Every time I visit the ruins, it feels so surreal.

I first heard about the Sutro Baths in my Segment 3 course class called San Francisco. In that class, I have learned about the fascinating history of San Francisco in where my professor went through each time period, showcasing the history, and attractions, which was once there. Out of all the particular topics we have covered in class, I was most captivated and intrigued by the Sutro Baths. The Sutro Baths was
a place that provided an educational and engaging recreational environment to many San Franciscans. At the time, I was interested in the fact that it was a giant pool complex that incorporated marine studies and natural history.

Whenever I head towards a particular place alone, I get a sense of serenity and calmness, as I am able to relax and get away from all the stress of the world. I always believe it is very important for me to have those moments to myself because it allows me to see the world in a different perspective. Once parked, I head down towards the second pathway along the Lands End informational signage. As I walk closer to the pathway, I notice a vast amount of visitors all over the ruins. I started my way down the path.

I am always infatuated by the view the Sutro Baths provided. I remember while doing my interviews with the visitors; one of the reoccurring answers is that majority of the visitors love the view of the Sutro Baths. Sutro Baths provides a one of a kind view of the coast. It is usually the spot to be when it is a rare sunny day in San Francisco. The clash of the ruins along with the beautiful view of the ocean and sky provides an astonishing and mesmerizing view.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and see the time; its 7:38 pm. It was probably one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. The fluidly of the orange, yellow, purple, red and green as they blending together so smoothly, its beautiful. I start to head back up the pathway to my car.

As I reflect on the soil of what was once San Francisco’s biggest attraction in the late 1800’s and mid 1900’s, I cannot imagine now that it is a decrepit site of San Francisco’s forgotten history. The reason why I choose this particular site is because of its rich history, attractions and culture it provided for its visitors. The Sutro Baths was one of a kind of its own. I do not believe there was any other attraction like it in the world.
