CEO REPORT
CEO REPORT – Linda K. Martin, CEcD Projects in 2014 represented stable growth in the local economy, especially among the small business sector. Grow Idaho Falls worked with 12 successful projects in various aspects of assistance, ranging from referring properties, arranging itineraries for visits, consulting on incentive package information or workforce training, advocacy for funding, and providing statistical or demographic information. Additionally, we responded to 28 formal Requests for Information, and fielded 45 general inquiries and walk-in visits. The new and expanding companies, to which we provided assistance included: Broadway Ford, Apple Athletic Club, Idaho Mountain Trading, Hooker Tactical, Guns N’ Gear, Intel Security, Progrexion, College of Southern Idaho, Crisis Center of Idaho Falls, D&A Commercial, Camping World of Idaho Falls, and NuScale/Fluor. Several of these companies are in the beginning stages of their projects, and we have high expectations for additional phases, investments, and jobs to continue
into the future. These companies collectively plan to add approximately 362 jobs, and inject an estimated $40.7 Million of investment into our eastern Idaho region. In February, Gary Zimmerman, Senior Economist with the San Francisco Federal Reserve, spoke to our investorship about the national economic outlook and impacts to the Idaho economy. Our thanks go to the Bank of Idaho and Park Price for sponsoring and making this event possible. In the peak of summer, Sleep Inn & Suites/Town Pump sponsored Diane Norton, the new Idaho Tourism Manager to speak at our July Investor Breakfast about the “Business of Tourism.” In October, following up from the Intermountain Energy Summit and NuScale Supplier Day in August, Mike McGough, Chief Commercial Officer for NuScale Power spoke to our group regarding their innovative small modular reactor (SMR) technology, which was awarded $217 Million in matching funding from the Department of Energy for development and licensing to commercialization of the SMR. Many thanks to US Bank, the City of Idaho Falls and Idaho Falls Power for their sponsorship and support. Also, in 2014 we received the official trademark for the Business+Innovation+Growth (BIG) Competition™ event from the US
Patent & Trademark Office. As of 2015, we have held three competitions and awarded funds to 10 entrepreneurial and collegiate projects. In our event this February, most of the winners had already started their businesses and had statistics for actual sales.
Thanks to all of our directors, investors, volunteers, and sponsors that work every day to make eastern Idaho a sterling example of how to link business, opportunity, and quality of life.
