Safety Some Workforce Education programs require protective clothing and/or safety equipment. It is mandatory that students wear or use this equipment in every hands-on class. This includes safety glasses, which may be purchased in the Workforce Education Office. Eligibility for Workforce Education Programs Registration is open to any adult or student over the age of 16. High school applicants 16 years of age or older may enroll with written permission from parents and school principal or counselor prior to registration for Workforce Education classes. Please note that some programs require a high school diploma and/or application as part of enrollment.

Withdrawal Policy Students may withdraw and receive a refund from a registered class if the request is made in writing two business days prior to the first day of class. A processing fee of $25 applies. Classes are self-supporting; there are no refunds after the first day of class. Refunds will be issued within four weeks of cancellation. Classes Cancelled for Inclement Weather The Workforce Education Division of Auburn Career Center adheres to a school calendar for scheduled holidays. The calendar may be accessed at the school website or by asking for a copy from the Workforce Education Office. Unscheduled school closings will be announced over television stations or online. Our school closing announcements will be listed as Auburn Career Center Workforce Education. Unscheduled class cancellations occur mainly during the winter months. Workforce Education classes do NOT necessarily follow the high school protocols. Students should use their discretion to determine if weather conditions preclude attending class. Students who choose not to attend when Auburn remains open will be counted absent. Textbook and Lab Fees Unless specified, textbook and laboratory fees are not included in the cost of the program. Students may purchase textbooks from the Workforce Education Office. Special delivery charges may apply for book orders placed for students who register later than five days before the class start date. In some classes, students may be required to have their own hand tools and/or uniform. Certification A certificate of completion from Auburn Career Center is awarded to each student who

Policies
Class Cancellations Classes may be cancelled if the minimum enrollment is not met. Auburn’s Workforce Education Program reserves the right to cancel, discontinue, postpone or combine courses before or after the first scheduled class. Students enrolled in a class that is cancelled will be contacted by phone and have the option to transfer to another class or receive a full refund. Refunds will be issued within four weeks. Auburn cannot assume responsibility for any conflict in business or personal affairs that result from class cancellations.
Career Development Programs Registration
Registration for Career Development Programs 1. Call Career Resources at 440-357-7542 ext. 8007 to meet with a career counselor and to schedule a WorkKeys assessment. The assessment cost is $100 which is non-refundable. 2. To finalize registration, complete an application and make payment arrangements with the Workforce Education Office. WorkKeys Assessment Test The WorkKeys assessment is required for all Career Development Programs. The assessment is an evaluation of reading and math skills measuring your skills to the skills necessary to successfully complete the Career Development Programs. Anyone who would like to improve his or her reading and/or math skills may attend the Lifelong Learning Lab free of charge. Payment Options for Career Development Programs Federal Pell Grant – Available for Career Development Programs with a minimum of 600 hours. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 800-544-9750 ext. 8276 for further information. Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Auburn’s school code is 030514. Students who are Pell Grant eligible and verified by the Financial Aid Coordinator, may use the Pell Grant with an additional $500 for their down payment. The student is required to sign a tuition agreement with credit/debit card information and make equal monthly interest-free payments for the balance of the tuition. Pell Grant recipients must attend 90% of scheduled class time to remain eligible for financial aid. Failure to maintain 90% attendance will result in loss of Pell Grant funding and the student will be responsible for the balance of the account. VA Benefits – Some Career Development Programs have been approved by the State of Ohio Approving Agency. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 800-5449750 ext. 8276 for further information. Automatic Payment Plan – To participate in the payment plan, submission of a valid VISA, MasterCard, or Discover must be submitted with a signed Tuition Agreement form. A self-paying student is required to put down one-third of the tuition. Balance is payable in equal monthly interest-free installments due on the 15th of each month. Alternative Energy Integrator
