Prologue

The curriculum of school of Architecture's in University of Seoul School of Architecture's curriculum is the most strong amongthan any other schoolss.

Because of this reason, some people told me thatthat it's enough to just take whole curriculum, orand the other told it's too tight to do other projects. As a delegentdiligent student, I think I've explored our school's curriculum in and out from 2005 as a freshman to 2011 as a fourth grade student. However, through this, I confirmed the potentiality of our curriculum and saw and learned which the class couldn't give me.

As I became the third and fourth grade student, knowledge of architecture

waswere getting stacked, what I have to learn was getting lager and lager, interesting things were getting bigger and bigger. The architecture field sometimes handled a tiny small artwork and it covered cutting edge technology. It is also about the community we've lived. Whatever I learendlearned was always connected to architecture, wherever I went there was architecture. Sometimes it came to me as an abstract thing so I didn't know how to study it, and sometimes I was very confused what it is. Even though that, because of interests toward architecture makes me keep learning architecurearchitecture.

This portfolio covers elementryelementary design 1, architecture design

4, 5 projects, the project held by UOS with GEP, GFLT Scholarship program and the project during exchange student in Singapore. The projects are about formativeness, structural techonologytechnology, sustainabliitysustainability issues, community and fabrication method. 4years are very short for an architect, but I can say now I know a little about architecture and want to learn more and more.

Thanks to the all the professors of our department for teaching me and all of

the student I studied with. Without them, I think I couldn't make this projects at all.

프롤로그

서울시립대학교 건축학과의 커리큘럼은 그 어느 학교의 것보다도 탄탄하다고 말 할 수 있다. 그 까닭에 혹자는 커리큘럼만 제대로 이수하면 된다 말하고, 또 누군가는 타이트하게 짜여진 커리큘럼 탓에 다른 것을 하지 못한다고 말한다. 학교의 수업을 열심히 이수한 학생으로서, 2005년 1학년의 생활부터 2011년 4학년까지의 생활은 커리큘럼 안과 밖을 자유롭게 돌아다녔다고 생각된다. 하지만, 이를 통해서 학교의 커리큘럼이 갖는 가능성에 대해서 확인할 수 있었고, 학교의 과정이 설명해주지 못하는 것들에 대해서는 직접 보고 느낄 수 있었다. 학년이 올라감에 따라, 건축에 대한 지식이 조금씩 더 쌓이고 배울 것도은 점점 더 많아졌으며, 흥미로워 지는 것은 점점 더 증가하였다. 건축의 영역은 작은 조형물을 만지는 것에서 시작되기도 하였으며, 첨단기술에 관한 것이기도 하였으며, 우리들이 살아가는 공동체에 관한 것이기도 하였다. 무엇을 배워도 그것이 건축과 연결되지 않은 것이 없었고, 어디를 가도 그곳에는 건축이 있었다. 그래서 때로는 종종 어렵고 손에 잡히지 않았으며, 가끔은 무엇을 배우고 있는지 혼동이 되기도 하였다. 그래도 계속 배울 수 있는 힘이 되었던 것은 건축에 대한 흥미와 끌림이 있었기 때문이라고 생각된다.

이 포트폴리오는 1학년 때의 프로젝트, 3학년 때의 프로젝트, 4학년 때의

프로젝트, GEP와 GFLT로 진행된 학교에서의 프로젝트, 그리고 교환학생으로서 싱가폴에서싱가포르에서 보낸 한 학기동안학기 동안 진행된 프로젝트를 포함해 5개의 장으로 구성되어있다. 첫 번째 프로젝트는 조형성에 무게를 두고 있고, 두 번째는 구조기술, 세 번째는 친환경, 네 번째는 커뮤니티 그리고 마지막 프로젝트는 제작방법기술에 관해서 다루고 있다. 건축가로서는 짧은 기간인 4년 동안 배운 작품을 통해서 건축을 조금은 알게 되었고, 더 많이 알고 싶게 되었다.

건축 설계를 지도 해주신 모든 교수님들에게교수님들께 감사의 말씀을

드리며 같이 공부한 선배, 동기, 후배들에게도 고맙다는 말을 전하고 싶다. 같이 공부할 수 있었기에 이런 프로젝트를 할 수 있었다고 생각된다.

