PIONEER’S MOST PERUSED Last week’s most read stories online
Below are last week’s most read stories on the Pine City Pioneer website at: www.pinecitymn.com 1. ‘The root cellar can save us’: On September 1, 1894 Hinckley and the surrounding areas were engulfed by a firestorm we now know as the Great Hinckley Fire. Although there were many tragic stories that day there were a few amazing stories of survival. 2. Thirty years later, we remember Pine County Deputy Mike Morrow: It was 30 years ago, on Aug. 4, 1991, that Deputy Mike Morrow of the Pine County Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty as he conducted a traffic stop. We can never forget a sacrifice like that. And we never should. It was just five years ago that a lot of us were out at the Snake River boat landing to dedicate the two miles of Highway 61 between the Snake River and Eveready Road as the Mike Morrow Memorial Highway. 3.) Shoreland ordinance stirs debate with area businesses: Two Sand Lake business representatives expressed concern that a proposed shoreland ordinance is too restrictive and could have a negative impact on shoreland property owners future expansion projects, including businesses. KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES Last week’s most read stories
Below are last week’s most read stories on the Kanabec County Times website, www.MoraMinn.com. 1. Man charged with abuse of toddler: Zachary Taylor Peterson, 24, of Brook Park, was charged with one felony count of first degree assault and one felony count of third degree assault of a victim under age four after a child in his care needed to be airlifted to Children’s hospital for emergency medical attention. The incident occurred in mid-July. 2. Man charged with criminal sexual conduct gave gifts, tracked phone of teen girl: Ryan James Martens, 38, of Mora was charged with one felony count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, while having a current or recent position of authority over the victim. 3. Public Health pushes mask requirements; schools say not just yet: Kanabec County Community Health Director Kathi Burski has been leading the county through the COVID-19 pandemic since it reached Minnesota 18 months ago — and she is concerned about where it is headed.
