This building design is for a winery and resort sited on the railway near the vineyards of La Rioja, Spain. The building is a series of terraces in the natural escarpment that connects the rail line down to a river. The railway is incorporated into the heart of the building to permit easy transportation of the winery’s production between the city and the site, and to transport visitors. Visitors will enter from the top of the escarpment and ride a water-powered funicular down the sloping landscape while watching the process of wine making before reaching their unique ‘cave room’ accommodations with terraces and a river side pool. This design presents environmentally conscious solutions to the needs of the winery/resort while creating a place of escape and fantasy for those who visit.