거주하는 주민의 이익뿐만 아니라 정부 혹은 기업도 만족하는 결과를 이끌어 낼 수 있다. 하지만 유럽의 성공적인 사례 혹은 실패한 사례를 살펴본 결과, 주민 참여 디자인은 간단히 해결 될 수 있는 문제가 아니며, 많은 사람들의 의견을 모으기 위해서 많은 노력이 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 중재자의 절대적 필요성, 주민의 의견을 끌어내기 위한 노력, 주민의 본인 공동체에 대한 관심 도출, 공동체 결속력의 강화 등 많은 요소가 주민참여 디자인의 바탕에 있어야 할 것이다. 추가적으로 재미있는 부분으로 우리나라의 경우는 이른바 ‘한솥밥’과 같이 강한 공동체 문화가 이미 존재하고 있기 때문에, 주민 참여 디자인은 유럽에서의 사례와 달리 잘 이행된다면, 더욱 강한 모습으로 한국에 도심 재생에 기여할 것이라고 생각한다. 이러한 방법을 통해, 더 이상 성장 중심의 개발이 아닌 삶의 질을 높일 수 있는 높은 수준의 도시를 이룰 수 있을 것 이라고 생각한다.

Epilogue Architecture itself has lots of power. Cause of this reason, sometimes architecture just shows its aesthetical side.

On the other hand, it is just built with only economical logic. Through this, Ai wei wei's interview makes me think something more.

Architecture should include undesirable situation like rapid development, large scale development and small budget building. I think these are also very important issues of architecture, it isn't usually exposed consciously. (from Ai weiwei speaks) Like he said, an architecture has a lot of things, but sometimes we ignore some points of it intentionally. Architects basically stand on economical basics, so architect's stance is very important. Because of this, publicity, architectural value show architect’s character. However, we don’t have to ignore the economical issues and social problem. As an architecture student, I will not forget what I learned from school, learn from lots of situation, so I will have many sides of the society. Learning from the school will give me possibility on architecture field. As I can learn architecture from every single issue, I should face and focus on all the things.

에필로그 건축은 그 이름 자체만으로도 많은 힘을 담고 있다. 그 탓인지, 종종 건축은 작품주의로 흐르기도 하는 것 같다. 그리고 아주 반대편으로는 모든 것을 잃어버린채잃어버린 채 경제논리에서만 움직이는 경우가 있다고 생각이 든 다. 이런면에서 볼때 아이웨이웨이의 다음 말은 많은 것을 생각하게 한다. 건축에는 고속 개발, 대규모 개발, 저비용 건축 같은 바람직하지 않은 상황도 포함시킬 필요가 있어요. 나는 그런것들이 건축의 중요한 요소라고 보는데, 그것이 늘 의식적으로 드러나지는 않는다고 생각해요.

그의 말 처럼 건축을 모든 것을 포함하고 있으면서도 어떠한 것들은 의식적으로 무시하고 있다는 생각이 든다. 건축가가 기본적으로 경제적인 논리의 바탕위에 존재하기 때문에 건축가의 자세는 상당히 중요 하다고 생각된 다. 공공성이 라든지, 작품성은 그렇기 때문에 건축가의 성향을 보여주는 지표가 되기도 한다. 하지만 그에 대한 이유 때문에 경제적인 논리나 사회상황을 무시하면 안된다고 생각한다. 이제 첫걸음마를 뗀 건축가 학생으로서 앞으로 여러가지의 많은 상황을 배우게 되겠지만, 이러한 상황을 배우면서도 학교에서 배운 많은 것들을 잊지 않 고, 그러면서도 다양한 사회의 단면을 같이 포용할 수 있어야 된다고 생각한다. 학교에서의 배움이 실무로 이어 질 앞으로의 생활이 이러한 가능성을 더 열어줄 것이라고 생각한다. 그 어떤 것을 보아도 건축을 공부 할 수 있듯 이, 건축가로서 주위의 것들에 대해 직시해야 한다고 생각한다. 그 어느 것도 소중하지 않은 것은 없다.
