When looking at Mies Van Der Rohe projects, what comes into my mind that you can take structure, and put it whereever you want, and it still remains the same old structure. Even though I am fascinated by modern architecture , and Mies Van Der Rohe’s job, his style is a bit cold and rigid to me, and mostly doesn’t represent its surrounding. Next 5 pages represents my thought about the building itself, and what if it was more vibrant, more like its surrounding. I used blackwhite photos of building, as I wanted to feel the building easier and sort of walk around it to have a better sense.

At very first glance, I would say there is nothing similar between Shiraz and Berlin. Though when looking closer, there are many things visually that links these two cities to each othere. First and most important thing is that big portion of these two cities covered with greenery. Both city are rich in hstory and went through too many things. Fashion, art, and architecture emerged from the vibrant culture of them and became an integral part of its identity and global influence. Both Citiy were house of many philosopher and poets. Shiraz is know for its cypress trees, all over the city, gardens, vibrant architecture, and Qashqaei Carpets, that are knitted by local people and its predominant color is yellow. In next 5 collages I have tried to show SHIRAZ in BERLIN - Purpose of creating them was to help audience gain a better understanding of Shiraz.

Next 5 collages are representing my initial thoughts about adding a new portion to the Neue Nationalgalerie. There are questions circling around my head. Do I want to keep building as it is? Is it still Mies Van Der Rohe’s building after renovation? I think still its his design - Should I respect the masterpiece designed by Mies Van Der Rohe? Or I cam simply relocate part of existing building. What I would like to add to the project from my local environment, Shiraz to the project? Nature of the Berlin’s structure is rigid with straight lines, do I really want to have a curvish building? Does that jaxtopoze looks interesting and inviting?
