Our tournament continues to see wonderful support offered by the local community and we’re excited to have eight exceptional teams participating who will play some thrilling semi-professional baseball right here in Kamloops. A big thank you goes out to our volunteers who work tirelessly to put together this weekend and to our supporters and sponsors, because this tournament does not happen without them. KAMLOOPS SUN DEVILS

NORTHWEST HONKERS
The Sun Devils have won a provincial championship in 2015 and finished 3rd at Nationals in 2016. As the host team, it’s always special for hometown fans to watch their hometown players hit the field in the summer after watching them play at TRU. Head coach Ray Chadwick will be leading the team with assistant Rob Morrison and this year, the Sun Devils will be armed with TRU’s top pitcher, Tyler Moskalyk, who is also our number one pitcher. Our biggest competition is the Seattle Studs. We often play them in the semifinal which is really fun, and we prepare ourselves by trying to play them outside of the tournament at least once. Although all our players are from B.C. and the area, it is a big time and financial commitment for them to be on this team. But they LOVE it and wouldn’t change a thing!
In 2010, a group of friends who didn’t want to be done playing baseball after college formed this team, and here we are almost 10 years later! (Big shout out to Jocelyn Lawrence, Jesse Bechtold and Jordan Padilla who help run our team along with me). We’ve been coming to KIBT since 2011 and our best finishes were 3rd in 2011 and 2017. With KIBT, the atmosphere is amazing and it’s also where a lot of great memories are made. The tournament staff are unbelievable, and it takes so much to pull something like this off with grace and class. We are looking forward to playing the Kamloops Sun Devils under the lights on July 5th. That is always such a gritty battle for us because they are a well-organized team and always play tough. And fans, please come talk to us. My players are 100% approachable. We love being in Canada, we love meeting new people and these tough guy ball players absolutely melt when kids want them to sign autographs.
- Alex Reid, President of the Kamloops Sun Devils
- Martin Lawrence, Team Manager of the Northwest Honkers KIBT 2019 | 46th Annual
CALGARY DINOS
SEATTLE STUDS
This is the Calgary Dinos’ first season as a summer team, although the University of Calgary’s team has been around for 15 years. Tony Wyllie is our head coach and Drew Miller, Mike Payne, and me are assistants. This is our first year in the tournament and fans can look forward to seeing; Jordan Wong, a former MLB draft pick and Canadian Junior National team player, Jordan Smith a Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) first team allstar in 2018, and Chris Cook, a 2nd team all-star in the CCBC in 2019. We may also have former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Simon Pond join us for the tournament! In terms of competition, we’re definitely looking forward to playing the Seattle Studs - they are always a strong team – and our goal this year is to make it to money round. We are also looking forward to our first game verses the Sun Devils in Kamloops!
The Seattle Studs have played in four national championships since 2008, winning twice in 2013 and 2015 while I was head coach and took 2nd in the other two. We’ve been playing in KIBT since 1981 and have won 15 times. This year, fans should be on the lookout for our Centre Fielder, Landon Ricker. He is our #3 hitter and has just finished his junior year of college. We also have great pitching, which is often how we win combined with great defense, but Landon is a fantastic offensive player for us. I am the head coach and have three assistants, David Denton, Chris Remington and Steve Potter. Our biggest competition is Everett and Fairbanks and we play them a lot and have a great rivalry! We love Canada - the weather is guaranteed to be great and the competition is fantastic, plus we also enjoy playing for that prize money!
- Geoff Freeborn, Assistant Coach Calgary Dinos
- Barry Aden, Head Coach of the Seattle Studs

