Danger! NEVER USE THIS Fertilisers

Banned

Fertilizers Globally:

Approved Fertilizers Globally: Organic

Fertilizers:Compost: Decomposed organic matter rich in nutrients.

Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs): Many countries have banned or severely restricted the use of HHPs due to their significant risks to human health and the environment. These can include:

Organophosphates: Some organophosphates are highly toxic and can cause serious health problems.

Carbamates: Another class of insecticides with potential for high toxicity.

Neonicotinoids: These insecticides have been linked to harm to bees and other pollinators, leading to bans or restrictions in many countries.

Certain Herbicides: Some herbicides, such as paraquat, have been banned in many countries due to their toxicity and environmental impact.

Manure: Animal waste that provides nutrients and improves soil structure.

Green Manure: Growing and then tilling under green cover crops to add organic matter.

Inorganic Fertilizers: Nitrogen Fertilizers: Urea, ammonium nitrate, etc. (Use should be balanced to avoid environmental damage)

Phosphate Fertilizers: Triple superphosphate, diammonium phosphate, etc.

Potash Fertilizers: Potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, etc.

For a list of Approved & Banned Fertilizers in Kenya or Your specific Country:

Consult with experts: Always consult with agricultural experts, local authorities (like the PCPB-in Kenya), and reputable sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information on approved and banned fertilizers.

NB: Regulations are constantly evolving: Pesticide and fertilizer regulations are subject to change.

Kenyan Case Study!

Fertilizers approved for use in Kenya must be registered with the PCPB.

We therefore strongly advise contacting the Pest Control Products Board of Kenya (PCPB) for the most accurate and up-to-date information on banned and approved fertilizers in Kenya.

About PCPB

The PCPB maintains a list of approved fertilizers and their permitted uses. Hence it's crucial to always use fertilizers that are registered and approved for use in Kenya to ensure safety and compliance.

Organic farming practices and natural pest control methods offer effective solutions without the harmful side effects. By opting for eco-friendly options, you can promote a healthier ecosystem, protect wildlife, and ensure that the produce you cultivate is safe for consumption. Always prioritize safety and sustainability in your farming practices to contribute to a better future for all.

“The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), is a landmark piece of legislation aimed at combating deforestation and forest degradation. It prohibits the import and export of certain products into the EU market unless they can be proven to be "deforestation-free" and produced in compliance with the relevant laws of the producing country.”

Key Aspects of the EUDR:

Scope: Covers seven key commodities: cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy, and wood, as well as many derived products.

"Deforestation-free" Requirement: Products must be produced without contributing to deforestation or forest degradation after December 31, 2020.

Legal Production Requirement: Products must be produced in accordance with the laws of the producing country regarding land use rights, environmental protection, and forest-related regulations.

Due Diligence: Companies must conduct thorough due diligence to verify the origin and production of the commodities they trade, ensuring compliance with the EUDR.

Geolocation Data: Companies are required to provide detailed geolocation data of the production areas to track and verify the origin of products.

Opportunities for African Countries:

Market Access: By complying with the EUDR, African countries can gain access to the lucrative EU market for these commodities.

Sustainable Production: The EUDR incentivizes sustainable agricultural practices and responsible land use, which can benefit African economies and ecosystems.

Investment: The EUDR can attract investment in sustainable agriculture and forestry sectors in Africa.

Improved Governance: The EUDR can encourage the development of robust legal and regulatory frameworks for land use and environmental protection in African countries.

Challenges for African Countries:

Compliance Costs: Implementing the necessary systems and procedures to comply with the EUDR can be costly for businesses, particularly smallholders.

Data Collection and Management: Gathering and managing the required geolocation and other data can be challenging for many African producers.

Capacity Building: Strengthening institutions and building capacity within African countries to effectively implement and enforce the EUDR will be crucial.

Addressing Land Tenure Issues: Addressing land tenure insecurity and ensuring that smallholders have secure access to land are essential for successful EUDR implementation.

Conclusion:

“The EUDR presents both opportunities and challenges for African countries. By embracing sustainable practices, strengthening their regulatory frameworks, and investing in capacity building, African nations can leverage the EUDR to enhance their competitiveness in the global market, promote sustainable development, and contribute to global efforts to combat deforestation.”
