SYDNEY BIOMEDICAL ACCELERATOR Industry Work Experience w/ Denton Corker Marshall: Having been on this project for a majority of my industry work career thus far, the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA) has progressed from the initial competition stage through to schematic design and now finalising design documentation to be sent out for tender, where my responsibilities lie in the understanding of structural implications as well as the production of all structural drawings such as concrete setout plans, structural core plans and sections, whilst also dabbling into the services, interiors and facade elements of the project. I am constantly coordinating with our partner health architects, HDR, structural engineering consultants, Mott MacDonald and the Client, University of Sydney on various aspects to ensure that the project runs along smoothly to facilitate in the construction of a future icon for the University of Sydney.

NARRE WARREN TRAIN STATION Industry Work Experience w/ Denton Corker Marshall: The Narre Warren Train Station on Webb Street is part of Victoria’s Big Build Level Crossing Removal Project, an infrastructure project where I was given the opportunity to be hands on and design the parametric facade panels as I was onboarded onto the project during the Tender Out-turn Costing (TOC) phase, alongside many other infrastructure projects in which I am not allowed to disclose any of the works due to governmental confidentiality purposes. Attached are some preliminary stills and animation walkthroughs that have been shared to the public.

WESTERN HARBOUR TUNNEL Industry Work Experience w/ Denton Corker Marshall: The Western Harbour Tunnel was part of an infrastructure project that embraced nature’s gifts, referencing urban design themes from the sky to the eel dreaming country that the project sat on. The proposed design response was to provide a distinctive motorway experience that connects journeys from the Parramatta River’s surroundings to Northern Sydney’s CBD and suburbs, where my duties lied in the conceptual design and documentation of the multiple built elements such as the Cammeray mainline daylight portal and ventilation facilities including a new build ventilation building.

‘Recipe For Redemption’ is a gesture towards the rejuvenation of Chinatown, also known as Petaling Street, in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This has been undertaken through the actions of an architectural performance, where the entire site is reinterpreted as an opera stage and in doing so seeks to give back to place and to its significant history as the catalyst for the introduction of the Chinese community into Malaysia. The aim is for there to never be a curtain call on Petaling Street, and for this architecture to become a container that is a utilitarian counterpart in its application of existing cultural heritage to inspire a new design language in the revitalisation of Malaysia’s premise of being a multi-cultural country, indeed the reason I call myself a Malaysian today.

Grand Delusions formally occupies a digital model of 46 Little La Trobe Street. A replica of the physical walls that were home to the Melbourne architecture practice Edmond and Corrigan. The office is an excuse for a series of thought experiences on heritage, and has become the window through which we consider our relationship to heritage, and how we contribute to it through the medium of architecture.

GRAND DELUSIONS Murano Glass Light - Joel Hiller & Dan Jerinel Bay

Dining Chair - Georgia Rumble & Joshua De Matteo

HERITAGE THROUGH BIAS Heritage to me is not about the physical entities, but the ideas set out by us as students against the given precedents as well as 46 Little LaTrobe Street. The proposals chosen revolve around the articulation of the original building being masked and dispersed to become the product we wanted it to become through a series of furnishings that we have created. As seen within the Cabinet Salon for one with Jennifer Chen, we interpretated an occupiable façade portraying curiosity that is masked through the familiarity of joinery. The provoked elements apologizes to the original through mimicry and are transformed into the opposition to their supposed function, with the wall exposing the opposite side of the salon to create a duality in functions.

Viljoen’s Toilet - Justin Chong & Angus White

Drink Stand - James Rumanovsky & Jean Viljoen

Bachelor’s Kitchen - Kari Vitalich & Stephanie Griffin

The Repository with Kari Vitalich is similar where it was a consequence of the pickings of individual furniture from each group within the class to find purpose in a new environment, acting as catalysts for a collection that situates itself within an abundance of redundancies to hold on to the experience of place. My memory of the object and someone else’s experience is often times distinguishable until they are placed side by side. In reality they are just from a series of different points of views, where we as the occupier can only see what we want to see within our proximity.

Shower - Sally-Anna Ciantar & Jennifer Chen

Docklands is currently an insignificant town with infinite interpretations, rich in history and ambition, but lacking in awareness. Common Ground acts as as a vehicle to seek out architectural possibilities - generating experimental propositions and prototypical spatial and formal models for tertiary learning environments for the development of RMIT’s contribution to the Docklands Media Precinct.

COMMON GROUND This proposition is developed with the ideology of a spillage of boundaries as well as a gradation of publicness in mind. The educational precinct should no longer be considered a singular object, but more so a singular entity with its surroundings, bounded by the suburb of Docklands as well as its history. The learning environment is a synergy between the interior and exterior, a blurred boundary between education and civic, from the surface of the envolope through to the entire fabric.

Necropolis 2.0 questioned the cemetery typology at a buildable scale. It looks at how we consider the role of making / structure to inform the manner that we consider the role and evolution of the cemetery as a built outcome. How does it evolve? How does it inform the way we read place? How is the role of landscape considered? How do we consider the cemetery as a structure? The cemetery is a structure which may define a perimeter, a structure that may embed itself within an existing condition.

NECROPOLIS 2.0 The cemetery is a space that grows within its own boundary, a space that spreads outwards within its allocated site (Flagstaff Gardens), which in its own right is situated within a hustling city context, but keeping to a rule of restriction. It is a place of remembrance, without being fearful of what is perceived as the end. It is filled with significance as well as being a new interpretation of death in a positive and rewarding way, and is designed with the intention of death never being the end of the life cycle. The cemetery will create for the future, yet leave a lasting impression of the past.

CREATIVE ENDEAVOURS 2017 - Current Other than architecture, I’ve always had a passion for the creative arts, taking pride in my willingness to explore different modes of designing and making to expand my horizons to becoming a jack of all trades with the sole goal of becoming a one-stop-shop for future Clients where all their design requirements and services can be provided. I’ve dwelled into all sorts of mediums from starting my own custom emboridery apparel business, freelance photography, digital illustrations, logo design and even 3D-visualising, utillising the skills I’ve learnt in architecture school to create more than ever before.
