CHILDREN’S ART MUSEUM APRI L 2 0 1 7
STUDIO 04 DESIGN PROJECT PROFESSOR TROY N. PETERS SOPHOMORE YEAR
Desc r iptio n The concept of this project is weaving. I chose this as a concept because of its distinct presence in the children’s book I was asked to select to study and dissect, The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. The idea of weaving and intersection is made physical through the facade and abstract in the programmatic relationships within. The experience is intended to move from formal to informal spaces and have interactions appropriate to each space associated with them. In this project, I also expanded my library of techniques and art medium by experimenting with use of color through watercolor painting. I worked iteratively to create a watercolor painting that was concept driven to use for my facade use.

This was a two week long project assigned to familiarize with libraries or museums for the previously listed project, the Children’s Art Museum. VIIPURI L IBRARY ALVAR AALTO CLIENT: City of Viipuri Me and my team had created a beautiful scaled section model of the Viipuri Library. The analysis of this building has inspired much of my design. What I appreciated most is the subtly in design to get the natural occurrences around the site to work and function for the building’s use and need. The simplicity of design really enhanced the experience inside and out. The building’s form both contrasts and respects the surrounding landscape.

I exaggerated wine cases to make partition walls, acting as a visual barrier between spaces and adding aesthetic to spaces more focused on wine rather than back of house business. Additionally, I had drafted by hand all of the drawings.

STUDIO 03 DESIGN PROJECT PROFESSOR JACK COCHRAN SOPHOMORE YEAR
Desc r iptio n This project had two parts, the first on being a series of interventions and the second being a building used for classrooms and exhibits. The main objective of this studio project was to develop a relationship between design and the ground. The Chestnut Hill Reservoir is a place for joggers, scenery, and nature walks. What I wanted to focus on the most was how to articulate an experience that was the least invasive to the topology and tectonic as well as educational and functional.

The most important thing to me was that I tried to manipulate the direction of rainfall to make for a unique roof or surface in the simplest form. Program is designer defined by providing shelter, gathering, bathrooms, and small group spaces Pictured above is a site plan of the four interventions.

Desc r iptio n The addition of this building to Berklee’s campus would accommodate a need for multiple types of program in one multi-use building. This project was focused around acoustics in the performance hall and familiarizing ourselves with egress code and bathroom code. CLIENT: Berklee College of Music When designing this project, my main objective to draw people in from the corner of Boylston St and Massachusetts Ave. The concept was based on a series of planes which contained a level of public access to private program. I was able to utilize the sun for light and heat. I was able to maintain an open floor plan with spanning elements and load bearing walls. Additionally, the program was intended for a new multi-use building, including: Classrooms, Offices, Practice Rooms, Electronic Labs, Library, Cafe, and Lounge Space.

SPACE PLANNING SCHEMATIC DESIGN PROJECT MANAGER ALEX ADKINS DIMELLA SHAFFER
Desc r iptio n This schematic design was designed and drawn by me for an office floor of Berklee College of Music. We used as consultants to in house architects at Berklee. My biggest concern when on a site visit was the lack of sunlight and quality of space. I worked with Alex to determine a few options that had their own pro’s and con’s. The project is currently under construction.
