We Can Be Heroes Team Malasakit Hero Awardee Josefina Caballero tries to make the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time…

F

or Josefina Caballero, or Ms. Jossie as she is known at the Business Procurement Group, it really does not take much to make someone else’s day a little better. One small thoughtful gesture, may it be spending time with kids in an outreach program, participating in a cleanliness drive or assisting an elderly in church, can already make a difference to someone else’s day — making the world better, one act of kindness at a time. At the One San Miguel Christmas Party, Jossie was among those recognized as a “Team Malasakit Hero” for her volunteerism efforts at GSMI and in her community. Jossie never thought she would be given such recognition, not to mention, be a role model and an inspiration to others for her volunteer work. “In a way, it is like feeding your soul. Nakakaluwag ng loob ‘yung nakakatulong ka sa ibang tao, parang stress reliever. Di man ako makatulong financially, palagay ko sapat na ‘yung nakapagpasaya ka sa oras na ibinigay mo sa kanila,” she says.

Cheers to a good year!

2015 was a good year for GSMI. Our flagship brand, Ginebra San Miguel grew 8% versus last year. With improving operating income, we expect to see a much improved bottom line for this year. All of these are because of the efforts, hard work, dedication, and passion that every one of you have put in. Going towards 2016, we should expect more challenges ahead of us, and these challenges will never end. That is why, I am asking that we should work even harder, smarter, and faster as one. We should give our full commitment to the job that we do in order to help make the job of others easier. After all, we all have one goal, which is to be the dominant player in the industry. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has put all their efforts and hard work for the success of our organization. This Christmas season, I encourage everyone to spend some quality time with your families. The hard work that we do is not only for the benefit of the business but also for the benefit of our families. From my own family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

ALL IN THE FAMILY It seems the value of volunteerism and community service runs in the family. “Hindi naman nag volunteer ang mga magulang ko pero nakagisnan ko nang matulungin talaga sila sa kapwa,” says Jossie. She adds that her three children are also into doing volunteer work. “When I’m not busy with work, I also join them para kasama Josefina Caballero holds her ‘Team Malasakit Hero Award’. ako ng mga anak ko,” she relates. Jossie was already exposed to volunteering early on. In high school, she was an active member of Kabataang Kabarangay wherein she enjoins youth like her to engage in sports, while she put herself through school as a working student until she graduated from college. Currently, Jossie volunteers for activities sponsored by her church Divine Savior Parish in Fairview, Quezon City. “Paborito kong ginagawa ngayon ‘yung pagtulong sa elders. Siguro dahil nakaka-relate na ako sa kanila. After Sunday mass, we keep them company, we give them advice. Kailangan lang nila may makakausap,” she adds. Jossie hopes that even if we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we don’t forget to think of others. “Maganda siguro na mas marami pang community service activities sa GSMI para mas marami pang empleyado ang ma-expose sa volunteerism, ang tumulong sa kapwa even in their own little way,” she ends.

hristmas was probably our most favorite holiday growing up. There was joy in the mere anticipation of ripping open gifts we believed to be from Santa Claus come Christmas Eve. Every year, we would attempt to catch Santa Claus. And every year, we get bitterly disappointed. Indeed, the Christmases of our childhood were made magical by this elusive jolly guy in red suit. So we ask our ka-barangay: What was your most memorable gift from Santa Claus?

I still clearly remember during my childhood years when me and my siblings were so excited to wake up in the morning of Christmas Day and look at our over-sized Christmas stockings, which our Mom made for us to hang in front of our doors filled with lots of goodies and toys from Santa Claus. It was our tradition back then to make a Christmas wish list addressed to Santa and then we put it inside the stockings. My most favorite gift I received then was a walking robot with blinking lights and sounds.

The most memorable gift that Santa Claus gave me is the gift of love from everyone around me. I’m so lucky to be loved by the people I cared the most. Their love gives me strength to keep going.

I remember two fondest memories of Christmas gifts that I received from Santa Claus. First would have to be the gray Bugs Bunny body bag I got when I was in Grade 2. It was the craze that time. So you could just imagine how ecstatic I was when, come Christmas morning, it was what I saw when I opened the gift. The other one was when I was in Grade 4. The sock I put up on our Christmas tree was filled with coins and bills and chocolates and candies. It was special for me because I knew that it was a difficult time for us as we were hit by a typhoon the previous month but nevertheless, Santa Claus made it a point to still make our Christmas special.

MON VALENCIA MARKETING My unforgettable gift from Santa was a Batman costume way back in December of 1964.

As a child, youngest to my five siblings, Santa Claus was introduced to me as the one putting money inside the socks that we hang on Christmas Eve. And exactly two years ago, I received my best gift ever from the real Santa Claus, with fervent prayers, Jesus granted my wish, I became pregnant with my first child. So it’s my turn to be Santa Claus now.

Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girls

C `

ome “ber” months, aside from the frenzy that the start of Christmas season brings, the launch of the Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl has also become a much-anticipated event.

Ginebra San Miguel calendars have become a staple in neighborhood sari-sari stores, barber shops, car repair and vulcanizing shops, and even locker rooms. And in recent years, it has turned into a sought-after Christmas giveaway, appealing mostly to fans who want to own a calendar to add to their collection of celebrity souvenirs. But before the Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl, there was the Ginebra San Miguel Super Angels, which was launched in the 1980s and influenced by the hit US TV series Charlie’s Angels. The popularity of the Super Angels inspired the start of Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl in 1988 with then model and TV host Monina Tan as the first calendar girl who posed in the calendar ala Marilyn Monroe.
