JUDGE RULES • The Arena Director, Whipman and Head Drum Judges will choose judges for all competitions. • If a judge is caught judging a relative, their ballot will be considered invalid. • All decisions will be final, i.e., you cannot change your decision once it has been submitted to the Head Staff for tallying; and • Be sure of the numbers, write down the numbers clearly, and sign each ballot.
DANCE RULES • Each contestant will be judged • All contestants must be registered on skill, dress, and dance ability. before the start of the 12:00 noon Judging will be strictly on a grand entry on Saturday, July 30, point system, beginning on 2022, and must wear the number Grand Entry Friday as follows: issued to them (there will be no late registration of dancers). - 1st Grand Entry: 75 points - 2nd to 4th Grand Entry: 50 points • Dancers must self-identify - Spot Checks/Exhibitions: 25 points as Indigenous. - 1st place: 50 points • All dance numbers must be visible - 2nd place: 25 points to the judges and tabulators during - 3rd place: 15 points the competitions and grand entries. - 4th place: 10 points • All contestants must be in grand - Tie Breaker: 1 point entry to receive points. The only exception is for dancers registered to the host drum(s), for which those dancers must be dressed and are responsible for giving their numbers to the tabulators before grand entry.

• If an eagle feather of a contestant’s regalia falls or is dropped during competition, then they must disqualify themself for that session and may be disqualified by the Arena Director or Whipman if the dancer does not disqualify themselves. • Each contestant can only register in one (1) dance category, with the exception being Specials. • There is zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol if dancers are in the possession or suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they will be disqualified from the contest.

DRUM RULES • All lead singers must register their drum and all the singers with that drum. • There will be no late registration for drums, all drums must be registered before Drum Roll Call at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022. • No singers are allowed to register to more than one (1) drum group, and no drum hopping. • All singers must be present and ready to sing when called upon. Points will be given for drum roll call, intertribal and contest songs. During contest songs, all drums will be allowed four (4) starts, during intertribal songs, all drums will be allowed five (5) leads unless otherwise directed by head staff. • Drummers must keep the drum area clean. • All drums must have a minimum of five (5) singers per group before registration and set up.

• Intertribals will go in left to right drum rotation, and Contest will go in right to left drum rotation. • There are no drugs or alcohol allowed. If drummers are in possession or suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they will be disqualified. • Each drum will be judged on a point system beginning on Friday, July 29, 2022, as follows: - Present at drum roll call: 10 points for each Grand Entry (1 point deducted for each singer missing) - Leads: 5 points (each lead from a different singer is a point) - Starts singing when called upon: 5 points - Singing: 5 points - Drumming: 5 points - Appropriate song: 5 points
PRINCESS PAGEANT RULES • All contestants must be 13 to 17 years old. • Each contestant will be asked to: • Perform one straight dance. • Say a speech on a topic of choice • Perform a talent of choice • Must sell 50/50 tickets starting on Saturday, July 30, 2022 • All contestants will be judged on a point system. There will be a total of one hundred points possible from each judge in five of the follows: - Outfit: 20 points - Dance: 20 points - Speech: 20 points - Talent: 20 points - Poise & Appearance: 20 points - Total: 100 Points • In addition, the 50/50 tickets sold will be calculated out of 100 points and pro-rated for each contestant to their equivalent number of tickets sold. For example, if the least tickets sold = 1000 and the most tickets sold = 5000, then the contestant who sells the least tickets will get 20 points, and the contestant who sells the most tickets will get 100 points. • The successful princess must return the crown; and • The powwow committee will judge the pageant.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION 1) SHOWER FACILITIES: Showers are available. 2) CAMPFIRES: WILL NOT be permitted within any of the camping areas. 3) PARENTS, PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILDREN! 4) PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB: Dancers often leave blankets on the bleachers to reserve their space. Out of respect for the dancers and their families, please do not move or remove any chairs or blankets. 5) RESERVED SEATING: The bleachers to the right and left of the stage are reserved for special guests and elders. The first two rows around the lawn chair seating area are reserved for the dancers and their families. 6) RECORDERS: Recorders must give mike runners priority to all drums. 7) This is an alcohol and drug-free event, strictly enforced by security. 8) Twenty-four (24) Hour First Aid & Security are located at the north entrance.
9) The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and the Kamloopa Powwow Society will not be held responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged articles or injuries. 10) PHOTO TAKING: There are appropriate times and places to take pictures. Please do not take pictures surrounding the judges as it may cause interference with contestant number collection and no video camera set up inside the arbor or around the drum areas. Please turn off cameras during the blowing of whistles or feather pick-ups. 11) PETS: No dogs are permitted in the arbor. 12) PARKING: In the Special Events Facility, parking is run on a first come, first serve basis. Any people leaving, including contestants, during supper break or any other time may not be able to re-enter the facility if it is full to its capacity. 13) SMOKING: No smoking is permitted in the arbor.

• Four veterans will be called upon to do all feather pick-ups. The only exception will be for eagle bustles, fans or a full complete piece that has feathers on it. • No whistles are to be blown during competitions. • Anyone having blown a whistle shall report to the Whipman or the Arena Director; and • There will be no exceptions for fanning a drum.

ARENA DIRECTOR, WHIPMAN & HEAD DRUM/DANCE JUDGE The Arena Director, Whipman and Head Drum/Dance Judge works closely with the M.C.’s to ensure that the powwow runs smoothly; ensuring all contestants are organized during grand entry, competitions/exhibitions and that appropriate songs are chosen for each dance category. The Arena Director chooses all judges and alternates, Whipman and Head Drum/Dance Judge for each session and ensures that all judges adhere to the rules. The Arena Director and Whipman takes care of the arena by making sure that all the children stay off the arena during competitions, specials, honor dances, and ceremonial dances. He also takes care of the dropped eagle feathers when they are on the arena, takes care of the eagle whistles, and lines up the dancers in the grand entries.