Level One covers four areas: 1. Direct Current 2. Alternating Current 3. Energy Areas: Photovoltaic Wind Micro Hydro Fuel Cells 4. Physics: Chemistry Meteorology Mathematics This program will prepare someone for jobs in the rapidly expanding field of ―GREEN.‖ The cutting edge nature of ―Alternative Energy‖ opens the door to a wide variety of job opportunities in this area. Electricity is still the fundamental control for all forms of energy and is a ―must know‖ in this field. Heavy emphasis is placed on having a good understanding of the basics in Electricity and fundamental Electronic components. New technology and improvement in existing technologies creates a need for a workforce that understands the Physics and Chemistry of how energy is stored, transferred and produced. Fuel cells, and the accompanying technology, are currently part of our local industry and require the understanding of a PEM type fuel cell. Photovoltaic and Wind Energy require a fundamental understanding of Meteorology in order to properly place these devices. The integration of these devices in our everyday lives will steadily increase and will be soon found in homes, cars, and industry. The State of Ohio has targeted Alternative Energy as the number one industry for transforming its workforce. Upon completion of this course you will receive an Auburn Certificate and will be prepared to take the ETA, Alternative Energy Integrator exam. The ETA International organization was founded in 1978 and is a not-for-profit professional association for promoting excellence in electronics technologies through certifications (www.eta-i.org). Automotive Technology Automotive technicians must make quick and accurate diagnoses and possess good reasoning ability and total knowledge of automobiles. Students will gain actual hands-on experience and training in preparation to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification tests. Course is equal to one-half year work experience towards the 2 years needed to take the ASE test. Course includes a 10-hour OSHA Safety Program. Books additional (approx. cost $100). Automotive Collision Repair This program develops skills necessary for repairing and refinishing interior and exterior components of conventional and unitized body vehicles. It covers all aspects of automotive refinishing, collision repair, basic introduction to major collision rebuilding, frame straightening and unibody repair. Learn the basics of metal shrinking, basic oxyfuel and MIG welding, panel replacement, filler applications and rough out methods. Final refinishing procedures include painting, color sanding, machine polishing/buffing and pinstriping. Includes a 10-hour OSHA Safety Program. Books additional (approx. cost $150). Construction
Culinary Arts This course covers the techniques and procedures of quality food production, basic cooking principles, and large and small equipment identification and its use. Course topics include: stocks, sauces, soups, meat, poultry, and seafood cooking techniques; principles of fruit and vegetables, baking and pastry, food service sanitation, first aid techniques, and employability skills. Licensed Practical Nursing Program The program will prepare individuals to specialize in delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in any stage of wellness or illness. LPN graduates will work closely with physicians, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver highly skilled nursing care. As part of our Health Career Pathway partnership with Lakeland Community College, students who complete the program will be able to continue their career pathway education in Lakeland’s twoyear nursing program. The program consists of theory, skill development and patient contact through a variety of clinical experiences. Admission to the program is an application process which is explained at the mandatory Information session. Please call 440-357-7542 ext. 8366 for information. Office Specialist Develop the skills necessary to be an Administrative Professional. Students will master technology, be provided with top-notch interpersonal and communication skills, and learn to manage projects. Topics include: communication and employability skills, office procedures for the 21st century, basic medical terminology, automated accounting and Microsoft Office. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their new skills during a one week internship. Books not included (approx. $250). Paramedic
State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) This Ohio Department of Health certified course prepares individuals for employment in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and home health care. Coursework includes: Basic Nursing Skills, Infection Control, Safety and Emergency Needs, Personal Care Skills, Mental Health and Social Service Needs, Basic Restorative Services and Residents’ Rights. 26-hour clinical experience provides supervised application of skills. At the end of the course, trainees are eligible to take the STNA exam (included in the tuition). Punctuality and attendance are critical for this course. Students cannot miss any time during the first 16-hours of class or any clinical days or they may be withdrawn from the course. Instructors meet all State of Ohio Trainer requirements. Prerequisite: EMT-Basic or Intermediate EMT, CPR Provider. This intensive, 852-hour course is a comprehensive, rigorous State of Ohio accredited program designed to take an EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate to the next level in their EMS or firefighting career. The course integrates online, classroom practical, and clinical experiences to provide refinement of skills learned. Students who successfully complete the program will be able to sit for the National Registry Paramedic exam. The National Registry test fee is not included in the cost of tuition. Successful completion of this