JUNE 27 BIRDING AUTHOR AT KATHIO STATE PARK Mille Lacs State Park will host a special birding program at 7 p.m. featuring author and bird expert Bob Janssen. Copies of his book “Birds of Minnesota State Parks” will be available for sale. There will also be a bird hike for families from 2 - 3 p.m. beginning at the interpretive center with a lesson on using binoculars (the park will supply them). Both programs are free of charge and no registration is required. A vehicle permit is required to enter the park and can be purchased at the park office.

JUNE 27 & 28 MORA OPEN REPEATER AMATEUR RADIO FIELD DAY The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is sponsoring an Amateur Radio Field Day and the Mora Open Repeater Association will be participating at the Kanabec County Fairgrounds. The setup crew will be on site by 9 a.m. Saturday. Operations will begin promptly at 1 p.m. CST and continue through the overnight hours into Sunday morning. JUNE 27 & 28 MILLE LACS HISTORY FESTIVAL AND RENDEZVOUS The 21st annual festival and rendezvous will take place six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47 and one mile west on Red Road. Public hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is a donation with those 10 and under admitted free. There will be a flag raising and 21-gun salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. There will be a 1840s rendezvou camp, black powder shooting, folk arts, demonstrations, food and drink.

JUNE 28 - INTERPRETIVE PADDE ON THE ST. CROIX Wild River State Park will offer a leisurely nine-mile paddle with a park naturalist beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the main park boat landing. Eight canoes will be available for the first registrants or bring your own. There will be a lunch stop at a sandbar, bring a sack lunch. JUNE 26 & 27 - ARROWHEADS AND STONE TOOLS Co-sponsored by the Minnesota Flint Knappers Guild, this annual two day event at the North West Company Fur Post, Pine City, showcases the craft of making spear points and arrowheads from rock. By shaping stone into sharp tools and projectiles, ancient people were able to hunt animals as big as mastodons. Watch as modern flint knappers from around the country demonstrate their skills on Friday, noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 26 and 27.
