INTRODUCTION The culture of India is the way of living of the people of India. India's languages, religions, dance, music, architecture, food, and customs differ from place to place within the country.
Many elements of India's diverse cultures, such as Indian religions, yoga and Indian cuisine, have had a profound impact across the world.
The Indian culture, often labeled as an amalgamation of several cultures, spans across the Indian subcontinent and has been influenced by a history that is several millennia old.

INTRODUCTION The Northern part of India carries a wide range of tradition within it and is a cultural heritage of India. Northern Indian has a cultural heritage of seven states – Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The southern part of India has a widen platform of its culture but as time fades the Northern culture is going raw in various part of India. Hence a beam of light to northern cultural would make my cultural centre more informative and welcoming market area.

STUDY-1 UNDULATING STRUCTURES FOR GRAND THEATRE AND INTERNATIONAL CULTURE AND ART CENTER CHANGSHA, CHINA •Coop himmelb(l)au’s design for the new grand theatre and international culture & art center for changsha, china, won by zaha hadid architects, is offering unique and eclectic design, full of surprising turns. •Undulating white form is announcing the shiny and smooth spectacle while the architects wanted to create a new cultural center that interacts with the existing natural landscape, visually and scientifically.
JAIN UNIVERSITY
•The overall concept was driven by the aim to position the elements of the center like the objects of an urban Chinese garden, where the elements of water, stones, hills, bridges and flowers are transformed into urban shapes. •Roof garden with its naturally shaped waves provides a plateau for sport and recreation possibilities as well as refreshing water surfaces and natural ventilation.

STUDY-2 NEW CULTURE CENTRE AND LIBRARY WINNING PROPOSAL BY SCHMIDT HAMMER LASSEN ARCHITECTS KARLSHAMN, SWEDEN •The 5,000 square meter cultural centre contains a library, an exhibition area, a cinema, a tourist office and a café, which together work to embrace diversity. • A large glass facade ensures visual contact between the inside of the building and the surroundings. •Visitors will be able to get an overview of the whole cultural centre from the information square and the atrium in the centre of the building.
JAIN UNIVERSITY
•The facade of the building is clad with robust wooden lamellas to minimize solar gain while allowing visual contact with the inside of the building. •During winter, the warm light from the building will appear inviting to visitors. • In the summer, a long bench, stretching the length of the facade, will invite passers-by to sit down or engage in activities around the cultural centre.

STUDY-3 CITY CULTURAL CENTER COMPETITION ENTRY / MAXTHREADS TAICHUNG,TAIWAN( REPUBLIC OF CHINA) •Designed by maxthreads architectural design & planning, their vision for the Taichung city cultural center is to create an unconventional and exceptional gathering space for visitors and inhabitants, animated by a public program. • This proposal reflects the new city’s philosophy of combining nature and innovative technology. •Designing from their dramatic multilevel void spaces, these landforms establish a gateway to landscape beyond.
JAIN UNIVERSITY
•The Taichung inverted cone: incorporating interactive, mixed-use public spaces, recreating boundaries between each program, while defining a new typology of library and fine arts museum: ‘the galibrary.’ The architectural expression for Taichung's city culture center – galibrary has been inspired by the uniquely beautiful mountain-space. •Therefore, introduces a strong relationship between the exterior and interior public spaces.

DETAILED AREA STUDY-1 EXHIBITION AREA AND GALLERY SPACE •The main concerns of a museums/ exhibition area or an art gallery are collecting, documenting, presenting, researching, interpreting and exhibiting some form of material evidence. • We can divide collection into Objects for study Objects for display. • Each group of pictures in an art gallery should be of separate room and each picture has a wall itself. This option provides more wall space in relation to floor area. • Normal human angle of vision starts 27 degree up from eye level. • Allowance according to vision • 3-5 m2 hanging surface per picture. The exhibition spaces are intended as a combination of • 6-10 m2 ground surface per sculpture indoor and open-air exhibition space in order to create a strong relation between covered and green open • 1 m2 cabinet space per coins. spaces through thematic content.
The way an art gallery is designed not only affects how visitors and customers perceive it visually and navigate it spatially, it may even affect the gallery's level of economic success.

ERGONOMICS AND ANTHROPOMETRICS FIELD OF VISION: HEIGHT/ SIZE AND DISTANCE The best hanging positing for smaller pictures is with the point of emphasis ( the level of the horizon in the picture ) at the eye level
Optimal positioning of the pictures on a wall Calculation of the optimal positioning of a luminaries for pictures on a wall- room height, observation zone, size of picture and optimal viewing angle are the parameters defining the optimal position of a wall-lighting luminaries. The upper edge of the picture determines the spotlight opening angle (b: 30*, c: 60* ) with a constant angle of inclination of 30*. Angles less than 30* can result in reflections at the upper edge of the picture. The mathematical formula for calculating the distance “ x ” between spotlight and wall for illuminating a picture with the height “ y ” is: x = y tan 30*.