EVERETT MERCHANTS
The Everett Mechants formed in 1973 and we are coached by Harold Payette and Assistants Beau Blacken, Mike MacCulloch, and Brandon Mahovlich. Our biggest accomplishments as a team are that we have won the National Baseball Congress tournament in 1988 and won KIBT just last year. Our first appearance at KIBT was in 1971 as the Washington All Stars and we took first place, so Kamloops has been great for us. We attend because it is a very strong tournament with many great players, some who have gone on to play in the major leagues. KIBT fans can look for Max Whitt, our All Star 3rd baseman, and Koby Blunt, our Outfielder who can throw 90mph! Our team is looking forward to playing our biggest contenders, the Goldpanners and the Studs. - Harold Payette, General Manager/ Coach of the Everett Merchants
10
EDMONTON CUBS
We are looking forward to playing in our first KIBT ever! Our team is coached by Greg Olsen, and I’m the player/ assistant coach. This is our 7th year in existence and our greatest accomplishment is playing in the Sunburst Men’s AAA league for Alberta. Fans can look forward to seeing several of our key players; Tony Olsen, who is a UBC T-Birds Grad, Bo Micaeljon who is going to a D2 University in the fall, and Cory Scammel, a former Mariners draft pick and minor leaguer who also played for Canada’s Junior National Team. We’re excited to be a part of KIBT because we know the weather will be beautiful, it’s a great ball diamond, and the competition is fantastic. - Dan Chappel, Assistant Coach Edmonton Cubs
KIBT 2019 | 46th Annual
COQUITLAM ANGELS
The Angels have been around since 1976. This will be our first time at KIBT as the Coquitlam Angels and we are very excited to get a chance to play in one of the best summer tournaments around. We have a lot of really good players, some who have played in college and others who are currently in college. In 2018, we won the Baseball Canada Senior Men’s Nationals coached by Head Coach Kevin Powell, and Assistant Coaches Jeff Honeysett, Jack Thompson, and me. We are looking forward to playing at KIBT to give us some experience and hopefully help us out the rest of the year leading into our provincials. In terms of competition, the U.S. teams are always tough to beat. The Studs, Merchants, and Goldpanners are storied clubs and have had a lot of success in these types of tournaments. - Shawn Schaefer, Assistant Coach of the Coquitlam Angels Kamloops International Baseball Tournament
ALASKA GOLDPANNERS OF FAIRBANKS We are coached by Miles Kizer with assistants Tyler Graham and Branson Trube. The club formed in 1960, so this is our 60th season as a team! We’ve won six National Baseball Congress tournaments in our history and we love participating in competitive tournaments and playing independently. We enjoy playing in KIBT because we love coming back to Kamloops – it’s expensive to travel from Alaska but we enjoy B.C. and the opportunity to compete in such a good competition! This year, KIBT fans should look for Christian Jones on our team. He is a Junior Washington State and the #1 high school player in 2016. We really hope to play our best and put on a good show for the fans, plus we look forward to playing the Seattle Studs, our biggest competition. - John Lohrke, General Manager of the Alaska Goldpanners

KIBT 2019 | 46th Annual
The Story of KIBT It was 1973 when the dreams of Gary Cameron, Art Worth, and Lynn Bylund to host the best semi-pro baseball tournament in Canada became a reality. Today the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament, sponsored by Sussex Insurance, is played at beautiful Norbrock Stadium. This state of the art facility is one of the finest ballparks in Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Teams compete for prize money and the coveted Gary Cameron Memorial Trophy. In the early years, fans had the chance to see future major league stars like Floyd Bannister and Ken Phelps. In the 80s, teams like the Gonzaga Bulldogs, University of Washington Husky Fever, and the Washington State Cougars provided class performances. In 1988 the Cougars featured a young John Olerud who not
only won the batting title, but also pitched a no-hitter and a one-hitter against fierce competition. Year after year teams like the Seattle Studs, Everett Merchants, and Northwest Honkers provide the tournament with outstanding competition. Teams have found KIBT is not a tournament that is easy to win. As attractive as the prize money is, it is the level of competition as the field is narrowed to the final day that excites players and fans alike. To quote Dean Padar, a former player, “When I got my first hit and stood at 1st base, with the screaming fans and all the adrenaline, I felt like a rock star. There is no other feeling like it! Hats off to our volunteers! KIBT is run entirely by volunteers and we are so appreciative of their efforts! Proceeds from the tournament
