Each resident is guaranteed three home-cooked meals and snacks each day (staff work with residents to prepare meals which accommodate individual likes and dislikes), weekly laundry and

housekeeping services, medication, transportation to appointments as well as numerous activities and events planned for the enjoyment of everyone. Signe and Olivia’s has a Class F housing with service and a Board & Lodging License with State of Minnesota. All their staff are CNA certified and attend ongoing training in order to provide the very best care available. The staff encourages the residents to become involved with some of the daily routines and some of the residents take delight in picking produce from the garden and helping to make coffee when the pot runs empty. The large commons area features books to read, games to play, several chairs and couches for visiting and television viewing and of course the dining room where everyone gathers together for their meals. Numerous outings for residents have already been undertaken including a trip to the Braham Pie Days, the Bock parade, Lemonade Concerts, Mora Senior Dining and regular shopping days. Building Stronger Communities One Person at a

Time

Family Pathways Youth Services supports youth in East Central Minnesota by helping them grow into healthy, caring and responsible adults. Family Pathways Youth Services does this by offering out-of-school programming. Family Pathways Youth Services has four Teen Centers located in Mora, Princeton, Stacy and Forest Lake. The Teen Centers are open five days a week all year long, there is no enrollment fee and youth ages 13-18 are welcome to drop in any time. Teen Centers are equipped with computers, a pool table, foosball, air hockey, XBOX gaming systems and kitchens. Staff are on site at all times to supervise and make sure youth are following the rules. Youth participate in daily activities, crafts, work on homework or work on finding their SPARK. Many youth need help in identifying their interests and strengths–in other words, their SPARK. Staff and volunteers assist youth in working on resumes, developing work skills through volunteer or paid work and creating plans for their futures. Family Pathways Youth Services also has mentoring. Kids First is the traditional mentoring program located in Mora for youth ages 7-17. Adults are matched with youth to encourage them to do well in school and learn social skills to get along with family members and at school. Debra Lawrence is the coordinator for this program and can be reached at (320) 225-0252. Circle of Friends is another mentoring program developed for special needs youth to work on their social skills. Youth in grades 9-12 meet twice a month with peers to do fun activities and learn how to be better friends. Circle of Friends is in 10 school districts: Mora, Princeton, Ogilvie, Hinckley/Finlayson, East Central, Pine City, North Branch, Cambridge/Isanti, Chisago Lakes, and Forest Lake. Family Pathways Youth Services needs warm, friendly, reliable volunteers, must enjoy teens and be able to pass a background check. All volunteers receive individual training. Volunteers help youth develop skills they will carry into their adult life, such as a love for learning, caring about others, learning to say no to peer pressure, learning they can make things happen in their life, instead of life just happening.

Examples of Volunteer Jobs: • Activities: 15-year-old male would like to play pool after school • Crafts: 16-year-old female would like to learn how to sew • Business mentor: 14-year-old male would like to learn how to set up a lawn mowing business • Lunch Buddy: 11-year-old in Mora would like an adult to eat lunch with • Peer Buddy: 16-year-old male with Down syndrome would like a friend.

Volunteers are always needed to work with youth. All youth need at least three adults who care about them and support their dreams to thrive. Many of the youth we work with only have one. Everyone can help youth thrive, all it takes is a smile, some understanding and a little bit of time.

Free Income Tax Preparation Persons who made less than $50,000 last year or who are planning on going to college or send a child to college next year have the opportunity to have federal and state income taxes filed electronically for free and help with completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). JUNE I. GOOR June I. Goor of Henriette died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. She was 85 years old. She was born in Brandon, Iowa, on June 12, 1927, to Jesse and Ruth (Black) White. During WWII, she moved to Portland, Ore., to work in the shipyards. It was there she met and was united in marriage to Jessie I. Anderson on Aug. 13, 1945. After the war they returned to the Anderson Christmas tree farm in Beardstown, Ill. In 1948 they moved to Anoka where they resided until her husband’s death in 1956. On Oct. 11, 1958 she was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Goor of Anoka. The couple moved several times to manage farms in southern Minnesota. In 1961 they returned to Blaine where she worked as a cook at Johnsville

Elementary School. In 1974 she and her husband purchased their own farm near Henriette where they resided until Kenneth’s death in October 1984. During this time June worked as a nursing assistant at Cambridge State Hospital for 20 years. She loved to play the accordion at special events for the hospital residents. In 1989 she was reacquainted with her childhood friend, Robert Workman. She is survived by her long-time companion, Robert Workman; sister, Evelyn (Hunt) Hughes; children, Arlene (Bob) Bennett of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jesse (Maryann) Anderson of Coon Rapids, Rosemany Wylie of Spearfish, S.D., Kathleen Goor (Getachew Geressu) of St Louis Park, Kenneth Eldon (RoAnn) Goor of Henriette and Keith Linden Goor of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Henriette Community Church, 21004 State Hwy 107, Grasston, MN 55030. A private burial will be held at the Ogema Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Burnett County, 7347 Midtown Rd, Siren, WI 54872.
