PLAZA AV. EL SOL A trip to Peru was to understand the current culture and history of the city and what it needs. The understanding of Peru’s culture and history was obtained by visiting different areas like Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu. The site is located in Cusco, Peru in an area that is busy during the day because of the commercial and of ices and quiet at night. In order to bring pedestrian movement within the area, a mixed use building is proposed on the corner of Av. El Sol & Ayacucho. While proposing a building, a suggestion of materials for the building has to be similar with the existing culture. The building contains an open plaza on the ground loor; an apple store to go along with the other commercial buildings; and six residential units on top that has two loft areas on the north east side. Suggesting material for the building like large stones, concrete painted white, and hard wood looring portrays an idea of both modern and existing materials from the surrounding site to coexist with one another.

THE COASTAL A site located in Downtown Huntington Beach, CA is chosen for an empty lot and the lack of activity down Market St. In order to bring activity to the end of Market St, an iconic building that inhabits a restaurant and a gym is to act as a gateway to downtown. One of the restrictions for this project is to use Revit and Showcase/ Lumion. Other software such as AutoCAD or Rhino was prohibited unless Grasshopper was being use for the design purpose. In addition, structure and passive & active systems had to be designed within the building.

COALESCE An urban project located in Watts, CA is named Coalesce, which means the uni ication of four neighborhoods through transportation, business incubation, economic growth, and community programs. Before the propose layout, the site seemed to be divided by the industrial railroad, Compton Creek, and Central Avenue. In order to break up the dividers, nodes were placed around the site to unify the neighborhoods as one. Each node focuses on different areas: retail and business incubation (Node A); a corporate campus with a public park and an amphitheater (Node B); an urban street design on Central Avenue along with a skate park in the creek (Node C).

BOUTIQUE HOTEL A given dress was analyzed through its sewing structure, patterns, and symmetry. Recreating the patterns through paper models was to understand how the methodology works. Through the various study models, research of a precedent (Danish Pavilion by BIG) gave an in luence on the project’s design. By combining the textile studies and precedent, this gave the overall design form and the exterior skin. By doing this, it gave an understanding of how textile can be used to form a design and architecture. Site: Glendale Blvd & Brier Ave Los Angeles, CA Lot: 0.30 acres
