UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO TOUR GUIDE
AUGUST 2015-MAY 2016
STUDENT CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANT
MAY 2016
I was a tour guide for large groups ranging from 15-40 people on UB’s main North Campus. As part of this position I was also involved in the UB Stars program with office hours once a week. These office hours focused on the scheduling, budgeting, and branding for the betterment of admissions. Worked on the construction of Ang Li’s ‘No Frills’ site specific installation of a 13 foot tall terracotta column for the 2016 Echo Art Fair. This involved working with a small team to assemble an inner steel structure, silicon hinges, followed by attaching various scales of terracotta panels to clad the full column.
STUDENT ASSEMBLY ASSISTANT
JULY 2016-SEPTEMBER 2016
In charge of the post processing and assembly of Coryn Kempster and Julia Jamrozik’s Hayes Hall Gallery Units. I specifically worked on buffing, polishing, countersinking, and the attaching of corian panels to the adaptable gallery units. This also involved the organization and budgeting of process materials used to complete the units.
UB PEER MENTOR/TEACHING ASSISTANT
AUGUST 2015-DECEMBER 2015
Worked as both a peer mentor and teaching assistant for UB 101; the Freshman Introductory Seminar. As a peer mentor I was in charge of meeting with, and guiding a group of 30 students during their transition from high school to college. As a teaching assistant to the two main professors I participated in lesson planning, grading, and teaching classes every third week.
ACTIVITIES: ALPHA RHO CHI PRESIDENT DECEMBER 2016-DECEMBER 2017 I led the Senenmut Chapter of Alpha Rho Chi; the coed professional fraternity for architecture and the allied arts. I governed over and managed this non-profit, coeducational, and volunteer-based organization with the intention of promoting excellence in education, student involvement, and service within the school of architecture and planning. I helped organize, host, and budget for events such as Pecha Kucha, Beaux Arts Ball, ActivAtrium Curation, B/a+p Annual BBQ, and Buffalo Architecture Firm Visits. ALPHA RHO CHI MEMBER AUGUST 2015-PRESENT During my time as a brother I have held the positions of professional committee member, recruitment chair, and superintendent. In these positions I have been challenged to coordinate professional events, manage meetings according to Roberts rules of order, update the fraternities constitution and by laws, as well as fostering the interest of underclassmen with professional and social events with the intent of recruiting new members. EUROPEAN TRAVEL EXPERIENCE AUGUST 2017 After studying abroad in Spain, three architecture students and I embarked on a travel experience in southern Europe with a mission to see, sketch, and learn from important works of architecture ranging from ancient to contemporary. I explored Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy to learn from the works of architects such as Corbusier, Mies, Foster, Morphosis and many more. Being able to see buildings in person, that I previously learned about in lecture, allowed me to critically analyze and discuss these spaces at a higher degree. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VOLUNTEER MAY2015-JUNE2015 Worked as a construction volunteer on a Habitat for Humanity site in the city of Buffalo. I helped construct three timber frame homes while learning the classic construction skills of framing, sheathing, bracing trusses, installing insulation and putting up dry wall. SENIOR CLASS PRESIDENT MAY2013-MAY2014 After running a 3 month long campaign I was voted to be class president for 670+ senior students. I worked side by side with the student activities coordinator and principal in order to plan school wide events and increase student involvement. It was also my responsibility to lead by example for the underclassman. I also organized and led public speaking workshops for students interested in pursuing student government positions.
