AND TOWING

Mora Auto Service is a family-run auto repair and towing center located on Union Street in Mora. A certified NAPA Auto Care Center, the shop specializes in diagnostic and repair work for domestic and European vehicles including diesel engines. Dave and Tonya Peterson opened Mora Auto Service on March 5, 2012. “Tonya and I decided to make a job for ourselves,” Dave recalled. “A friend of ours was a brand-new rookie mechanic, who helped with the business for the first several months. We bought him out, and he moved on to a dealership. He helped the business get started, and we helped him get a start too.” “When we first started, it was just Dave and me,” Tonya said. “I’d go out and help him, and picked up a wrench. I learned to do oil changes, disc brakes, and hub assemblies.” “Tonya handles the business end, and deals more and more with the customers,” Dave added. “But she can step in and do quite a bit of my job.” Dave started his automotive training at Dunwoody Institute. “Through the years I saw Tonya, my mom, a classmate, and other people get taken advantage of with auto repairs. This gave me the standards I have today. Everyone deserves to be educated about what’s being done with their vehicle. We complete an inspection and an estimate first, then we don’t start any work until the customer approves it. If you don’t understand what’s going on, you shouldn’t be expected to pay for it.” Dave and Tonya’s family values are part of their business approach. “We’re building the business on Christian morals and integrity,” Dave explained. “We make sure things are right between us and the customers. And we’re kid-friendly. In the spring I’m hoping to put in a playground: a place for kids to play, and for parents to wait while their car is being repaired.” “We do our work well. We have one of the area’s lowest rates of customers coming back to have work redone. I pride myself on that. We know our work is done right.”

Scholarship Recipients

John Hillman Memorial Scholarship: Beatta Hillman, Paige Bixby.

Thanks to everyone who supported Mora Dollars for Scholars!

Robert Lincoln Memorial Scholarship (4-year renewable): Brooke Elvehjem, Carey Venhuizen (DFS Board Member).

Congratulations to the Mora High School Graduating Class of 2015! The Mora Dollars for Scholars’ Awards Night was held on May 13, 2015. This was a very exciting year for Dollars for Scholars because we were able to increase our giving significantly. Through the donor’s generous support, 38 seniors received Mora Dollars for Scholars scholarships this year - a 41 percent increase from last year. Among these scholarships, five are 4-year renewable. In addition to the increase in the number of scholarships awarded, we were also able to increase the amount of each scholarship to $1,400. We graciously thank new scholarships this year which include: Robert Lincoln Memorial, Jack Gorham Memorial, Bob Gorham Memorial, Ann Sande Thoreson Memorial, Merlin Johnson Memorial, Bernard Nordenstrom Memorial, and the Rich and Kris Schultz Scholarship. In addition, Mora Dollars for Scholars added an additional 4-year renewable scholarship and the Fred and Jean Ahlgren Memorial added two additional scholarships. Mora Dollars for Scholars scholarships have been awarded to Mora High School seniors since the committee was founded in 1988. In the past 27 years, Mora Dollars for Scholars has awarded 880 scholarships totaling $978,250. The support and generosity of Mora citizens, alumni and businesses have allowed Mora Dollars for Scholars to give scholarships to help fund Mora high school students with the cost of higher education. Students who receive these scholarships are selected based on their grade point average, ACT test results and community and school involvements. Thank you for your generous donations and continued support! Contributions may be made at any time and are tax-deductible. Donations may be mailed to Mora Dollars for Scholars, Box 422, Mora, MN 55051 or completed online at: www.mora.dollarsforscholars.org

Tall to Small Dog Grooming

Happiness is a Furry, Clean Friend Bobbie Breheim, 14 years experience

W

ith over 14 years of experience, Bobbie Breheim of Tall to Small Dog Grooming brings a level of passion and experience to her work that is difficult to match in the Mora community. She started grooming animals at a young age, was trained as an apprentice at PetSmart in St. Paul shortly after high school and has been grooming dogs ever since.

With over five years serving the Mora community, Bobbie has established her business through affordable pricing and a flexible schedule; being open six days a week and providing her service on nights and weekends. Clients find convenience and comfort in the fact that Tall to Small Dog Grooming is located in the same building as East Central Veterinarians; especially when servicing older dogs. Bobbie’s greatest asset however is her 14 years of experience. She says, “If you’re gonna pick a dog groomer, make sure they have experience with a lot of dogs.” Looking to the fall, Tall to Small Dog Grooming will begin offering more expansive packages which include services like dental hygiene, nail painting and even decorations like ribbons and bows in addition to their normal services. Next time you’re taking your dog in for a regular checkup at the vet, don’t forget to make a grooming appointment with Tall to Small Dog Grooming.
