ASEAN CHARTER  

 

A legal framework that codifies ASEAN norms, rules and values, and reaffirms its agreements and instruments. Adopted on 20 November 2007. Entered into force on 15 December 2008. ASEAN henceforth operates under a legal framework and has established a number of new organs to boost its community-building process.

CHALLENGES FOR ASEAN COMMUNITY  ASEAN’s economy will need to grow;  Ensuring that its rules-based mechanisms are respected and utilised;  Realising the goals contained in the Blueprints of the 3 ASEAN Pillars by 2015;  ‘ASEAN Centrality’ continues to be accepted by all;  Potential Great Power competition;  Bilateral difficulties; and  Differences in worldviews of members.

 Develop ASEAN Post-2015 Vision;  Host ASEAN Meetings/Summits/Commemorative Summit;  Ensure the implementation of the APSC Blueprint, AEC Blueprint and ASCC Blueprint; and  Establishment of ASEAN Community.
