Our homes have been thoughtfully designed to work with the natural contours of the terrain and to fully take advantage of the Costa Rican landscape. Each unit is fully integrated with its surroundings and graacefully blends the interior and exterior spaces, while creating the feeling of living at one with nature. Kalia is committed to ecological & energy conservation. The windows and doors in each home are strategically located to achieve maximum cross ventilation. Green roofing systems filter pollutants and CO2 out of the air, reduce stormwater run off, and regulate the indoor temperature, while each home is independently cooled by the breezes flowing off the pools and other water features. Gray water recycling systems store and provide water for the yard and surrounding landscapes, and solar energy powers the electricity that runs the water heater as well as the pool. Every appliance and electrical equipment has an "energy star" rating. Our interiors are free of the harmful off-gases created from the use of unhealthy paints and furniture glues, and all furniture is fabricated using natural and environmentally responsible materials. Our specially designed houses have a minimal impact on the land. Each house has a low impact foundation system that is incorporated with a smart structure pre-ordered to size and assembled on site in a manner that minimizes the use of heavy machinery and reduces waste. Kalia has also designed the villages with respect for the local culture in mind. Our villages have been thoughtfully designed to facilitate interaction with the local community and to support trade and culture.
