Zaha Hadid

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Dame Zaha Hadid studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut before moving to London in 1972 to attend the Architectural Association (AA) School where she was awarded the Diploma Prize in 1977. Hadid’s outstanding contribution to the architectural and design profession continues to be acknowledged by the world’s most respected institutions including the Forbes List of the ‘World’s Most Powerful Women’ and the Japan Art Association presenting her with the ‘Praemium Imperiale’. She is the only female architect to be awarded the Pritzker Prize (considered the Nobel Prize of architecture) which she received in 2004. Zaha Hadid was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 and she was awarded the 2016 Royal Gold Medal, given in recognition of a lifetime’s work. Challenging the status quo through experimentation and research were at the core of Zaha Hadid’s approach, and remain a fundamental guiding principle of both practices — architecture and design. The Zaha Hadid brand is synonymous, and remains a global leader, in architectural and design innovation, and progression.

Collection 2016 utilises contrast as a key element, exploring both the use of colour and materiality simultaneously. Fine bone china and ceramic are combined with modern resins and acrylics. What unifies this collection is the emphasis of the language of fluidity and seemliness in design; influenced by organic processes in nature and dynamic in form these pieces are unmistakably Zaha Hadid in their intent.

Prime

The Prime scented candles integrate the solid structural form of a crafted multipurpose container, with delicately blended and fragranced premium soy and paraffin candle wax. At first appearing as an opaque satin surface, the underlying translucency of Prime’s fine ceramic structure becomes increasingly visible as the wax melts away, revealing the interdependence between Prime’s skeletal structure and its smooth flowing skin. Dinner Ser vice

Beam

Zaha Hadid was inspired by the Russian Suprematist artistic movement from the 1920s and in particular the work of one of its leading visionaries, Kazimir Malevich. This range of fine bone china dinnerware is applying a visual abstraction of the Suprematist approach to both space and form, on its surface. The set is accented with gold leaf, and consists of a dinner plate, side plate, soup bowl, tea cup, and saucer. *Made in England

Field of Towers

The Field of Towers Chess Set represents the intense research and evolutionary processes within Hadid’s architecture. The individual towers articulate the various points of adaptation and possible iterations explored for each project. Each piece takes on its own persona — the elegant, shapely Queen; the King with his crownlike peaks and stature. Collectively, they form a map of the many stages of development and research Hadid undertook for each of her architectural projects. *Made in England

Z– Play ll

Z-Play II is a modular seating system that allows for the creation of lounging landscapes. The two sections form a cube that can be split to create different ‘free-form’ configurations of seating or side table elements. As the name suggests, the pieces are designed to be flexible in their use, and they generate a surprisingly diverse range of sculptural shapes — placed back-to-back as armchairs or reconnected for use as an occasional table. *Made in England
