The varied applications of current transformers The type of electrical instrument which is made to produce flow of current in secondary circuit just the perpendicular to the current flowing in the primary circuit is termed as current transformer. Such a transformer is used extensively to measure current and checks the operation of power grid current transformers. It is defined by ratio of current from primary to secondary. Current transformers are used widely in metering, protective relaying in electrical power industry where the transformer facilitates the requirement of huge currents safely in the presence of high voltage in circuit. It safely isolates to measure and control circuitry from high voltages present in circuit which is being calculated. How to maintain current transformers? Current transformer is maintained by passing singular primary turn under the well-insulated toroidal core. Several turns of wire is wrapped under toroidal core. It is employed for measuring flow of current and also to monitor operation of power used. The transformer is mainly defined by current ratio that flows from primary to secondary. What improves the accuracy of current transformers? The accuracy of transformer is improved by load, rating factor, burden, electromagnetic fields, transformer configuration and the temperature. However, impedance can cause a burden upon a current transformer circuit. Some of the basic items for burden in a current measurement circuit are intermediate conductors, switch block meters and the sources act as a conductor between the meter and current transformer. The rating factor of the transformer is dependent upon ambient temperature that is used to determine absolute primary measurable current by simply multiplying the full load over the current transformer.
