Tips to Managing Stress

Culled from America Psycological Association Journal (April, 2015).

S

tress occurs when you perceive that demands placed on you at work or in a relationship — exceed your ability to cope. An extreme amount of stress can have health consequences, affecting the immune, cardiovascular and neuroendocrine and central nervous systems, and take a severe emotional toll. Below are 5 tips to help you cope : 1. Take a break from the stressor if possible. 2. Smile and laugh because brains are interconnected with emotions and facial expressions, laughs and smiles can reduce tensions and improve situations. 3. Meditation and mindful prayer help the mind and body to relax and focus. 4. Regular exercise routine is good in the long term, but even a 20-minute walk may just be all you require in the midst of a stressful time. 5. Call a trusted friend or send an SMS. When you share your concerns or feelings with another person, it does help relieve stress.

United. Connected. Committed.
