Aerial floss explores an air-borne temporal architecture that is able to dynamically reconfigure in relation to live social events. Aerial robots (UAVs) are utilised to wrap and weave a light-weight 3-dimensional thread structure around an air-borne scaffold of helium balloons that are able to constantly reposition in relation to weaving activities. Aerial Floss has adapted the technology of fairy floss machines to fabricate a high-strength, light-weight fibrous material optimised for aerial construction that operates similar to a spider’s silk. The research explores different modes of UAV flight control that engage with autonomous decision-making in order to achieve a practical and creative spatial weave under numerous on-site scenarios.

The proposal of project is to create air borne architecture response to activities underneath which can adapt itself in real time to provide more space or create an opening related condition. Not only the architecture itself is scalable but it can also scale up in equipment of UAVs , Rovers, Balloons, A specific event that has various scales and dynamic activities though out the event is The Burning Man festival in the United States, Nevada, which is used as a prototypical test scenario to implement this air-borne architecture during its one week duration which can accommodate a wide range of public events and gatherings of diverse sizes. Aerial Floss creates a space in an area for people activities during the event. With the expanding of activities and increasing people, the structure will continuously expanding by lifting the balloons or creating more units and join to create a larger space to response the event underneath in real-time. The general process of construction can be divided in two main sequence, which are constructing and expending. In constructing process, it can be overall sperated into five period: 1. the system starts at the sametime as the event. Starting from using Trucks as Agents station. The truck wil arrive the site in different parts of area. 2. When the truck reach their position. They will transform into a station-mode which will release the agents both rover and UAV when the they are needed. 3. the UAVs and Rovers would autonomously fly out from their transportable home, where they would also return periodically for energy and material recharges. UAVs also fly out autonomously looking for an aerial scaffold. They will return back to the station when batterry need to be charged or run out of material. 4. Rover can autonomouly self-organized to create hexagon unit, create balloons as aerial scaffolding. Let the balloons goes when need a higher space, and release more threadto make the canupy-likestructure. 5. the UAVs would deposite floss material in the air, wrapping the aerial scaffolds. And the number of these would be determined in real-time in relation to the gathering of people at each specific event. Kai-Jui Tsao / 074744462875 / tsaokaijui@gmail.com

The main structure/event in Burning man can be divided into 4 area. The Burning man himself which will be burn down as a biggest show of the event, The centre area which will act as a reception/information centre, The pavilion/temple on the theme of the year, and a large scale light/sound show.
In terms of constant expanding, the structure will continuously expanding by lifting the balloons or creating more units and join to create a larger space to response the event underneath in real-time.

If two or more structures near to each other, they will be combined to a larger structure to provide a large space for people. And eventually, if the space is big enough, the system will create a tower-like structure to attract more people and agents.

The Airborne Architecture With all these agents choreographed, they autonomously create a huge floating architecture with tones of details texture consisted by interlock threads. React to the material that UAV deposited The red dot represent what UAV saw which attracted the UAV, the green line represent the material that located too close to them. The UAV will avoiding them with alignment. Yellow blink appears when the number of material near them are too great, UAV would also avoiding those area. Lifting & Cutting if they connect one by one the space is small and not aerial. So we developed a strategy to make a knot between two near balloon strings. and release them from the rover.

By exploring the possibility of modifying the eight horizontal transportation systems to nine vertical transportation systems, a large-scale aviation city emerges. This reduces all transport transfer distances to 0 at the center of the urban area. Such a convenient lifestyle of 0 distance transit gives rise to a NEW LIFESTYLE which we can called - MEGA-CITY

There are two expressways on the second level of the MEGACITY, which connect with the five original traffic routes, and also with the airport on the uppermost level. The SECOND LEVEL is a traffic hub gathering the flow of the city from the surrounding area and also evacuating it. Interestingly, incorporating the AIR TRANSPORT LEVEL (FOURTH LEVEL) creates 0 distances with the LIVING SPACE below (THIRD LEVEL).
