Relief India Trust: Challenging Patriarchy And Breaking Stereotypes Stereotyping in regards to gender starts at birth when it is confirmed, it is a girl. This emotional, sexual and psychological feeling goes along the way till one is old enough. In India, lies the Relief India Trust, a social welfare organization looking into the affairs of all needy and less privileged members in the society including the women, children, disabled and old aged. As concerns women, this organization works for their welfare and empowerment breaking the stereotyping that has existed for so long. It is through challenging the cultural norms that women’s rights get to be observed and respected by other members of the society; this is the principle with which the trust works to bring the much needed change with regards to women’s status across India and other parts of the world.

Each year, millions of girls disappear from India’s population simply because of systematic gender discrimination in the country. Today, there are at most 93 women for every 100 men in India, directly opposite with other countries of the world. There are many other disparities experienced in India, including the unpopular payment of huge amounts in the form of dowry when a female child is married. For this reason many families never wish to get the female children because of the impending financial ruins in the future which may lead to even more hardship.

The above described condition is affecting the society negatively as the country is getting ready for a strategic elimination of this gender from the country. This is quite sad in the 21 st century, an information age when such practices are quite unfortunate and uncalled for. While other parts of the world are embracing and supporting the female gender, discrimination is looming in India subjecting them into hard conditions. There are many women in the world today who have become successful and confident to handle matters that even the male gender cannot. Some countries have even elected women as presidents in their countries. This is the trust and respect that women should be given the same as the male gender. Through Relief India Trust, there is now more awareness than ever before and fighting the system of patriarchy day in day out until all women gets the same privileges and opportunities the same way as men in the country. It is not a surprise that some women have done great things in life than even the men haven't; why then should we look down upon their contribution and role they play to improve the social well being of the country?

Domestic violence, issues of dowry and infanticide are among the serious problems facing women in India today. The fact is that despite the efforts welfare organizations are putting to eliminating these challenges, the activities are confirmed to many rural and backward sections of the Indian society. The

educated, respected and highly placed families in the society also undertake these activities. It is quite sad, but the Relief India Trust is taking the lead to fight the discrimination to the end. Until male dominance and women discrimination changes in the society, the future of women is in danger.

With a team of educated, bold and enterprising women participating in this organization, the trust believes it can bring the changes in the system and improve the condition of women in the Indian society. Other problems faced by women where legal recourse is possible are handled by expert lawyers, so that all responsible members of the crimes are held responsible and charged. By fighting for the women rights including the right to education, Relief India trust is slowly but gradually advancing to eliminating various vices facing the women in the society.
