Looking for a way to have fun and to help out the environment? There is lots to do and learn when it comes to being sustainable. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the everyday lives of Canadians, but the good news is that physical distancing and staying at home has helped Canadians plan more and waste less food! This has been great for the environment and is helping Canadians save money. Follow these tips to prevent food waste: • Make a meal plan for the week ahead. • Check what food is in the house before shopping. • Make a shopping list. You can also extend the shelf life of food by freezing it and getting creative to use up leftovers more often. For recipes and other tips, visit Kamloops.ca/LFHW.
COMMUNITY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN The Community Climate Action Plan will set the direction for reducing local greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. Taking action on climate change in our community has many positive health, social, and economic benefits, including improved air quality from decreased vehicle congestion, job creation in green building and housing retrofits, and reduced costs to heat and cool high performance buildings. In spring 2021, a final round of community engagement will be conducted before presenting the final plan to Council. For more information and upcoming engagement opportunities, visit LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/ClimateAction.
WOOD STOVE EXCHANGE PROGRAM REBATES The opportunity to upgrade your old, uncertified wood-burning appliance to a new low-emission heating option is back! City residents may be eligible to receive up to $1,100 in rebates. Operating in partnership with the BC Lung Association and the Government of BC, the Wood Stove and Fireplace Rebate Program aims to replace old, smoky wood stoves with cleaner technology, including electric inserts or heat pumps, EPA-certified wood or pellet appliances, and EnerChoice nautral gas options. To see if you qualify, visit Kamloops.ca/WoodStove.
RENOVATE SMART KAMLOOPS Are you planning a home renovation? Renovate Smart Kamloops will help you get the most out of your renovation.