exam is necessary for State of Ohio Paramedic certification. The application process includes proof of immunizations, TB skin test, and reading comprehension exam. A physical exam, criminal background check, and drug test must be completed through an approved source at the student’s expense, prior to admission to the program. HCA (Home Health Care) Aide The HCA class is a 15-hour bridge curriculum required for STNA’s to be eligible to take the National Home Care Aide Certification exam. The exam costs $40 additional at the student’s expense. Proof of completion of a 75-hour STNA program must be presented at registration. Prerequisite: Successful pass rate on the STNA exam. This official 132-hour EMT program is accredited by the State of Ohio. This course provides instruction and practice in handling airway obstruction, dealing with cardiac arrest, controlling bleeding, treating shock, immobilizing fractures, assisting with emergency childbirth and giving initial care for burns and poisonings. Learn how to administer oxygen, use backboards, suction devices, splints, and stretchers. You must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid Ohio driver's license. Application process includes proof of vaccination/TB status, BCI background check, and drug screen at student’s expense. Upon completion, you will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam. CPR Instructor This 10-hour American Heart Association CPR Instructor course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to coordinate and teach their own courses. Two letters of reference are required. Students MUST possess a current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider card prior to enrollment and complete the AHA Online CORE Instructor curriculum prior to the first class. Students are required to have a BLS Heathcare Provider manual. If you do not have one, the cost will be $15. CPR Instructor manual is required (approx. cost $35.00). Medical Transcription – Traditional Classroom Delivery This course is designed for the student who is interested in becoming a medical transcriptionist. Requirements for this course include basic computer knowledge, typing skills and medical terminology. Certification is possible upon completion of this course. Auburn and Kennametal Manufacturing Program A new partnership has been forged with Kennametal Inc. to deliver a new stateof-the-art manufacturing training program. This manufacturing program is designed to provide the beginner with the skills necessary to be entry-level ready for the industry. The beginning of this blended program will be at Auburn Career Center and will consist of the traditional classroom, a hands-on laboratory, plus online learning experiences. At Auburn the program will afford students learning opportunities such as blueprint reading, operation of manual mills, lathes, and will end with a thorough introduction to CNC. The second part of this program will be conducted at Kennametal in Solon. This will consist of hands-on training on the shop floor with Kennametal equipment along with classroom instruction. Certifications that are obtainable include: MSSC (Manufacturing Skills Standards Council), NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills), and 10-hour OSHA Safety card. Introduction to Manufacturing with MSSC Certification The Introduction to Manufacturing program will acquaint the student with topics such as: electricity, fluid power, mechanical drives, and PLC’s. The student will also be presented with information pertaining to safety, math review, print reading, communication skills, measurement skills and proper use of hand tools. This will be a blended program in which the student will have on line courses and traditional classroom presentations. The program will give the student the opportunity to obtain a 10-hour OSHA safety certification and a CPT (Certified Production Technician) certification through MSSC (The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council). FUTURE AUBURN CAREER CENTER STUDENTS Advising/Counseling Center The Career Resource Center plays an important role in the academic experience at Auburn Career Center. Professional counselors provide academic advising to all students whether they are undecided or know what classes they want to take. Counselors can also assist in developing individualized career plans. Students are required to meet with a counselor prior to registering for classes. As a service to students, counselors also provide personal and short-term crisis counseling, career counseling, resume development, and testing services. All counseling sessions of this nature are kept confidential.

GED Classes and Official GED Practice Test Earn your GED diploma with FREE GED classes that will prepare you for the Official GED test. When you are ready, we will administer the Official GED practice test free. This test will help determine your readiness for the Official GED test. We will then help you complete your application and schedule an appointment to take the Official GED test. We offer classroom, small group, individual, and computer-based instruction. We offer daytime and evening classes. To be eligible for classes, a student must be at least 19 years of age. Students 16-18 years of age must meet the age exceptions listed in the Ohio Administrative Code.
How do I enroll? You must first attend a two-day orientation held on selected Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00—9:00pm.
