IDENTITY

For this design, we had to remove any five items from our bag/pockets/wallet. I then composed these objects on an A4 paper, considering the relationship created between the objects. Once I finalised a composition, I took a birds eye view photo of the composition and drew an accurate plan of this photo, focusing on the positive and negative aspects of the items.

SCALE/ABSTRACT

For this design I used 3 design principles: scale, contrast and symmetry. I allowed these selected principles to drive my composition. The symmetry is diagonally across the page and I decided to make my piece symmetrical to give it balance and to repeat the interesting shapes of my object. The contrast inside the circles creates a sense of figure ground which adds an abstract feel while clearly still portraying the overall shape of the objects. I created something new from my plan and elevations of the compass and wanted to communicate a clear sense of unity overall, while making it abstract and dynamic.

IN THE STYLE OF

In this design, my challenge was to use my object to recreate Hecox’s design using Malboro packets. Firstly, I took some photos of my compass in interesting positions that were the same orientation as each other. I then arranged them randomly in a grid position, like the Malboro packets are, and made a rough sketch of this layout. To create the same look as Hecox, I used a vibrant red block colour and black lines to create shapes of the objects. I then added some texture and smudges in the same style as the design inspiration.

previous page: JUST DO IT! below: PARTS OF MY WORLD I tried to frame a specific perspective (for example a high angle perspective looking down on the glass bottle) and identified different details that i saw such as the texture of the UE Boom, the shape of the dragonflies on the notebook and the light and shadows on all of the objects.

OVER TIME

For this design I used principles such as contrast, to show the difference between the solid ice, liquid water and gas. I used white space, dots and geometric outlines to show these three different states. The task also enabled me to explore repetition by repeating the same object in the same position, yet over time.
