KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Breakfast keynote: ANDREW WATT, FInstF

President and CEO, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International Andrew Watt is president and CEO of AFP International, the largest community of fundraising professionals in the world with 30,000 members in more than 200 chapters. Watt leads the association’s professional staff in Arlington, Va.; Toronto, Ontario; and Mexico City. He joined AFP as vice president for international development in 2006 and was promoted to chief programs officer in 2008, where he led the Membership and Professional Advancement Divisions of AFP. From 1993-2005, Watt was employed by the Institute of Fundraising in the United Kingdom, a professional membership organization for fundraising professionals. In 2006, he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Fundraising in recognition of his extraordinary service to the profession. Watt has been a strong proponent of the value of the nonprofit community and fundraising throughout his career. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh.

Lunch keynote: 21ST CENTURY PARKS PANEL The Parklands of Floyds Fork is one of the largest new metropolitan parks in the country. In 2013 the board completed the more than $120 million capital campaign for land acquisition and park construction.The first of four new parks opened in 2011, and the last of the four parks is expected to be open by the end of 2015. Upon completion, the new park system, spanning nearly 4,000 acres, will be five times the size of New York City’s Central Park. The project and campaign were led by the founder and visionary 21st Century Parks Chairman and CEO Dan Jones, with volunteer leadership from Humana Inc. Co-founder David A. Jones and Chuck Denny, Regional President of PNC Bank. Our panelists will share their stories and lessons with you; how they raised $120 million from more than 500 donors to build The Parklands of Floyds Fork, a transformative and city-shaping project for our community and a model for communities across the country. Christen Boone, former Director of External Relations for 21st Century Parks, will facilitate this engaging discussion.

John Roush President, Centre College

John Roush became the 20th president of Centre College in 1998. Since becoming president, he has established the Brown Fellows Program, a premier undergraduate scholars program made possible by a partnership with the Brown Foundation; the Bonner Scholars Program, with an endowment gift from the Bonner Foundation; and the Centre Scholars Program to honor outstanding work at the junior faculty rank. Roush has added 15 new endowed professorships; renovated several campus buildings; added several buildings; and completed the successful “A More Perfect Centre” campaign, raising nearly $170 million. He earned a bachelor’s in English at Ohio University’s Honors College in 1972 and completed his formal education at Miami University, earning a master’s in 1973 and Ph.D. in 1979.

Kris Kimel President, Kentucky Science and Technology Corp. & Founder, IdeaFestival

Kris Kimel is president and a founder of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation, an independent non-profit company with an international reputation for designing and implementing innovative and broad-scale initiatives in science, technology, talent development, entrepreneurship and disruptive innovation. Kimel holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky and, while a student, was a 1974 recipient of the University of Kentucky’s Sullivan Medallion. He is also founder of the international IdeaFestival and was a leader behind the vision and successful implementation of Kentucky Space, which designs and develops research and development, education and entrepreneurial space platforms.

OUR PRESENTERS Lynnie Meyer, MSN, R.N., CFRE Norton Healthcare, System Vice President, Women’s and Children’s Community Partnerships & Chief Development Officer

Lynnie Meyer oversees the external affairs of the Women’s and Children’s Division of Norton Healthcare, aligning retail partners, physician ambassadors, volunteer programs and services. She also serves as chief development officer, a position she has held since 2004. In that role, Meyer leads the operations of the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Norton Healthcare Foundation, which support the needs of Kosair Children’s Hospital and the adult-service hospitals of Norton Healthcare. Under her leadership, in 2013 the foundations generated more than $21 million in support of Norton Healthcare’s mission. Before joining Norton Healthcare, Meyer served as president and CEO of The Center for Women and Families in Louisville.

Dave Smith President & CEO, Heaton Smith Group, LLC

Dave Smith founded Heaton Smith Group, LLC in January 2009 and brings nearly 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector to his position. Before founding Heaton Smith, he served as a Regional Vice President for Thompson & Associates. Smith has worked with nonprofit institutions and their donors in the Southeast, Mid Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest and Pacific regions. He has served clients representing a wide range of nonprofit institutions. Prior to his career in legacy and charitable planning services, Smith served extensively in a management capacity in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. A native of Kentucky, Smith graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Psychology. He lives with his family in Atlanta.

Timothy R. Burcham, CFRE Vice President, Kentucky Community and Technical College System & Executive Director, KCTCS Foundation, Inc.

Timothy Burcham serves as Vice President for KCTCS, which comprises 16 two-year colleges with 68 campuses throughout Kentucky. He provides leadership for all private fund-raising, marketing and communications, alumni affairs, strategic planning, event planning, grants and contracts, governmental affairs, and change/project management. Under his leadership, Kentucky’s two-year college system successfully completed its first system-wide major gifts campaign that raised $43.2 million in private gifts and pledges. Burcham also oversaw the first KCTCS statewide major gifts campaign, which raised more than $100 million. He is the past International Board Chairman for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, after serving for more than 20 years in a variety of AFP international committee, division and Board leadership positions.

Tawanda Lewis Owsley Director of Major Gifts for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center

Tawanda Lewis Owsley is Director of Major Gifts for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. She has management responsibility to direct fund-raising at the major gift level over $50,000. She oversees a team of gift officers responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects with an annual team goal of $10 million. Prior to this role, Owsley was Director of Development and Major Gifts for the College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky. Earlier in her career, she served as Director of Major Gifts for Norton Healthcare Foundation and as Director of the Tocqueville Society of major donors with Metro United Way in Louisville.

Jamey Elliott Vice President of Development at Kentucky Country Day School

Jamey Elliott has served some of the Commonwealth’s most respected institutions. After graduating from Centre College, he began his career as an Admission Counselor at his alma mater. Following a three-year stint in admissions and alumni relations at Washington University in St. Louis, Elliott was asked to return to Centre, where he held the positions of Director of Alumni Relations and Director of Annual Giving. In 2004, he led the College to the top national ranking in annual alumni giving. Elliott then became Director of Development for the Legal Aid Society of Louisville, a non-profit law firm. Shortly thereafter, he was asked to serve as Executive Director of The Library Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Louisville Free Public Library. In February 2009, Elliott was recruited to serve as Vice President of Development at KCD.
