With the coming 2020 Elections our Kanabec Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) will have four Districts up for election this year. Up for election this year are Districts 1, 2, 3 & 5. The positions are non-partisan. Districts 2 & 3 are known to have no incumbent running. Oversight of our SWCD activities comes from an elected board of 5 supervisors. We are a small organization apart from the county with three staff. Please see the attached map showing the district boundaries. Supervisors must live in the district they represent. The terms of office are 4-years except for District 2, as a 2-year term. Join our Board of Supervisors and have a Voice in the Conservation Legacy of Kanabec County. We have been in operation since 1951. If interested in filing, feel free to call our office (320) 674-3015 for more details or log-in to one of our monthly meetings. Don’t miss the filing period from May 19 – June 2, 2020. To file as a candidate, contact the Auditor’s Office at the Kanabec Co. Courthouse at 679-6430. There is a small filing fee.

BRAHAM PIE DAY CANCELED The Pie Day Committee met May 18 and after much discussion has decided that Braham Pie Day will be canceled for 2020. We weighed and measured all thoughts and possibilities of our current situation with COVID-19 and all the CDC recommended requirements and feel that there is no way to slice it. The safety and health of our community, volunteers, vendors, guests, public safety officers and business owners have to come first. We pray that everyone remains healthy and can join us again. We will be back next year so mark your calendar for Friday Aug. 6, 2021.

FARMER’S MARKET PROCEEDS WITH TWEAKS People shopped at the Mora Area Farmer’s Market for homemade items, baked goods, jams, jellies, rhubarb, fresh eggs and more. Sellers said it has been busy and some broke selling records on Mother’s Day weekend. The Mora Farmers Market is open every Saturday throughout the summer from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Mora United Methodist Church parking lot. In an attempt to reduce the spread of COVID-19, customers are asked not to handle products; wearing masks is encouraged. Vendors have disinfectants and two handwashing stations are set up on site.

KICK CANCER TO THE CURB Because of the coronavirus and the impact it has had on all the businesses in our county, we have decided to cancel our annual fundraiser at the Back to the Tower Days in Ogilvie. We did not feel it is fair to all of you who have supported us in the past to be asked to do so this year, and hopefully when this is over, to do so again in the future. We have been blessed with private donations, Lions donations, Hardees, local churches, Knights of Columbus and others so we will be able to help cancer patients through the coming year. Thank you for all the support you have given to us and we will see you all when crisis is all over, hopefully soon. So until next year our prayer for you and your family is stay healthy and safe. If you have any questions call Rita at 320-679-2047 or Sharon at 670-4128.

LIBRARY CLEANS UP, WITH HELP FROM GIRL SCOUTS Back in a simpler time before pandemics and social distancing, Girl Scout Troop 57928 donated a new vacuum to the Pine City Public Library Community Room using proceeds from their Fall Product and Girl Scout Cookie sales. Pictured left to right are Tatum, Peyton, Madilyn, Madelyn, Riley and Catherine. USPS OFFERS GUIDANCE ON HOLD MAIL SERVICE The U.S. Postal Service is providing updated information on Hold Mail to help customers temporarily displaced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hold Mail service is designed for customers who plan on being away from their home or business for up to 30 days. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Postal Service suspended the 30-day time frame and extended all Hold Mail requests beyond 30 days. That extension ends on May 30, 2020. Customers whose mail has been on hold beyond 30 days as of May 30 will have until June 14 to make arrangements to have their mail held longer if needed. On June 15, 2020, the Postal Service will revert back to its normal policy that allows for customers to have their mail held for 30 days. Customers with questions regarding Hold Mail requests can contact the Postal Service at 1-800-ASKUSPS (275-8777). For the latest information on Postal Service service updates, please check about.usps.com/news/ service-alerts/. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. POOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER SUBMITTED - CITY OF MORA Mora’s city pool won’t open this season for either recreation or swimming lessons due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Mora City Council met to determine the feasibility of the Mora Aquatic Center swim season on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the continued spread of COVID-19, council members voted to close the MAC for the 2020 swim season. The council’s reluctant, but unanimous, decision was driven by operational obstacles, guidance obtained from the office of the Governor, data from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To comply with proper social distancing and additional safety recommendations the operation of the MAC becomes extremely difficult and prohibits the City of Mora from ensuring the safety of our guests. City officials said planned improvements to the MAC will proceed as scheduled, and refunds will be made to those who purchased swim lessons for the 2020 season. The City of Mora looks forward to welcoming
staff and patrons back to the MAC in summer 2021. For more information about the 2020 MAC swim season contact Activities and Recreation Coordinator Jeff Krie at j.krie@cityofmora.com. DPV-DVS EXAM STATIONS REOPEN WITH NEW COVID 19 GUIDELINES Minnesotans will once again be able to access the majority of driver and vehicle services starting May 19, but office visits will look different with changes made to protect the health and safety of customers and staff in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minnesotans who need to renew or apply for a driver’s license or ID card should pre-apply online at drive.mn.gov and visit their local deputy registrar or driver’s license agent office to complete their application in person. DPS-DVS exam stations will not be accepting license applications unless they are associated with a knowledge or skills test to help examiners focus on testing. A complete list of deputy registrar and driver’s license agent offices is on the DVS office locations page. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline to Oct. 1, 2021. The deadline was originally set for Oct. 1, 2020, but is delayed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Minnesotans should not visit their local office to renew early in order to apply for a REAL ID at this time Minnesotans with canceled road tests can reschedule online at drive.mn.gov at any of the open exam stations by selecting Schedule or Reschedule an Exam. New class D road test appointments are not available to the public at this time. DPS-DVS will open up class D road test appointments to the public for scheduling as soon as canceled appointments are rescheduled. Face masks are required for persons taking a class D road test. For more information on licensing, title and registration, go to https://dps.mn.gov.
