“How can we have a conversation about design,” Ruchita wonders, “when we can’t seem to agree on what we’re talking about?” Born of a series of casual encounters and interviews with the people around her, this piece of visual narrative looks to accumulate ideas about what design means in India, and also what it has come to represent for the design community in the country.
This article was written for a collaborative publication: Create Change for Kyoorius Designyatra 2013 produced by Kyoorius and British Council, India and is a part of British Council’s design writing programme This project would not have been possible without the support of British Council India and Kyoorius, the co-publishers of the original book and enthusiastic proponents of design writing in India. Special thanks are also due to the editor William Shaw, the untiring Aanchal Sodhani, and to my colleagues at Kahani Designworks who help me tell my stories better. Š Ruchita Madhok, 2013.
