dorm room tour MASSIVE IMPACT ON A COLLEGE BUDGET Dorm rooms can be dark, dreary and a place students don’t want to spend their time at. Yet, your dorm room is now your home away from home and there is no reason not to love it. We took a dorm in Hamil Hall, on Troy University’s campus and transformed it into something any college woman will love. We wanted the room to feel like home by adding some of classic pieces and keeping to the southern charm. We added some items from local thrift and antique stores and then went on a shopping spree at Perfectly Imperfect in Troy, Alabama. By updating thrift store finds and some pieces already owned, Belle was able to splurge at Perfectly Imperfect. The dorm room made a huge change without breaking the bank. All Perfectly Imperfect products provided for this shoot are availible online at perfectlyimperfectshop.com

CHICKEN QUESIDILLA RECIPE, PAGE 40

wow ‘em with these quick meals

meals made easy DORM ROOM APPROVED MEALS College students barely have to time to sleep, let alone find time to cook meals. We have found some meals that will take you less than 10 minutes and will make your taste buds happy. These meals are easy peasy and only require a microwave. Using things such as instant ramen noodles or macaroni and cheese and adding some quick ingredients will make instant food taste like homemade food.

1 RAMEN SPAGHETTI Ingredients: Ramen Noodles Packet 1 cup of water 1 tablespoon of Tomato Sauce 1 tablespoon of Alfredo Sauce Parmesan Cheese

Directions: Place Ramen noodles in a bowl and add 1 cup of water. Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds or until the noodles are soft. Do not place the packet included with the Ramen noodels in the noodles. Add 1 tablespoon of Alfredo Sauce and toss with the noodles until all noodles are coverd with the alfredo sauce. Once noodles are covered, add the 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce or as much as necessary. Lastly, top with parmesan cheese and enjoy!

2 CHICKEN QUESADILLA As seen on Page 34

Ingredients: Package of cooked Chicken 2 Flour Tortillas 2 Cups of Cheddar Cheese 1 cup of Green Onion 1/4 cup of canned Jalapeno Chile 1 cup of Salsa

drinks that won’t ruin your diet It seems like these days everyone is on a diet, yet how can you enjoy a casual drink without ruining all your hard work? Fruit drinks and sodas are full of sugar, which leaves you with that hung-over feeling.

By replacing those with carbonated water and real fruits, you can enjoy drinks without feeling guilty and hung-over.

CAPE CODDLER 1 shot of Vodka 1/2 cup of sugar free Cranberry Juice 1/2 cup of seltzer water and a little fresh lime juice These 2 ingredients will make a big impression. The Cape Coddler will clench your thirst but don’t let the cranberry trick you. Trade your normal in for all natural sugar free cranberry, which will leave you feeling much better after a night of drinking!

VODKA SODA 1 shot of vodka Fill the rest of the glass with seltzer water Add a lemon or lime wedge Sodas are one of the first things to go when you are on a diet, but you can still enjoy a soda and a healthy diet. Seltzer water and real fruits add that soda fizz and taste we all enjoy!

WHITE SANGRIA Cut up 2 strawberries, ½ of a peach and ½ of a pear 3 shots of organic white wine Fill the rest of the cup with seltzer water You did not think we would leave you ladies with out a healthy wine choice. The great thing about the White Sangria is we have added real fruits instead of loading it with different fruit drinks. Plus choosing an organic wine without all the preservatives will help with your hangover tomorrow. So throw all your favorites in and see what you can come up for a white wine favorite.

SCREWDRIVER 1 shot of vodka 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice Fill remainder with seltzer water Who does not love the classic screwdriver? Wether it is breakfast with the girls or just a little afternoon refresher, this is a go to.

EDITOR’S PICK

MIMOSA 1 cup of fresh orange juice 2 shots of sparkling wine ¼ cup of seltzer water Another orange juice favorite is the Mimosa. You can either add some white wine or champagne to make any party a celebration. So fill up a glass and raise your glass for this orange juice craze.

MARGARITA 1 shot of syrup 2 shots of tequila ½ of a lemon squeezed 1 lime squeezed ½ cup of ice Blend up ice along with lemon and lime juice For most college students, one of their favorite things to do is go down to the local Mexican restaurant and have some margaritas with friends. We created a simple margarita that will beat out any Mexican restaurant and still keep to your diet plan. Want a little more flavor? Blend in your favorite fruit with your ice.

MUST READ

how to avoid the freshman 15

THESE DAYS THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GET FIT. PEOPLE ARE TRYING CRAZY DIETS AND UNIQUE WAYS TO SLIM DOWN FOR SUMMER. OUR EDITOR SHARES HER TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID THE PESKY FRESHMAN 15.

When I was in college, the only time we ever thought about the gym was right after New Year’s. The gym would be flooded with people who made a resolution and were determined to keep it. As the weeks went by, the people slowly disappeared and so did I. I never saw myself as “fat” or really was concerned with my weight. My body had stayed the same until my junior year of college. I looked in the mirror and realized the Freshman 15 had come 2 years late and added 10 more pounds to its 15. I hated the way I looked. I immediately started figuring out what to do. I tried the classes and the diets and they would work short term but in the end I put back on the weight and ended up adding a little more. I constantly struggled with loving my body and getting it where I wanted for years after I graduated college. Then something happened.. New Year’s last year, I looked in the mirror and was finally fed up with myself. Not because of the weight that I had added or the way my body looked. I was fed up with how I felt about myself and the way I was eating left me feeling. I was tired and honestly, I was depressed. I took out a workout program that I tried and failed for years and finally completed it. I finally started to see my body changing for the better and I was hooked. Hooked on how I felt on the inside and how I started feeling about myself. I was beginning to love myself again. I know you have all been where I was. Struggling with your body and trying everything to make yourself feel better about the way you look. The gym and diets are not the only way to get you there. I had to learn to love myself. Once I started to feel better about myself, I found a new love healthy eating and living.

So here are my tips:

1. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH AMAZING PEOPLE.

Place people in your life who push you everyday to be the best you can be and who also show you that you are amazing. Surrounding yourself with positive energy is the best gift you can give yourself. My friends inspire and push me everyday to be better in life but also in my healthy living.

2. DO THINGS FOR YOURSELF. Things that you love and

make you feel good. We often forget to do things just for ourselves, so be selfish and spend the whole day doing everything for you. 3. GET OUTSIDE. Put down the phone, and turn off the tv. If you are like me and you are stuck behind a computer all day, the fresh air will help refresh your brain and give you that second wind to finish the day.

4. KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL. You may

actually fail again and again, but remember why you started. Know that just because something works for someone else does not mean it is meant for you. Find a way to eat healthy and a workout plan that works for you. Once you figure that out, you will be shocked to find it because less of a chore and more of something you look forward to.

5. DO NOT RELY ON THE SCALE. I have tons of photos from when I started. Muscle weighs more than fat so the scale does not always show your true progress.

6. LEARN TO LOVE THE PERSON WHO IS LOOKING BACK AT YOU IN THE MIRROR. Loving yourself is the best feeling in the world. You are beautiful and amazing. Once you realize this, there is nothing that you can not do.
