HOUSING FOR TEMPORARY RESIDENCE Academic project / Individual work / semester 2 / 2019 Location: Finland, Helsinki, Suvisaaristo, Braskarna 7, 02380

4

This country house with 5 sleeping berths is designed to provide the urban population of Vantaa, Espoo and Helsinki metropolis with an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The project is intended for temporary use from May to September where any guest or resident will be able to take a rest on the Suvisaaristo Islands during the summer period.

Since 76% of its area is covered with forests, Finland is highly abundant with wood in contrast to other European countries. Being highly accessible, timber has been the basic construction material in Scandinavia since ancient times making Finns the experts in the field. That’s why it has been chosen for the project.

The house is located in Espoo on the Suvisaaristo Islands making the site more than just advantageous because it’s pretty close to the center of Helsinki and only a 30-minute car ride separates concrete jungles from tranquil forests on the bay. It appears invaluable in such a developing region of the Finnish capital as Uusimaa because with the city expansion and massive population growth by 62% over the past 10 years the locals find it difficult to interact with the wild.

Double glazing In cool Finnish winters double glazing helps keep the temperature inside and reduces U-value to decrease electricity costs significantly.

Rainwater tank Roof surfaces are equipped with special holes through which rainwater enters a special tank to be further used by the tenants, for example, for the irrigation of gardens.

8

Power storage unit As a backup energy source during power outages, it makes your home more energy efficient, smoothing load curves on power grids, which is extremely important for suburban homes.

Solar panels Located at the 60th parallel the northern Finnish capital has the most sunshine from May to September. Therefore, solar panels might be an additional energy source which will also reduce overall energy consumption.

This single-family house is designed as permanent housing in Suutarila subdistrict of Helsinki, in Kiertotähdenkuja street which is 14.5 km from the city center. The aim of the project is to provide accommodation for the residents of a rapidly growing Uusimaa region.

The building is a two-storey frame house with a living area of 137,9 m2 and a private yard of 692,5 m2. The main construction material is wood with concrete in the elements of the bearing walls.

14

Construction site location

On the construction site there are 6 similar houses in close proximity to the adjacent road. EXHIBITION PAVILION Academic project / Individual work / semester 1 / 2019 Location: Finland, Helsinki, Hiekkajaalanranta, Kalkkihiekantori, 00980

20

The pavilion is located in Vuosaari, a residential area of Helsinki, along Hiekkajaalanranta Street. Since there are no venues for exhibitions and other community activities around this project will become a magnet for both adults and children who live in Aurinkolahti neighbourhood because it will include various exhibition halls, children playground and convention centers.

One of the advantages of the pavilion is its close proximity to the homes of local residents, a bus stop, parking lot for 40 vehicles, boatyard, pier and a recreational area along the waterfront. All these undoubtedly make the location more than attractive.
