time also the most supported in terms
of spectators out of all the clubs even at other club’s beaches,” said Jeremy. “This year, we should dwarf the other clubs seeing as it’s in our own back yard. “We pretty much expect to see our whole club down there at Macs on the 19th, yelling and cheering for the MOB surfers. “Believe me, the clubs that give out the loudest cheers for their surfers often get a bit of bonus points from the judges through the sheer excitement factor, it makes a difference,” he said. Dale Gribble of Niagara Park was awarded the Senior Bronze, as was Joshua McDonald of Narara. “At only 70kg, Dale’s start up after a three year break was a big challenge by entering the Men Open weight category,” said Kido Mingara Judo Academy coaching director Peter Acciari. “He found that his technique needed some more refining against the
heavies; he had the speed and strength but could only make his seoi work on some settling for a third placing,” he said. “For a first timer on the big mat, [Joshua McDonald] had to compete against a DAN which became a real learning curve,” said Acciari.

A knee injury cruelled Ryan’s chances of a place in the Qantas Young Socceroos squad for the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup held in Colombia, however having now returned to full fitness, Ryan is set for another stellar year at club level.

Mathew Ryan named U20 2011 Footballer of the Year
entral Coast hotshot Sean McLellan was the standout performer at the 2011 Honda/ Tumut Motorcycle Accessories A u s t r a l i a n Junior Dirt Track Championships meeting staged at Somersby on the weekend of October 30 – 31, winning all three of his classes of racing.
C
Ten other riders claimed an individual victory at the end of a weekend of highquality racing action, four of them adding minor placings to their victory, but none got close to matching the efforts of McLellan. For a number of riders, the championship marked the end of their junior racing days and none signed off in a more stunning manner than McLellan who will focus on speedway racing from later this month. It was not all plain sailing for McLellan, who top scored in the heats in one class, he was second in the others and had to work hard and have some luck go his way in the finals. But he was good enough and close enough to take advantage of the breaks that came his way. In the final of the MX
Sean Mclellan, Australian Junior Dirt Track Champion and slider class, there were two restarts before Queenslander Zachary Levy fell leaving McLellan in front, in the 100 -150cc 2 stroke class McLellan was supreme, winning all his heats and the final, while in the 200 – 250cc 4-stroke class, it took McLellan half of the 6 lap final to overtake West Wyalong rider Hunter Anderson who had top scored in the heat races of two classes.
While Anderson will get another crack at the juniors next year, Tumut based rider Brayden Elliott also signed off from the juniors with deserved rostrum places in two of the classes. There were also some farewells in the girl’s classes, as several will now move into senior competition. Mackenzie Tricker, an accomplished motocrosser, again got rewarded for an infrequent outing on the dirt
tracks with an unbeaten run to take out the 4-stroke class ahead of Sally Smith, the latter also finishing runnerup to Tayla Jones in the other girl’s class. Tricker was also delighted with her effort in the MX and Slider class where she won the repechage race and then finished a creditable fifth in the final behind McLellan. Besides the two girl’s classes, three of the open classes were also decided

over five rounds, but none of the winners could match Tricker’s clean-sweep. Caleb Clifton emerged on top in the 65cc 7 – U9 years class when Caleb Porter fell in the last round and was relegated to third overall, while the victories by Max Whale (85cc 4-str. Modified 7 – U10 years class) and Max Croker (85cc 4-str. Modified 10– U14 years class) were both only resolved in the final round.
Mitchell Cluff (85cc 2 str. / 150cc 4-str. Std. Wheel 9 – U / 11 years class), Zaine Kennedy (85cc 2-str. / 150cc 4-str. Big Wheel 11 – U/13 yrs class) and Ben Cook (85cc 2-str. / 150cc 4-str. Std. & Big Wheel 13 – U/16 years class) all won finals after having been top scorers in the heats. The closest points battle after the heats was in the 65cc 9 – U13 years class and fittingly it produced a close final with Broc Pearson triumphant. Remy Gardner showed that he had not forgotten how to ride the dirt and proved that standings after the heats can be inconsequential as he was only the fifth top scorer, but won the final of the 85cc 2-str./ 150cc 4-str. Std. Wheel 11 – U13yrs class ahead of the two riders who had been equal top scorers. As another rider who has performed with great distinction in European road racing these past two years, Matthew Davies also looked set for a successful return to the dirt before a fall sidelined him with an ankle injury. Unfortunately that was one of several incidents where riders were injured chasing national championship glory, but hopefully all will be back in action soon.

“This is a great example of how we at St Philip’s Christian College Gosford are able to provide for a wide variety of sporting interests and allow students to progress through to compete at a National level, despite being classed as a small school,” said head of
middle school Mr Stephen Babbage. “I often say, the advantage of a small school is that if you try out for the team, there is a much better chance you will make the team than in a larger school. “Congratulations to Georgia for her outstanding
effort at this level. “We will continue to support her as she continues to train and compete throughout her schooling,” said Mr Babbage. Newsletter, 28 Oct 2011 Michelle Kelly, St Philips Christian College
The Strategy aims to help protect the condition of Council sports grounds and provide guidelines on sustainable usage practices and suitability of use in all weather conditions. The strategy was initially instigated in 2006 as a joint initiative of both Councils to determine the most effective way to address the issues related to adverse weather conditions with particular reference to water restrictions and the inability to irrigate sports grounds. Local sporting bodies were presented with information at a community consultation meeting held on July 27 this year regarding the updated
Strategy. Council Officers also presented the information to Gosford City Sports Council on August 4 and sought their comments as part of the most recent review. Sporting Clubs and Associations were then provided with a 28 day submission period which ended on September 6 to provide feedback on the updated strategy. Council received one submission from the Central Coast Football Association on behalf of East Gosford Football Club requesting further information regarding sporting groups’ risk management responsibilities.
The adoption of the reviewed SMS would provide Council, sporting clubs, associations and school groups with clear guidelines for determining the suitability of Council playing fields in all weather conditions. In addition sporting groups, school groups and the general community would be aware of the process undertaken and all the factors that have been considered when ground usage becomes limited or eliminated altogether. Speed skaters succeed in nationals entral Coast speed skaters turned in solid performances at the recent National championships, in the senior men’s competition, along with promising results in both the junior ladies and subjunior men’s competitions.
C
The highlight of the senior men’s results was former Green Point resident Noah Essaghir’s third placing overall, which included a time of 43.89sec for the 500m, the fastest time so far over the half-kilometer distance for the Australian season. Nate Henry of North Avoca will return to the IceHouse arena in February after he qualified for the World Junior Championships. It will be the first time
that an Australian venue hosts the prestigious event, where skaters from over thirty-five countries will be competing for international gold medals. Henry qualified for selection on the Australian team after he achieved sixth place in the senior men’s national competition, with personal best times in both the 500m and 1500m races. In the junior categories, Central Coast Academy of Sport skaters also featured well.
Sam Henry gained seventh place overall in his sub-junior men’s category, while Taryn Henry was good enough to take out the overall Australian championship in the junior ladies competition. The World Junior Championships will be held in Melbourne from February 24-26, 2012. Media Release, 27 Oct 2011 Warwick Whitmore, CCAS
