Founded in 1884 under the auspices of the Episcopal Church, AWS is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and the Northwest Association of Independent Schools. In 2009 AWS became an International Baccalaureate World School and in 2017 became one of fewer than 25 schools in the United States to offer the IB curriculum in each division, earning the distinction as an International Baccalaureate Continuum School.
