Birthplace of the diesel engine commissioner of Pei, Saarinen, Venturi, Kiley, streets packed on a Saturday, smaller than Ames. I excavated earth placed history below community above threaded them together with light and view.

We couldn’t get out from our heads the raw concrete, pure forms, the mystical power of Louis Kahn at Yale. We used warm wood rough steel cool concrete glowing fabric and massive doors. A construct to touch, to feel the weight of material against body.

We wandered through the city like lines from a jazz trumpet meandering, unplanned. The auditorium became an instrument; its walls tune and adjust; its seating shifts shape. We built a framework for improvisation.

eye . ear . nose . skin . skeleton . muscle The seed dryer was shut down leaving testament texture and time. The candles in the crypt fill the room with the smell of wax heat us remind us of the drying air. The white shroud is contrast scaling the body to space, reminding it of gravity pulling down, moving seed and time. We built new worlds of memory and labor.
