Who Runs the World? First and foremost I wish to thank those that made this issue possible. We are back again, the second issue is here! I am happy to say that the magazine is getting better and better every day. This all thanks to those amazing submissions we get every week from talented artists. No matter what language we speak or what county we live in, art is a universal language where feelings and visions can be portrayed through an image. I wish to give an opportunity to different artists and decided to add a beauty section. This particular section will be used to feature beauty spreads, detailing the makeup artist’s work and favorite makeup products. So be creative and send us your work. Jessica Rowell from J-Chan’s designs will be part of our new section “Artist of the month”. I decided to add this section to acknowledge the hard work and talent of the artiste. I hope that this will help them expose their work and expand their brand. If you wish to be part of this section, please send us your story or links of your work to be considered. We are experiencing an era of gender-bending deviance. Where femininity has reached an all-time high; with a chic emphasize on the man. Smudging the ambiguous line between female empowerment and androgyny—we’ll celebrate with a bold lip and bushy brow. The love for a woman with timeless Kate Moss cheek bones is nothing new. We’ve admired the indulgence of women draped in men’s clothing for decades but its significance has never been more prevailing than now. Particularly in the beauty industry. 90’s minimalism is back in full force. This season we want dewy skin, bare lids, and popsicle stained mouths. We want naturally textured hair—cropped or knotted into an unruly bun. The modern woman is chic. She’s multi-facited. Busy at work and home, squeezing in time at the gym and some what a social life. And so when it comes to makeup, it’s all about embracing her natural beauty and added a deep cherry colored lip to keep things exciting. Who has time for eyebrow waxing and smoky eyes? Instead we’ll preserve those for special occasions and dinner date. So let’s embrace the rise of the working woman. Because let’s face it, girls do it better than boys. By: Imani Love - Beauty editor

Olga Zavershinskaya We discovered Olga at a social network site. Her profile photo called our attention right way, it was a blonde, long haired young girl. She was wearing the famous “cone of shame” and holding a cat. We started digging for more information about this girl, the more we were looking on her website the more we were falling in love with her work. The images involved a lot of different shapes, carbon props and amazing black & white nudity. So we decided to get in touch with Olga. When we told her about our magazine and what we had in mind for this issue she quickly responded. Olga Zavershinskaya was born in Voronezh, Russia. But for now she lives and works in Czech Republic. Her passion for photography started in 2007 . We discovered that Olga not only likes to be the photographer on set, she also likes to do the model’s hair, makeup and styling. There were only three things that we needed to know. DiModa: Where do you get your inspiration from? Olga: I find inspiration in any kind of visual info, starting from a walk down the street to going to the movies. DiModa: Besides photography, what other activities/hobbies do you do? Olga: I do not have a lot of free time not connected with photography, usually i spend my free time editing or working on personal photo projects. But if i have an our free i read. Toy Guns and Denim An Interview with Jessica Rowell for J- Chan’s Designs Although a majority of her market rests within the valleys of Los Angeles she caught our attention when we began recognizing her thematic headdresses garnishing some of our favorite local models; with neon-colored toy guns, pine cones, and refurbished Christmas ornaments it’s hard to ignore such a refined talent. We started doing a little digging. Jessica Rowell, a self-proclaimed artist “re-identified her purpose as a Costumier by realizing the needs of her evolving collective of collaborators and clientele.” But we wanted to know a little more, so we set up a Starbucks coffee date to chat. The day of, in walks a woman with pink- ombre’d hair and floral pants, a pair of worn snow boots and a sequined cardigan. You’d expect a big flashy personality to go along with her personal style and brand but after a quick forty-five minute interview we learned that she allows the clothes to do the talking.

DiModa: So when did you start designing clothes? Jessica Rowell: When I was fifteen I began designing anime and fantasy costumes for cosplayers who attended thematic conventions and annual events, it eventually escalated into the work that I produce today. DiModa: Is that where you find most of your inspiration? Jessica Rowell: My earlier works were primarily inspired by Japanese street-wear and subculture, but today my designs don’t necessarily uphold a generalized theme. Instead, each individual piece is more-so a reflection of my surroundings. DiModa: Well, we know you travel to Tinsel Town a lot. How did you start getting involved with people on the coast?

Jessica Rowell: Networking is a huge part of what I do; when I was younger I dedicated a majority of my time to developing connections beyond Denver. Los Angeles showed the most interest in my work, so becoming involved in their community was natural. DiModa: Who are some of the people that you’ve worked with? Jessica Rowell: Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with several talented artists, most notably with photographers Austin Young and Allan Amato, and more recently with celebrity fashion blogger and model Audrey Kitching. DiModa: Wow! Where do you see J- Chan’s Designs heading? Jessica Rowell: Sometime this year I plan to re-locate to Los Angeles, but eventually I’d like to transition to New York as well as strengthen my market overseas in London, Paris and Milan. DiModa: That’s great. What kinds of materials have you been working with lately? Jessica Rowell: Lately I’ve been using a lot old recycled denim jeans. I have a love for lace appliqués which I’ve started to incorporate in my recent pieces. I don’t limit myself to one particular style, print, or fabric. Each piece that I create is personalized to how I feel or where I’m at in any given moment.
And with that, the interview was over. She allowed us to dig into her trunk of treasures and experience the nostalgia of each hand made piece; it was evident to us that the quintessential fantasy of fashion is still Ameri thriving. J- Chan Designs goes against the all- American casually chic aesthetic and evokes something a little more emotional. Her label is a clear affirmation that the future is now.
