SBB WORKSHOPS 2020 - 4 WORKSHOPS / 25 BOYS IN EACH

Boys are worried about their future wellbeing and understanding and maintaining their overall health. The theme for 2020 Conference is “knowledge builds confidence and certainty”. Understanding anxiety, depression, fear of the unknown or wanting to know how boys can understand their place in the world a bit better, this year’s SBB Conference will be focused on being the healthiest – physical, mental and emotional - person you can be! These topics will be addressed in each workshop.

1-Brain-storm-in’

Our perceptions of our self in the world drive all aspects of our health. In this workshop the boys will make masks depicting how I see myself vs how the world sees me. Discussion will explore who they are as people; and examine how our nervous system works to keep us healthy.

32

2-Mighty Movement

Exploring the power and value of movement! Movement isn’t just a fantastic physical release – it can be an emotional outlet that can be a joyful one. Channel your inner Rockstar with this drum inspired workout and tap into how it makes your body feel.

3-Seeds of Change

Ground to home! Learn about where your food comes from, learn some simple healthy but tasty recipes to make when you are home alone to give yourself more choices. Have fun planting a little garden to take home to continue to watch it grow until you can eat it.

4-Fun(damentals) of Life There are lots of things that can cause stress when you are young; the future and all it has to hold should not be one of them. This is an opportunity to be a part of planning the actual conference; girls will decide on what workshops would have the biggest impact on them, who they would like to have as a keynote speaker, what activities they would enjoy at lunch – and even decide what to have for lunch! The girls will have fun and be encouraged to use their voice while developing planning and leadership skills. Space is limited so sign up soon! Note: The girls are asked to make a 10-week commitment which includes Spring dates, Fall dates and, of course the PBG conference itself! The planning group begins in the spring when the bulk of the planning takes place, and continues in the fall so that they so that can be a part of helping with some of the tasks needed to produce the event.

CHANGE FOR 2020: historically the Power of Being a Girl Conference has been created for girls aged 12-14. Taking into consideration the significant change in culture in earlier development of girls, earlier intervention and prevention has become more important. In 2020, PBG Planning and Conference will be open to girls aged 11-13 and in 2021, the ages will shift to 10-12. This sliding age scale is to ensure that girls who were looking forward to coming and thought they were still in the age range, will not miss out in the planning of PBG or in the Conference.
