Thalassemia program at Relief India Trust The Relief India Trust is contributing in many ways to the improvement of overall life in India. It is largely focusing on the health issues of people who cannot afford proper medical care for their selves and their children. The Relief India Trust has started a comprehensive program for the patients of Thalassemia. The treatment of this disease mainly depends upon the blood donation. A hard working team of RIT manages different activities in different parts of the country to encourage people to donate blood.
About Thalassemia: Thalassemia is generally considered as the inherited abnormality of blood. Patients of thalassemia have less red blood cells which affect the way body produces hemoglobin. This could result in life threatening complications such as bone deformities, abnormal growth and abnormal breath. The patient having major kind of thalassemia needs a blood transfusion once after two or maximum three weeks. The treatment of thalassemia largely depends upon the blood transfusion. It becomes excessively difficult for poor people to arrange blood for their children suffering from thalassemia.
Support Thalassemia Program of RIT: Patients of thalassemia have to transfuse blood on a regular basis for the sake of survival. Lack of resources and extreme poverty makes it almost impossible for them to keep providing new blood to their children. It is inevitable and, ironically, have no alternatives for that. The Relief India Trust has been struggling hard to provide blood for those children through its thalassemia support program. It gives RIT a whole new challenging environment. These are some lines on which Relief India Trust sets its struggle to help children suffering from Thalassemia. •
Thorough medical checkups
•
Heavy blood donation activities
•
Free medicines and treatment
•
Iron supplements and therapies
It requires an immense level of strength and courage to stand against the harsh circumstances. The Relief India Trust has been doing a great job in developing awareness about health issues through its own initiatives like Thalassemia support.
Genetic Counselling: Genetic diseases can be avoided if a couple goes through a medical counselling before marriage. The Relief India Trust carries out this service successfully by offering free Genetic counselling to
the poor couple. Only after a complete medical check-up, alternative or preventions can be recommended. The Relief India Trust is, undoubtedly, bringing a positive change in the mindset of the underprivileged class of India. It has a dedicated team of competent doctors, therapists, and nurses to carry out its health improvement programs like thalassemia support. RIT forms different communities to reach as far as possible so that no children can die of hopelessness. Medical attention is not the only service RIT provides to the patients of thalassemia. It offers lots of recreational activities to the patients. Such projects reflect the significance of the sincere efforts of RIT in an environment where people hardly can afford to live a healthy life. It is important to mention that thalassemia support program is just one of the many health related projects run by RIT. It also focuses on other major diseases and an overall awareness to help improve the bad health conditions.