DETAILED AREA STUDY-3 CAFETERIA SPACE For cafeterias, differentiated lighting with various room structuring systems is recommended: e.g. pendant luminaries for tables, wall luminaries and down lights for a moderately higher lighting level, down lights and spots for accent lighting. Depending on the size and design of the cafeteria, a single lighting system may be enough. Limits are reached only where visual performance and visual comfort are significantly impaired, which means that glare must always be avoided. Harsh shadows are also bad because they interfere with facial recognition. In terms of brightness, service areas in a cafeteria can keep a low profile – with one exception: the food counter and any other areas where food and drink are displayed or on sale need to be more brightly lit than the rest of the room.

ECHO •In audio signal processing and acoustics, an echo (plural echoes) is a reflection of sound, arriving at the listener some time after the direct sound. •If so many reflections arrive at a listener that they are unable to distinguish between them, the proper term is reverberation. •An echo can be explained as a wave that has been reflected by a discontinuity in the propagation medium, and returns with sufficient magnitude and delay to be perceived. • Echoes are reflected off walls or hard surfaces like mountains and privacy fences.
JAIN UNIVERSITY
LONG DELAYED REFLECTIONS •During a continuous sound, the reverberant sound level is reached when the rate at which energy is supplied by the source is equal to the rate at which sound is absorbed by the room and its contents. •Too much reverberant sound will result in loss of clarity
SOUND SHADOW •A phenomenon caused by the absorption or obstruction of a sound wave by an object in its path. • The effect produced is perceived as a reduction in loudness depending on the observer's position with respect to the sound source and obstructing object and is greatest when the three are aligned.

DETAILED AREA STUDY-5 OFFICE SPACE •
•
•
The first requirement for visual performance and visual comfort is an adequate level of lighting. For compliance with DIN EN 12464-1, illuminance in the task area must be no lower than 300 lux. The most popular office lighting solution is based on pendant luminaries or standard-alone luminaries for direct/indirect lighting. The alternative – direct general lighting with recessed or surface mounted ceiling luminaries or pendant luminaries.

DETAILED STUDY-6 ESCALATORS Transporting large numbers of people effectively. Positioning escalators within a building: • In a building a walking distance of 50m should be avoided. • How many escalators? To determine the transportation requirements ( persons per hour) the following parameters are required: – Type of building & Peak traffic time – Population factor based on net usable area – Level of travelling comfort required on the unit • The theoretical transportation capacities depends on the width and speed of escalators. • The effective transportation is between 40%-80% depending upon user density and step. • Proper inclination of escalators: inclination of 30/35 degree is available The inclination of 30 degree provides the highest travelling comfort and maximum safety.

DETAILED STUDY-7 SKYLIGHTS
•Skylights are classic day lighting elements for picture galleries. • They provide uniform, diffuse lighting. Because the light is admitted over a large area, the shadows produced are soft. • The incident daylight that passes through a skylight reaches nearly every part of the room, including freestanding display cabinets, sculptures and partitions. Sky lighting types include roof windows, unit skylights, tubular day lighting devices (TDDs), sloped glazing, and custom skylights. Uses include: •day lighting elements used to allow direct and/or indirect sunlight, via top lighting. •providing a visual connection to the outdoor environment to interior occupants. •sustainable building — passive solar heating, and with operable units; ventilation for passive cooling and fresh air exchange. CONCEPT Transitional style is a merge of traditional and modern furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics. The result is an elegant, enduring design that is both comfortable and classic.
TRANSITIONAL STYLE A bit of contemporary and traditional
Balance between the two would be through its simple lines, neutral color scheme, use of light and warmth.
JAIN UNIVERSITY
Balance old and new with a mix of simple lines, neutrals, warmth and light. Modern being sleek and tradition being stodgy; blend of these two would make the space transitional.
CULTURAL CENTRE [A BALANCE BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERN ART]
Incorporating interactive, mixed-use public spaces, recreating boundaries between each program through an atrium that would bind the space together and bring in natural light.

CONCLUSION Through out my thesis project work I have learnt how to balance between tradition and contemporary art. How revitalization in a building would give a new contemporary look through restoring, redesigning, addition and deletion of space. How to incorporates the evolving old tradition with new conception of design. And also how the different appeal to the interiors of the space would be give. I have understood how patterns and forms of design have an effect on the interior atmosphere. And also how lighting design Effects the Interior space. Use of those materials that would give an appeal of tradition and modern space. I once again thank all those who have guided, helped and supported in completion of this project THANKING YOU, JYOTHI JAIN K 5TH SEMESTER BID JAIN UNIVERSITY
