Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to create multiple deliverables based on a researched topic for investigation. We were asked to do research on a chosen topic that could influence our target audience in a visually interesting way. It culminated into a project with 3 varied deliverables; a poster series, magazine, website and mobile app.
US Mosaic was meant to influence parents and teachers to teach children the importance of cultural diversity in the United States. I hopefully achieved this by combining the use of red, white, blue in different geometric shapes against a condensed sans serif typeface. I used a clean white background for the digital deliverables and used the primary colors for headers and sidebars. I was also very detailed in the amount of information I included on the website, while only including a subtle amount of text on the posters to give a nice contrast across each deliverable.

After plenty of early exploration, I came up with the title “The US Mosaic” to describe the many different types of people in the world. It’s meant to encourage the teaching of different cultures and their ways of life. A mosaic is made up of different sizes, shapes, and colored glass, just like the American people are made up of different backgrounds and ethnicities.

The use of geometric shapes was intended to lead your eye around the poster. It’s contrasted with the condensed sans serif typeface and bold colors.

After trying out many variations of typefaces, colors, images, and shapes, I felt that using the American “red, white, and blue” was the best choice to go with a simple sans serif typeface. It’s relatable across a variety of audiences and can be easily translated in different languages if needed.

Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to create multiple deliverables for a small art gallery that could benefit from a better designed visual system. It culminated into a project with many different types of deliverables; a poster series, exhibit booklet, postcard, and a new branded environment inside the gallery.
The artist on display at the Ian Tan Art Gallery Vancouver was an abstract artist that still had a sense of organization and control. I tried to portray a clean and modest look across every deliverable to influence tourists and young college students in the area to visit the gallery. The color palette is simple with a sans serif typeface that contrasts well with the vibrancy and movement of the current artist’s work. I paid close attention to every detail and made sure that the formats of each deliverable were interchangeable with any upcoming artist on display.

The colors chosen for the text and iconography were taken directly from one of the artist’s work It is a method that can be used for any artist the gallery is showcasing. The geometric shapes are used to counter the abstract nature of this specific artist’s paintings. They may or may not be used in future deliverables.

I created a brochure cover that is versatile enough to have a future artist’s work completely filling the spread. The white text box has 50% opacity that won’t overpower the design.

Each artist statement on the wall is easily replaceable with a left justified text and a portrait. There should always be a quote to the right of the image that expresses the underlying message of their work. Their name will always be above the image in a legible sans serif typeface in all caps.

Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to create a series of 9 typographic posters that represented the color blue. Each poster consists of a type experiment that represents the idea of “Blue” in a unique and visual way.
I explored different digital and physical experiments to achieve a diverse range of poster designs. Although some concepts may be very specific to only a few people familiar with them, I chose each one based on my personal experiences and attachments to them.

Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to redesign a local movie theater’s digital presence. I was tasked to do research on competitor’s, target audiences, and propose design solutions based on moodboards and a style sheet. These important findings helped produce a website and mobile app.
I initially created a site map that helped with navigation features and website building. Once I figured out the pages that were going to be included, personas and scenarios were created to further my design ideas. Using research and visual inspiration helped me finalize a modern looking website with bold red navigation and black backgrounds.

Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to design a chapbook based entirely on a podcast of our choosing. I was tasked with using its’ transcript as the writing in the book and creating a consistent visual system that matched the tone and subject matter in a visually appealing way.
I found a podcast that was slightly sombre in subject matter, but great for the type of imagery I was looking to include in the book. It discusses the racism and discrimination that occurred in a Starbucks a few years ago, and how juvenile prisoners going to a high school in New Orleans look at their futures even though most of them are serving adult sentences. The use of a dark gray background contrasts well with the yellow and black display type on the cover and chapter openers. I also used primarily black and white images to evoke strong emotions in the reader and give a sense of the injustice still going on in the United States.

Sketches & Early Book Layouts
I went through plenty of variations for the cover by finding images that evoked feelings of separation, frustration, optimism, and unity. I thought of these keywords after reading the transcript. Slicing the title shows the separation of the inmates from society, while adding the light yellow color to “teachable”, expresses the optimism they have with getting their high school diploma and being unified with the world.

Palm Company Rebrand

Project Description
Project Concept
The objective of this project was to revamp a dying brand in a logical and visually interesting way. I was tasked with creating a brand timeline, mission statement, brand soul, repositioning statement, new logo, and much more. This culminated into a Brand Strategy Book, Brand Guidelines Book, and a functioning website to interact with a lot of the information.
The company I chose was the familiar Palm, Inc. I renamed it Palm, which most people acknowledged it as anyways. The Brand Strategy Book contains the history and company research that lead to the development of the logo, which was the final piece in creating a successful Guidelines Book and corresponding website. The teal, white, and gray color palette gives this brand the light and modern feel I was going for to express Palm’s new mission of connecting people with what’s most important in a subtle but meaningful way.

After creating many sketches and keywords to describe the direction I wanted Palm to go, I finally developed a logo that I felt was simple and clean enough to convey the message I wanted. The company motto was to be inclusive, diverse, and have multiple branches, like a tree. It was also legible enough to be understood in a variety of colors and on different colored backgrounds.

The logo represents the idea of connection and data management that Palm strives for with its’ products. The use of a sans serif typeface shows the modern and approachable look Palm is trying to achieve with its’ rebrand. The thinness of the lines make it clean and sleek so it can appeal to a varitey of consumers. Each of the five circles represent every person that uses Palm’s service to connect with each other, as well as their information in the cloud. The “l” in Palm represent the connection we have to each of you and how we will make sure you stay connected with what’s most important.
The logo can be applied as either a wordmark or brand mark, depending on the application. The original teal logo should be applied as much as possible, while still following application guidelines. All other colors in the color palette should only be used if the original logo clashes with the product or image it is being applied to.

The primary focus of Palm is to bring people and their digital information together as seamlessly and effortlessly as possible. The primary applications would include digital products such as a mobile application with easy data sharing capabilities for families or other close knit groups of people, marketing for Palm to get noticed by new consumers, and a corporate cloud service that will be able to handle large scale data needs along with small companies who just need help easily accessing and organizing small amounts of information.

Project Description The objective of this project was to format botanical texts and images in 4 different book variations. I received a 3 page pdf file of text and a folder with 23 images that needed to be placed in the books. I was taught to use grids and basic typesetting rules to create different feelings for the reader. My overall objective was to convey simplicity and legibility, Since it was a botanical research project, I wanted the text to be a sans serif typeface that was easily understood.
