PROJECT DESCRIPTION
To design a 4-star luxury boutique hotel that relates to the culture of the city of Tokyo. The hotel will be a “luxury” space designed to accomodate business as well as vacation travelers.
HOTEL DESIGN
TOKYO DESIGN CONCEPT
Tokyo is the city where you can easily get lost. It is chaotic, driven by speed and light. Reflecting glass and steel, combined with an intensity of colors, makes you feel surreal and overwhelmed. Everything becomes somehow blurry and serene. The concept for the design is to combine all the dynamic aspects of the city with its melancholic and spiritual tradition, to show “the blurry” side of Tokyo. The designed space will become a “cherry blossom and white lotus scented” shelter, an echo of Tokyo behind the closed door.

TOKYO DESIGN CONCEPT
The concept for the design is to combine all the dynamic aspects of the city with its melancholic and spiritual tradition, to show “the blurry” side of Tokyo. The designed space will become a “cherry blossom scented” shelter, an echo of Tokyo behind the closed door. The hotel’s signature restaurant will have all the aspects of the hotel design but with a darker, more sensual feel. It will resemble Tokyo at night with its mysterious shadows and sparkly city lights.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
To design a 400 sq.ft studio apartment in the currently vacant Rosenwald Homes which are located in Bronzeville - one of Chicago’s historical South Side neighborhoods.
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
CHICAGO DESIGN CONCEPT
The inspiration for the design is Gwendolyn Brooks’s poem Kitchenette Building. Brooks is a native of Bronzeville, thus connecting her work with the location. In her poem she introduces us to the idea of the dream the we all have. She uses the poetic technique known as realism, and expresses our dreams through her words. The design is focused on changes and how our dreams morph into reality. The furniture pieces are transitional and very functional for the small space. The overall design is inspired by Bronzeville’s architectural details like glass block windows and fire escapes.

CHICAGO DESIGN CONCEPT
The concept for the design is Fire and Ice, two powerful forces that in the process help to create a third one: Steel. The concept is to create a harmonious space that includes steel components which are a major part of the lines of furniture that Henricksen is representing, combined with fire and ice elements to enhance the elegant and timeless feel of the space. Ice walls and red hues combine with steel to realize this concept.
