Perfection vs unique As a hobbyist fashion designer, I always choose natural materials for my projects. Yet natural materials, like cotton, linen, silk and wool, can get annoying sometimes – they shrink with heat, they wrinkle easily, and some of them don’t feel that flattering on skin. So we have been looking for new materials to blend with or completely replace them, trying to create “perfect” materials which overcome the flaws that natural materials originally have. When we talk about “perfect”, there is always a standard up there to reach. Think about the assembly lines in modern industry – everything goes through the mold, coming out as uniformed shape and quality. Anything that has even a nuance will be marked as “defective” and tossed out. The standard of “perfect” is just like that mold. In the chase of being perfect, a lot of our unique characteristics are inevitably lost. However, looking around in the natural world, are you able to find two things that are exactly the same? The answer is no. Everything has its distinctive character in the natural world. This is the same in the old-fashioned hand manufacture. Take a look at my 28 scarves of this fall, each of them is one of a kind made by hand. You may find a knot in the middle of one scarf or the ones of the same pattern may be slightly different in width and length, every single scarf is unique, just like you, him, her, and me in natural world. See, perfection is uniform but flaws can even be different from other flaws. It is the flaw rather than the perfection that marks a unique character. Are you one of the flawless molds in the assembly line or would you rather be the one of a kind imperfectionist? Smiling Bear SLow Fashion

The color of this fall is: ROUGE. What is rouge? Is it red? Is it pink? The ambiguous anwers make it a mysterious color. Imagine it is the blush on a young girl’s face or it is a feminine color coming from a flower under the afternoon sun. Autumn does not always need to be yellow and orange, right?

WOOL CARE TIPS As one of the natural materials, wool is from the skin of sheep and is made of protein. It relatively delecate compared with man-made materials. It needs some special care: 1, NEVER toss your wool scarf in the washing machine! It will completely damage your scarf! 2, When hand-washing your wool scarf, use GENTLE soap or detegent and don’t use hot water. 3, If you go out with your wool scarf to a bbq party and it smells like bbq after the party, simply hang your scarf in the place where ventilation is good but avoid the place directly under the sun. 4, Dry clean is preferred. Make sure to mention it is wool. 5, Other than protein, some wool products might contain some fat which would be the ideal food for bugs. So before you store the wool scarf in the closet, make sure it is clean and dry. 6, DO NOT wash your wool scarf too often. In my memory, wool was care-free. My mom only takes care of our wool sweaters once a year before we put them away unless someone splashed something on the sweater. My mom would just iron them with steam and lay them flat in the ventilable balcony, and that’s it. Maybe wool used to be living so it is self-care,lol.

This pattern has very clear structure like a series of fish bones, so I call it the “fishbone pattern.

The pine tree color feels strong, fresh and calm. It reminds me of the mornings I spent in the forest where there are always fresh air and humming birds. Like the evergreen pine tree, the color is never out of date.
